"Johnie" Halliday was born on Feb. 25, 1902, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Archie and Effie Skaith Johnson.  She moved with her family as a young girl to the Sunnyslope area where she was reared and educated.  She attended the College of Idaho for two years; then trained at Mercy Hospital where she received a degree in nursing.  She then worked in Portland, Ore., Omaha, Neb., and also at Mercy Medical Center over the next 40 years.
She served as the President of the Idaho Nurses' Assoc. for one year as well as President of the Mercy Alumni Assoc. for five years.  She also served as a volunteer nurse with the American Red Cross for 25 years and gave eight years to Pet Haven.  After her retirement she helped with library duty, manned the mini store and worked with the Art and Crafts group at the Sunny Ridge Retirement Center.
It was at Mercy Medical that she met her husband, Carl, and they were married in 1932.  He owned and operated the Halliday Furniture Store.  He died in 1962.  She had done quite a bit of traveling, going to Hawaii, Guatemala, Istanbul, Mexico and the Aegean Sea.  She devoted many hours serving others and will be missed by her many friends at the Sunny Ridge Retirement Center and around the community.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ray and Earl Johnson.
