Melvin Hawkins

    NAMPA – Graveside funeral services for Melvin Hawkins, 72, 520 Fern St., who died Sunday at a Caldwell hospital following a brief illness, will be conducted at 4p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
    The Rev. Jim Stewart, pastor of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.  The cortege will leave the Alsip Funeral Chapel at 3:45 p.m.
    Mr. Hawkins was born Oct. 24, 1902 at Wheaton, Minn., and moved to Cascade, Idaho when he was 8 years of age.  He resided there until 1956 when he went into construction work and traveled in New Mexico and Arizona.  He married Patricia Lewis at Cascade Sept. 3, 1950.  They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1964, then in 1966 moved to Nampa where they have since resided.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Patricia Hawkins, Nampa; two daughters, Joan Knapp, Anchorage, Alaska, and Ruth Ann Grohnke, Hayward, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Hawkins, Middleton; seven grandsons, Alfred Knapp Jr., Nampa, Buster, Buddy, Bimbo and Bobby Knapp, all of Anchorage, Alaska, and Mike and Mark Grohnke, both of Wayward, Calif.; a granddaughter, the former Peggy Knapp, Boise; great-granddaughter, Shannon Knapp, Nampa; and. a foster son, Robert, of Nampa.
