Elton Gene
Winslow, 83, of Nampa, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at home
of natural causes. A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to
8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Dakan Funeral
Chapel, Caldwell. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Dakan Funeral Chapel,
Caldwell, with Pastor Bruce Biggs, Mercy Hospice Chaplain,
officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenleaf Cemetery. A
pot luck reception will follow the services at the C.V.
Peckham Community Center, located adjacent to the chapel.

Elton was born October 29, 1925 at North Branch, Kansas, to
Verlin Winslow and Carrie Aubushon Winslow, and was raised and
educated in Kansas. He moved to Idaho with his family in 1942,
settling in the Greenleaf area. Elton graduated from Greenleaf
Friends Academy with the Class of 1943. He married Lavern
Wright July 3, 1944 at Greenleaf. In November of 1944 duty
called and he enlisted in the United States Army. He served
his country until his honorable discharge as a Private First
Class in 1946. He returned to Greenleaf where he and Lavern
began to farm, later moving to Meridian to farm and operate a
dairy, then settling in Caldwell where they continued to farm
and operate a dairy for several years. He later retired due to
poor health. In 2000 he and Lavern moved to Nampa where they
have since resided.
Elton enjoyed
camping, R.V. ing, horseback riding, and was a member of the
Leather Slappers.
Elton is
survived by his wife, Lavern Winslow, of Nampa; a daughter,
Michelle (Patrick) Stephens, of Pasco, WA; 2 grandchildren,
Kelly (Shannon) Winslow, of Lowman, and Crickett (Marc)
Maddox, of Nampa; 9 great-grandchildren, Emily Burton, Cole
and Megan Winslow, and Jozie, Taylor, Zach, Elicia, Briana,
and Kayla Maddox, all of Nampa; and one brother, Chub (Willie)
Winslow of Couer d’Alene.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Gene Winslow;
and 2 brothers, Jack and Gary Winslow.
