Samuel McConnell

    Samuel Lafayette McConnell, 64 of Caldwell, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1992 at home of natural causes.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 1992 at the United Methodist Church, Caldwell.  Pastor Ernestine Young of Nampa will officiate.  Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.  Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
    Sam was born October 3, 1928 at Huntsville, Arkansas, the son of Samuel W. and Ila Johnson McConnell.  He came to Dixie at the age of eight and was educated in Notus.  He married Wanda June Blanc, February 24, 1947 in Elko, Nevada, and they made their home in Caldwell.  Sam was employed by Idaho Meat Packers for 20 years, and at the age of 39 began his career at the Canyon County Assessor's Office.  He was Deputy Assessor for 12 years and served as the elected Canyon County assessor for 12 years until retiring from public office in January of 1991.  Sam served as President of the Idaho Association of County Assessors from 1982 to 1983.  He considered working with and helping senior citizens one of his greatest accomplishments.  He was recognized for his service by Governor Cecil Andrus.
    Sam and Wanda operated a small business known throughout the area as Sam and Wanda's Vacuum Sales and Service.  Their business has served the valley for over 35 years.
    Sam had served as an elder in the Church of The Covenants for 38 years where he held numerous offices.  He loved the Lord dearly and and left a great Christian heritage.  He was also a member of the Caldwell Kiwanis Club.
    Sam is survived by his wife, Wanda of Caldwell, five children and their spouses, Howard and Linda McConnell of Middleton, Harold and Judy McConnell of Boise, Samuel Terry McConnell of Caldwell, Sherrie and Jerry Gibson of Boise and Dan and Corrine McConnell of Nampa; a sister, Gladys E. Caple of Caldwell; twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, a sister and a niece.
    Sam was a loving husband and father. He was greatly loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
    His family suggests that memorials be made to the Gideon Memorial Bibles, Box 1002, Caldwell, Idaho 83696-1002.
    Friends may call at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday.
