Graveside services for Norma Irene Schmitt, 87, of Nampa, who
died Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Caldwell hospital, will be held
at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa.
The Rev. John Farner, deacon at St. David's Episcopal Church
in Caldwell, will officiate, under the direction of the Alsip
Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Friends may meet at the cemetery.
Mrs. Schmitt was born Oct. 21, 1899, at
Tuscarora, Nev., to Silas and Amanda Hughes Maxon. At a
young age, she moved with her family to Silver City, where she
was reared and educated. At the age of 16 she moved to
Boise with her family. She married Clyde
Hopson. They later divorced. She married Welsie
James "Shorty" Schmitt Dec. 14, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
They farmed in Star and later moved to
California, where they operated a hotel. After several
years, they returned to the Caldwell area and then to Star,
where they continued farming. Mr.
Schmitt died May 5, 1981. In October 1986 she
went to live with her daughter in Nampa, where she had since
resided. She was a member of the
Episcopal Church. She is survived by a
daughter, Berneice Tucker of Nampa; a daughter-in-law, Louise
Hopson of Boise; six granddaughters; three
great-granddaughters; and four great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Harry and Donald
Hopson; two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at the Nampa Alsip Chapel today until 9 p.m.
and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. |
