Orval Birks

     Services for Orval Edwin Birks, 96, of 332 N. Sugar Ave., Nampa, who died Dec. 4 at his home, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Nampa Third Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 504 11th Ave. N., with William Morgan, second counselor of the Nampa Third Ward Bishopric, officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.
     He was born July 19, 1886, to Rosetta Ann Rice and Edwin Wheeldon Birks at Farmington, Utah.  In 1900 he moved to St. Anthony, Idaho.  He married Minnie Maude Whipple on March 19, 1921 in Boise.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in 1929.  In 1925 they moved to Melba and then to Nampa in 1942 where they made their home.  He was a member of the Nampa Third Ward LDS Church.
     He is survived by his wife, Nampa; five daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Ruby) Loberg, Mrs. Roger (Roselia) Moore, Mrs. Verda June Jorgensen, all of Nampa, Mrs.. Marcel (Della Marie) Bourse and Mrs. Jay (Ila Fae) Henrie, Salt Lake City; five sons, Howard Birks, Nampa, Albert Birks, West Valley City, Utah, Orval Jay Birks, and George Boyd Dirks (sic-Birks) of Salt Lake City and Clarence Birks, Eureka, Calif.; 43 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters and two great-granddaughters.
     Memorials may be made to the Boise LDS Temple Fund, in care of Bishop Theo Morgan, 3604 Cherry Lane, Nampa 83651, or flowers may be sent.
     Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today until 9 p.m., all day Tuesday until 9 p.m. and Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.
