Melba Tipton Harris, 75, of
Melba, Idaho passed away May 1, 1992, of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am. on May 5, 1992, at
the Melba 2nd Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints. Bishop Mark Hoagland will conduct the services.
Burial will follow at the Melba Cemetery.
Melba was born August 8, 1916, at Moore, Idaho to William
M. and Erma Tipton. When she was about two years old Melba
moved with her family to Caldwell, Idaho, and then later moved
to the Lakeview community where she grew up. She attended
Caldwell High School, graduating with the class of 1935 Later
she attended the College of Idaho for two years.
While attending Caldwell High School she met George H.
Harris, a courtship began, and they were married at Boise on
August 9, 1938. To this union four children were born; Thomas
W. Harris, of Boise, Robert D. Harris, of Melba, Richard L.
Harris of Caldwell, and Connie Elizabeth Harris Underhill of
Anchorage, Alaska. Melba was a homemaker until all of her
children were in school. She then worked part time as a cook
in the Melba School District. George passed away in 1964.
She returned to college and became librarian for the Melba
School District where she worked until 1975, when she had to
take a medical retirement.
She was very active in the L.D.S. church, serving in all
of the organizations. She served in various positions in the
Primary for 31 years. She enjoyed attending the temple.
She is survived by her four children, nineteen
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who were her first
love and four sisters, Bessie Larson, Erma Johnstone, Lula
Ward and Blanche Howells. She was preceded in death by her
husband, George Harris.
Viewing may take place from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, May 4,
1992, at Alsip Funeral Chapel, 404 loth Ave., S., Nampa, Idaho
or in the Relief Society Room at the Melba Ward Chapel prior
to the services.
Memorials may be made to the Melba Senior Citizens Center
or a favorite charity, or flowers may be sent. |
