Santos Rodriquez Sr.

    Santos "Sammy" Rodriguez Sr., 72, of Nampa, died Monday, July 1, 1991, at the Nampa hospital.  Vigil services will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa.  The Revs. Father Juan Carranco and Father Francis Springer, S.M., will be the celebrants.  Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
     Mr. Rodriguez was born Oct. 31, 1918, at Karnes City, Texas, a son of Pedro and Delfina Hernandez Rodriguez, and was raised and attended school there.  He began working with other family members on various farms near Karnes City, the last being that of Dr. King.  The family moved to Idaho in 1941 and he worked on the Herman Clembell farm at Aberdeen.  They moved to Nampa in 1943 where he worked as a farm laborer.  He married Lois Jean Smart March 17, 1950, at Nampa where they made their home.  He later began work as a section hand for the Union Pacific Railroad, then worked for Idaho Concrete Pipe Co.  He and Lois divorced in 1970.  He later worked for McClure's Machine Shop, retiring in 1984.  Thereafter, he worked part time for his brother at Tony and Maria's El Charro Restaurant.
    Survivors include a son, Santos Rodriguez Jr. of Nampa; seven daughters, Delfina Nava and Juanita Chavez, both of Nampa, Carol Ertman of Forsythe, Mont., Debra Martin del Campo of Nampa, Linda Zamarripa of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathy Rodriguez and Barbara Rodriguez, both of Nampa; a brother, Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez of Nampa; a sister, Vicenta Rodriguez of Gonzalez, Texas; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Pedro Smart Rodriguez.
    Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Persons-Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
