Austin
Melvin Goodson, 84, of Parma, passed away Friday, August 6,
1993, at Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario, Oregon, of natural
causes.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday,
August 11, at Lower Boise Cemetery, east of Parma. Terry
Downs will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of
Lienkamper Chapel of Nyssa, Oregon.
Austin was born April 1, 1909, at Gala., Virginia, a son
of Samuel and Lillian Goodson. At the age of 2, he and his
family moved to the Parma area where he resided until his
death. He attended Ten Davis Grade School and graduated from
Parma High School in 1928.
He married Annie Holmes in Payette, Idaho, on November 13,
1937. They farmed in the Notus-Parma area until his
retirement, but he always continued his interest in farming.
After retirement they enjoyed many trips throughout the
United States and the world.
Austin was a member of Parma Masonic Lodge #49 and a 32
Mason in the Scottish Rite. He was an active Shriner involved
in the El Korah Temple, Caldwell Motor Patrol, Parma
Caravaners, and Snake River Shrine Club. His other interests
included fishing, hunting, and watching his grandchildren
participate in athletic and school events. For being loyal
fan, the Parma Athletic presented Austin with a plaque and
lifetime activity pass.
Survivors include his wife of 55 Years, Annie Goodson of
Parma; his daughters and sons-in-law, Estelle and Hubert
Iverson of Notus, Nancy and Ed Johnson of Parma; and son and
daughter-in-law, Melvin and Wanda Goodson of Parma. He had
nine grandchildren; Tina and (Terry) Downs, Shawn Smith, Jeff
(and Margaret) Johnson, Chanel Johnson, Jenifer Johnson, Kim
(and Tracy) Atkinson, Harley Wilson, Jan Heinbokel, Michael
Goodson, and Stephan Goodson. His great-grandchildren are:
Tiffany and Tamara Downs, Sam Johnson, and Matt Atkinson.
Also surviving are a sister, Hazel Winans of Buhl, two
brothers; Leonard Goodson of Cove, Oregon, and Edward Goodson
of Parma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Boring; two
brothers, Walter and Hershel Goodson; his first wife Iola, a
daughter, Vivian; and his mother and father.
