Virgil E. Farner, 92, of
Nampa, died Sunday, March 3, 2002. Funeral services will be at
10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Alsip & Persons Funeral
Chapel, Nampa, with Pastor Way Fine officiating. Interment
will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
He was born July 12, 1909, in Frontier County, Nebraska, the
first of three sons to Carl E. and Flossie (Tibbets) Farner
where he recalled fond memories of his boyhood on the prairie
and Muddy Creek. The family moved to Idaho in 1925 purchasing
their farm at Melba. Virgil attended Melba High School and
Nampa Business College while living in the Melba and Franklin
Communities. There he met Mabel DeCoursey whom he married Dec.
31, 1930. Virgil and Mabel farmed the Melba place from 1931
through 1940 when they purchased a farm and moved to the
Lakeview Community. There, they observed their 71st wedding
anniversary on Dec. 31, 2001.
Virgil served his community, county and state in many
capacities including Lakeview School Board, Canyon County
School Board, South Canyon County Soil and Water District
Board, Federal Land Bank Association Board, Representative to
the Idaho Legislature, and the Idaho Water Resources
Commission and past president of the Idaho Swine Producers
Association. He loved farming and raising livestock and was
ever grateful for this way of life. He especially loved
He was a man of deep faith and is remembered for being
kind, humble and generous. He was a loving husband, father,
and Boppa, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by three children and their spouses, Ken
and Phyllis Farner , the Dalles, Ore., Norman and Virginia
Higer, Caldwell, and Tom and Sherrie Farner, Caldwell; 10
grandchildren, Ramona Farner Harwood, Lakeside, MT, Nancy
Farner, Keizer, OR, Dan Farner, Mulino, OR, James Farner,
Sherwood, OR, Debbie Higer Hamilton, Nampa, Tammy Higer Gabica,
Middleton, Scott Higer, Nampa, Kirby Farner, Boise, Brad
Farner, Middleton, Amanda Farner Gordon, Nampa; and 18
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife,
Friends may call at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel from 4 to
7 on Friday evening.
