Carmen Churruca, 95, of Marsing, died Saturday, February 8,
1992, at a Caldwell hospital. Vigil services will be
held at 7 p.m. Monday, February 10, 1992 at Dakan Funeral
Chapel, Caldwell. Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Caldwell by Father Raul Covarrubias. Entombment
will follow in the Building of Reverence at Hillcrest Memorial
Mrs. Churruca was born September 5, 1896, in Ereno,
Vizcaya, Spain, to Pedro Markin and Maria Juana Echerte
Arrizabalaga. She came to the United States at the age
of eighteen and came to Boise at that time. She married
Frank Churruca in Boise in 1918. The moved to Bingham
Canyon, Utah, where Mr. Churruca worked in the copper mine and
later moved to Coeur d'Alene where he also worked in the
mines. They came to Boise and later to Marsing where she
cooked for the sheepherders and ranch hands at Colin McLeod's
River Ranch. Mr. Churruca later entered into a
partnership with Mr. McLeod in the Gem Ranch at Marsing.
Mrs. Churruca continued to cook for the ranch hands until they
moved to Canyon County in 1943.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and
Euzkaldunak of Boise.
Suriviors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank
and rosalie Churruca of Phoenix, Arizona, and Joe and Bette
Churruca of Marsing; two sisters, Agueda and Paula, both in
Spain; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and a
son Julio Churruca.
