The family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1964 where James played with the Honolulu Symphony and taught high school band and orchestra for many years. In 1985, James and Dora returned to Idaho where they resumed their music business from their home where James taught private lessons and repaired instruments until a week before his death. He often expressed the pleasure and fulfillment he received from sharing his love and joy of music with his students.
