An Idaho native, Carl was born March 5, 1912, at Boise.  After attending Maple Grove School and graduating from Boise High School, he earned a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry from the University of Idaho in 1933 and a master's degree from Iowa State University.  He served as an officer in the Army during World War II with the chemical warfare division.  During this time, our father met his wife, Mary Foster of Chicago, where they were married on Dec. 31, 1943.  They made their home in Nampa where Dad first established Valley Ice Cream Co.  He also worked for the Department of Employment, retiring from there in 1977.  He raised his family on his dairy farm east of Nampa.
Carl was loved and admired by his wife and children and was the center of this large, close family.
He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and of the Joseph H. Murray Post No. 18. American Legion, Nampa.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Nampa; their 12 children and their families, Ken and Madeline of Nampa, Jim and Pat of Arizona, Melissa and Mike McNamara of San Francisco, Bill and Theresa of Nampa, Trina and Jim Goslin of Arizona, Karen and Randy Weissman of San Leandro, Calif., Mark and Janet of Lake Tahoe, Kristy and Roger Baumchen of North Bend, Wash., Trisa of Lake Tahoe, Janel of Bear Valley, Calif., Joel of Nampa and Erin of St. Thomas, V.I.; two brothers, Fordyce and Richard; and 12 grandchildren.
