Regina Bastida, 92, of
Nampa, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 1991, at her home. Vigil
services will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at
Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St.
Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa. The Rev. Father Juan Carranco,
S.M., will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount
Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
Mrs. Bastida was born Sept. 7, 1898, at Ondarroa, Viscaya,
Espana, a daughter of Santiago and Thomasa Badiola Echevarria.
She was raised and attended schools there. She came to the
United States in 1920, settling in Boise. She married Juan
Bastida Jan. 29, 1921, in Boise where they made their home.
They were engaged in the Sheep business and she frequently
cooked in sheep camps for several years. They moved to Nampa
in 1935 and operated a Basque boarding house, the Modern
Hotel. They retired in 1947 and made a trip back to Spain to
visit and were there for a few months. They returned to Nampa
where she has since resided. Mr. Bastida died June 30, 1959.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and of La
Organization Independente Sociale.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law,
Flora Jayo of Boise, Alice and Bob Tullis of Boise, and
Blanche and Max Swindell of Nampa; a brother, Doroteo
Echevarria of Ondarroa, Spain; 14 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a
granddaughter, three sisters and two brothers.
