Ruth P. Earnest Hooley

Ruth P. Earnest Hooley, 79, of Nampa, died Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at her home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the First Mennonite Church, 903 6th St. N., Nampa.  Robert Garber of the First Mennonite Church will officiate.  Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
Ruth was born June 21, 1917, to Joseph and Alice Swanzendruber Brenneman, at Kalona, Iowa, where she was reared and educated.  She married Norman E. Earnest on Dec. 28, 1938, at Kalona.  They moved to Casselton, N.D., in 1947, then moved to Nampa, Idaho, in the fall of 1948, where they established the family farm north of town.
Ruth was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Nampa, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and involved in Women's Ministries as an enthusiastic quilter for many years.  She volunteered at Gifts Internationale for a number of years.
She lost her beloved husband, Norman, on May 6, 1973.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a wonderful homemaker.  Her life was filled with love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She thoroughly enjoyed them, and was very thankful and felt blessed to have all her children live near her.
On June 7, 1987, she married Harold Hooley.  They traveled extensively the first year of their marriage, which she enjoyed thoroughly.
Ruth carried out her strong faith in God through prayer.  Every morning she would pray for her entire family each by name, then for other relatives and friends.  Her prayers had a great influence on many people and will be greatly missed.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Harold Hooley of Nampa; four sons and their wives, Philip and Alice Earnest, Leland and Martha Earnest, Everett and Lois Earnest of Nampa, and Galen and Marlene Earnest of Caldwell; two daughters and their husbands, Alice and Larry Hostetler of Nampa, and Vonnie and Bob Oxnam of Ontario, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, David, Scott and Kristy Earnest, Jana Oesch, Kim and Michelle Borcher, Kirk, Tami and Jerry Earnest, Marla Skogsberg, Jill and Darcie Oxnam, Chris, Nick and Jacob Earnest, and Heather and Joe Earnest; six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Maradene Hooley Wallace and Alice Hooley Earnest; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 21 great-stepgrandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; one brother; three sisters; and one stepdaughter, JoAnn Hamilton.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Nampa Mennonite Church Building Fund, 903 6th St. N., Nampa 83687; or flowers may be sent.
Friends may call today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
