HOMEPAGE

Phil Church

Phil R. Church, 71, of Wilder, died Wednesday, April 26, 1995, at home.  Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 1, 1995, at the Wilder Cemetery, with the Reverend David Kegley officiating.  Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Phil was born September 18, 1923, at Wilder, Idaho, son of Bovb and Myrtle Church.  He attended school at Wilder and graduated from Wilder High School in 1942.  He served in the Army in the Philippines and Korea from 1943 to 1945, and then returned home to farm with his father.
He and Thelma were married onNovember 11, 1960, and together they raised Rick, Scott, Chris and Kathie.
Phil was a 38-year member of the Caldwell Elks.  He felt strongly about the Elks Lodge being involved with helping children.
For several years Phil enjoyed his cabin at Donnelly, snowmobiling in the winter months and playing in the lake with his kids, grandkids and friends in the summer.  But most of all, he loved the land and he spent a lifetime farming it.  He enjoyed watching the crops come up and also caring for his cattle each year.
"Why do you farm," people ask me
"If the future is so bleak?
     Why keep on losing money
When another job you could seek?"
I look at them, they'll never know.
     How will they understand?
The joy, the pride, the peace I feel,
     When standing on his land.

Phil is survived by his wife, Thelma; sons and daughter-in-law, Rick and Lori church of Parma, Scott and Barbara Church of Vancouver, Washington, and Chris and Felisa Churchof Juneau, Alaska; and his daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Neil Macleod of Wilder.  He had eleven grandchildren, Duncan, Alexander, Katie, Sarah and Andy MacLeod, Gabrielle, and Jeff Church, Jesse and Sean Church, and Tony and Phillip Chruch.  Also surviving is his sister, Lois Church of Wilder; and his nephew, Kenne Metzer of Homedale.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Metzer.
Memorials may be made to the Wilder Quick Response Unit, P.O. Box 151, Wilder, 83676, or to the Golden Gate Baptist church, Wilder, 83676.
