Harry Birt

     Funeral services for Harry M. Birt, 76, of 4780 N. Star Road, Meridian, who died Sunday at his home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Alsip Funeral Chapel with Pastor Otto S. Zuckschwerdt, pastor of the Boise Valley Church of the Brethren, officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
     He was born De. 3, 1905 at Smithfield, Neb., where he was reared and educated.  He married Ruth Oaklund on April 9, 1932 at Lexington, Neb.  He farmed in Nebraska until coming to Idaho in 1936.  He worked at various jobs in Idaho, Oregon and Washington and farmed in Idaho until going to work for Ferdinand Metal in 1962 and retiring in 1971.  Since his retirement he had been the caretaker at the Lower Fairview Cemetery.  He was an active member of the Boise Valley Church of the Brethren and was responsible for care of the church lawn.
     He is survived by his wife of Meridian; two sons, Bob Birt, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Al Birt, Nampa; two daughters, Harriette Birt, Meridian and Mrs. Tom (Vonda) Howerton, Pocatello; three brothers, Frank Birt, Nampa, Robert and Jennis Birt, both of Elwood, Neb.; two sisters, Mima Holthus, Elwood, Neb., and Florence Fories, Westminster, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
     Memorials may be given to the Boise Valley Church of the Brethren, 4780 N. Star R., Meridian 83634 or flowers may be sent.
