Graveside
services for Veola B. Downing, 91, of Caldwell, who died
Thursday, Dec. 3, at a Caldwell nursing home, will be held at
2 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
The Rev. Raymond A. Thompson of the United Methodist Church,
Caldwell, will officiate, under the direction of Dakan Funeral
Chapel, Caldwell.
Mrs. Downing was born April 27, 1896, in Montage, Texas, to
Thomas W. and Maude M. Griggs. She moved with her
parents to Lima, Mont., as a child and was reared and educated
there.
She married Floyd Downing May 1, 1912, in Dillon, Mont. They
cam to Caldwell in 1918 and farmed in the Dixie community
until her husband's death Sept. 1, 1966. In 1970 she
moved into Caldwell, where she had since resided.
She is survived by a son, Lester Downing of Notus; two
daughters, Thelma Harris of Needles, Calif., and Mildred
Bryant of White fish, Mont; a sister, Lela Bruce of Caldwell;
seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 11
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Friends may call today at the Caldwell Dakan chapel from 3 to
8 p.m. |
