Walter Nichols
Walter E. Nichols, 94, of Nam-pa, went to be with his Lord
on Saturday, September, 26, 1992, at a Nampa hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday,
September 29, 1992 at the Alsip Funeral Chapel. Dr.
Bruce Petersen, pastor of the College Church of the Nazarene
will officiate, assisted by Dr. John Riley, President
Emeritus of NNC. Private family interment will follow
in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Walter E. Nichols was born on. February 2, 1898 at Kinzua,
Pennsylvania to Willis and Cora Nichols. In 1902 they
moved to Sanders, Idaho where he was reared and educated.
He attended Seattle Pacific College
in 1924. That same year he married Beulah King in
Seattle, Washington. Beulah died in 1927. On May
25, 1930 he married, Mildred Beale of Pomeroy, Washington.
They spent several years in home mission work.
Walter was the first pastor of the Nazarene churches at
Harrington, Ephrata and Leavenworth Washington.
They pastored Nazarene churches in Idaho and Washington
until 1945, when they moved to Nampa and purchased the
Kampus Korner Grocery. They owned and operated the store
untfi their retirement in 1967. They have resided at
the Sunnyridge Retirement Center for the last 8 years.
Walter was a member of the Nampa College Church of the
Nazarene. He is survived by his wife
Mildred of Nampa; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Wyla and
Willis Barney, Grapeview, Washington, Dorine and Jerry
Nichols, Nampa; 1 son, Will Nichols, Nampa; 1 sister,
Mrs. Cora Robirts, Phoenix, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 22
great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 1 son, a granddaughter, 2
brothers and 1 sister. Friends may
call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to
9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Nampa
College Church of the Nazarene or flowers may be sent.
