Services for Richard Dean McFarland, 60, of Nampa, who died
Sunday, April 27, at his home, will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel of Nampa. The Rev. Peter
Michaelson of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Meridian, will
officiate and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial
Gardens, Caldwell.
Mr. McFarland was born June 18, 1925, at Hutchinson, Kan.,
to Earl B. and Lena Tennant McFarland. He was reared and
educated in Kansas and later in Nampa. He served in the U.S.
Navy during World War II and following his discharge
returned to Nampa.
He married Verla F. McAlister on Oct. 10, 1946, at Klamath
Falls, Ore., and they made their home in Nampa. He was a car
dealer for more than 30 years and operated Dick's Trading
Post on 11th Avenue most of that time. He retired due to
failing health in 1982.
He is survived by his wife of Nampa; two sons, Richard Dean
McFarland Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., Steve McFarland of
Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter Cheryl Shinn of Meridian; three
brothers, Leonard McFarland and Harold McFarland both of
Nampa, and Albert McFarland of Boise; four sisters, Virginia
Stoker of Hayward, Calif., Myrtle Mae Gookins of Halstead,
Kan., Helen Peters of Walnut Creek, Calif. and Dorothy
Grossaint of Boise; a grandson, Andy Shinn of Meridian; two
granddaughters, BreAnn McFarland of Atlanta, Ga., Leslie
Shinn of Meridian; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
