"Kay” Heck, 81, of Greenleaf, went home to be with her Savior
on Sunday, May 25, 1997. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m.
on Friday, May 30, at Greenleaf Cemetery, under the direction
of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. A Memorial service will
follow at 2 p.m. at the Greenleaf Friends Church, with Rev.
Steven Fine officiating.
Kay was born in Clarenden, VA, on July 17, 1915, to Hayden
W. and Edna Blanche Bankert Dull. In 1920 she moved with her
family to Perrysville, PA, where her father worked as an
electrician. In 1926 the family moved to the country where
she spent her childhood. There, her father worked for the
Sisters of Charity, a Catholic convent.
Mrs. Heck graduated from Perry High School in 1934 and
worked as a nanny, waitress, and a secretary. She married
Darrel Ward Dawson, an army officer, in 1945, and moved to
several different states with her husband and three children
before locating in Mtn. View, CA, in 1957. She retired form
Coop Drug and Variety Store in Palo Alto, CA, in 1979 after 20
years of service as a retail clerk. Kay was married to
Raymond D. Heck from 1967 to 1977, then moved to Greenleaf,
ID, with her granddaughter in 1980.
Kay enjoyed her retirement years and donated much of her
time and talents, her paintings and beautiful quilts were made
and donated to the annual Greenleaf Friends Academy auction.
She also volunteered her time to help Idaho Special Olympians
She enjoyed Bible studies, trips with other seniors, and
bowling with her friends. At 81 she still enjoyed mowing her
own lawn and growing beautiful flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel; her
parents; 2 brothers, Hayden and David Dull; one daughter,
Darleen K. Gemoya-Baty, and one grandson, David Brown.
Kay is survived by 4 sisters, Betty White of Mendham, NJ,
Theresa Galliardi of Bridgewater, NJ, Ellen Casey-Crane of
Magalia, CA, and Mary Lawler of San Francisco, CA; a son,
Randall J. Dawson of Nampa ID; a daughter and son-in-law,
Dianna and Gary Brown of Greenleaf; eight grandchildren; 6
great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Her family and friends will miss her very much.
