Goldie Woodson Brown

Mrs Paul Jones Sr.
Mrs Paul Jones Sr., 83, 303 38th St. Place, died Monday in Sunrise Manor after a long illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Mason of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Logan Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Jones, the former Goldie Woodson Brown, was born Nov. 30, 1898, at Smithland, Iowa. She graduated from Smithland High School and attended Morningside College. She taught in rural schools for two years. She married Paul Jones April 28, 1919 and had lived in Sioux City since 1920. Mrs. Jones was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church, a member and past officer of Chapter GZ PEO and past president of the Delphian Literary  Society. She was involved in leadership of the Girl Scouts for several years. During World  War II she was active in the Gray Ladies of the American Red Cross. A memorial has been established in her name with the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Paul D. Jr. and Feldman F., both of Sioux City; a daughter, Fanchon Jones Bosma of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Verna Phelps of Montrose, Colo. and Masel Martin of Cottage Grove, Ore.; two brothers, George Brown of Holstein, Iowa and Ben Brown of Cochise, Ariz. ; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

 


Paul Beeson

WASHTA, Iowa - Paul "Darrell" Beeson, 83, of Washta died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, Iowa, following a brief illness.  Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Quimby, Iowa, with Monsignor Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in Anthon Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee.  Mr. Beeson was born May 3, 1917, in Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mabel (Coon) Beeson. He attended school in Washta and graduated from Washta High School in 1934.  He married Olive Dessel on June 4, 1938, in Cherokee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands and Saipan in the South Pacific. Following his discharge, he was employed at the lumberyards in Washta, Marcus and Eagle Grove, Iowa. He went into the Standard Oil business in 1939, retiring in 1975. He also drove school bus for Willow Community Schools, retiring in 1982.  He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He served on the Washta Fire Department and was a member of Washta Town Council for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and cars.  Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Meyers and her fiancee, Jerome Hentz of Fort Worth and Mary and her husband, William Larson of Cherokee; six grandchildren, Larry and Paul Meyers, Sheryl Kolb, Stacey Prokop, Teresa Friedrichson and Heather Larson; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beulah Cook of St. Paul, Neb.  He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, and a brother in infancy

 


 

Mrs. Nora Byers (Sioux City Journal, 13 Nov 1936, 11) Mrs. Nora Byers, 40, 511 West Fifth street, died Thursday afternoon in a Sioux City hospital following a brief sickness. Mrs. Byers was born August 20, 1896 in Canton, Ill., and had been a resident of Sioux City for 14 years. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic church. Surviving are her widower, Walter R. Byers; three daughters, Mrs. L. H. Chase, Mrs. V. J. Thompson, and Miss Joanna Byers, all of Sioux City; three sons, L. C., W. H. and Jesse Byers, all of Sioux City; her mother, Mrs. Laura Kinder; two brothers, Charles and Foster Kinder, and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Lomax, all of whom live in Missouri. The body is at Perasso Bros. Funeral home pending the completion of funeral arrangements.


OBITUARY, Correctionville News, September 1915: Nina Blake was born November 9, 1828, in Virginia and died at her home in Correctionville September 1, 1915, at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 20 days. In 1856 she was united in marriage to James Coon, who preceded her to the grave January 21, 1897. To them were born nine children, two sons and seven daughters. They are Reese and George Coon, Mrs. Thomas Clark, Mrs. John Kenyon, Mrs. Alice Wright, Mrs. Sarah Patterson, all of Correctionville; Ms. John Clark of Sturgis, Canada, Mrs. Mary Garrett of Sioux City, and Mrs. Emma Conklin who preceded her mother to the great beyond. When a young woman she joined the United Brethren church. She was a kind and loving mother and friend, and besides her children, leaves to mourn her loss a large host of relatives and friends. The funeral was held Friday, September 3rd, services being held on the lawn at the home of the departed. The remains were laid to rest in the Correctionville Cemetery, the services being in charge of Rev. J.A. Campbell, pastor of the United Evangelical Church.
