The previous locaton of the Elk Grove Cemetery was in Section 26, also in Brookfied Township.
The Elk Grove Synod Congregation was organized in 1876. Its first church was built in 1887 on the Southeast Quarter of Section 25, north of the present cemetery. The church was destroyed by lightning in 1911.
The first burial was Melvin Savre in 1879, and there are still occasional burials in this cemetery.
These cemetery records have been compiled by walking the cemetery, copying gravestone inscriptions and doing rubbings, checking church records to 1917, (1878-1892 at First Luthera Church in Northwood, and 1892-1917 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett), and checking the cemetery map and WPA records.
