Funeral services
for John B. Long, 73, of Nampa, who died Wednesday, April
11, 1990, at a Boise hospital, will be conducted at l p.m.
Saturday, April 14, at the Nampa Canyon Building, Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 143 C. Canyon, with shop
Max Everton of the Nampa 4 Ward, LDS Church, officiating.
Interment will
follow in the Hillcrest Memorial
Gardens, Caldwell. Services
are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Long was born
April 22, 1916, at Cove,
Utah.
He was reared and
educated at Franklin, Idaho,
where he graduated from high school.
He later moved to
Portland, Ore, where he began working for Montgomery
Ward store. He
served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division as a
paratrooper during World War II.
Following his
honorable discharge he returned to
Portland
where he continued working for Montgomery Ward and owned and
operated Johnny's Garden Miniature Golf Course.
In March 1967 he
moved to Nampa
to continue to work for Montgomery Ward.
He married Valeta H.
Hobb s May 27, 1967, in Nampa and their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple
in 1970. Together
they operated the Montgomery Ward Catalog stores in
Nampa and Caldwell until 1975.
John was a very
active member of the Nampa 4th Ward,
LDS
Church where he served as
a high priest. He
was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and a past exalted
ruler and member of the Nampa Elks Lodge No. 1389.
John is survived
by his wife, Valeta H. Long, Nampa; a son, John B. Long Jr.,
Portland, Ore.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte
Nornes, Portland, and Colene and Earl Kirk, Silverton, Ore.;
two stepsons and their wives, Kayle and Marlene Hobbs and
George Nicholas and Janet Hobbs, all of Nampa; three
stepdaughters and their husbands, Charlene and Gary Johnson,
Boise, Clans Lee and Leon McElroy, Dickson, Calif., and
Tamra and Ray Giles, Medford, Ore.; three sisters, Joyce
Searle and Ella Folson, both of Ogden, Utah, and Elda
Beckstead, Preston, Idaho; 31 grandchildren; and 31
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two
sisters.
Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today from 6 to
9 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Saturday from 8
to 11 a.m.
The family will .greet friends at the Alsip Funeral Chapel
today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Saturday from noon
to 12:45 p.m.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's
Disease, Treasure Valley Affiliate, 4620 Overland Road,
Suite #211, Boise 83705; or flowers may be sent.
