Melville Kelley

    Graveside services for Melville D. "Mel" Kelley, 63, of Nampa, who died Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Caldwell hospital of natural causes, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.  The Rev. Cecil Thompson of Nampa will officiate under the direction of the Dakan Funeral Chapel of Caldwell.
    Mr. Kelley was born Jan. 26, 1923, at Jameson, Ore., to Reuben and Hester Kelley.  He was raised in the Vale area and graduated from Ontario High School.  He moved to Prairie City, Ore., where he married Clarice Bates on Feb. 14, 1945.  They ranched at Prairie City for 25 years.  He also broke horses for the U.S. Army Calvary Remounts and dealt in saddle horses.  In the 1950s, he began contracting rodeo stock and later selling his stock contracting business to Christensen Rodeo Stock Contractors in 1958.  They moved to Nampa in 1966 where they lived until moving to Burns, Ore. in 1975.  They returned to Nampa in 1980, where they have since resided.
    He is survived by his wife of Nampa: four daughters, Melda Roberts of Caldwell, Patty Stover of Emmett, Tammy Mc D Roe of Ola, Shirley Pettyjohn of Burns, Ore.; two sons, Dennis of Nampa and Jim of Smith Valley, Nev.; a sister, Clara Moore of Klamath Falls, Ore., and 14 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marguerite Currey.
    Memorials may be made to the Idaho Heart Association in care of the Dakan Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 1386, Caldwell, 83606.
