Entering Colorful Colorado

July 6 (cont)
This takes you on to Trinidad, Colorado. Here we passed down a long grade into Trinidad about 6 P M and drove around looking for a garage. As it began to rain, we went to camp at the park and ate supper. Here we took a boat ride and then started up town to the show but were too late so took in the city.

July 7 (Sunday)
We left Trinidad for Pueblo but stopped before we got very far out. At Kit Carson Park here we saw his monument. Then drove to a small mining town where we walked up. Arrived in Pueblo at 2 P M and got gas at a filling station and started out to the park to camp. We camped at 5 P M and the wind was awful; it rained a little then we walked over the grounds.

July 8
Went down town and went through Fitz Manufacturing Company and went through the Purity Bread Company, got our dinner, then went through Woolworth Building then started for Florence. Got to Florence, walked around and ate ice cream and candy and started for Welches Ranch about 3 miles from Canon City; stayed all night and next morning started for Colorado Springs.
July 9
Left at 10 p.m. and drove in Dodge car. On the way we saw Sleeping Indian and Dead Man's Hill and the Cheyenne Mountain range, a most beautiful drive. Ate dinner in a park and then it began to sprinkle. Then we went up North Cheyenne Canon to Helen Hunt Falls and went to Colorado Springs, then to Colorado City then to Manitou to camp and ate supper. From here we could see Pike's Peak.
Pikes Peak rises majestically from the prairie floor.

Huge monoliths with colorful descriptive names. No photograph can capture the immensity or grandeur of the Garden of the Gods.
July 10
Had breakfast, packed up and went to the Garden of the Gods and saw the Balanced Rock, the Petrified Indian, the Kissing Camels, Faith, Hope, Charity. While we were driving to Littleton, Colorado, we saw a wreck of a Franklin Car and a speeder. In Denver we drove up to Morey Merc. Co., then drove out to a camping ground.

Went to a restaurant and ate breakfast, got some new tires while here. Looked through the capitol and museum and out to Stratton Park and ate lunch, went to zoo in park. Then went to State Home for Orphaned Children to see about a little girl that Mr. Welch was going to take to Palmer Lake and then camped.

July 12 (Friday morning)
Ate a watermelon and drove to Colorado Springs and ate dinner at cafeteria and drove up a beautiful drive--Williams Canyon to the Cave of the Winds (16 rooms) with beautiful shade and starlight. From here we drove to Cripple Creek at Jam Rickketts, had supper.

July 13 (Sat. Morning)
We went on High Line and back on the low line.

July 14 (Sun.)
The older folks went for a drive. Then Mr. Dilley took us for a drive as far as Mt. Pisgee and then we walked up and stood on the top. From here we could see the streets of Canon.

July 15
We drove up to a mine in the cars and then went down in a mine 1400 feet deep, came back and ate dinner. Then started for Canon. As we started out, we met Mr. and Mrs. Welch on the road to town.

July 16
Got up, left Welches about 2 p.m., here I got some shoes. After we drove out a way, we ate watermelon. Here Mr. Dilley and family left us. Started on for Salida but did not get there that night for we had to stop on account of an arroya that was full of water. Camped at Wellsville; here it rained on us.

July 17
Before leaving here we went over to Hot Springs, dried out our bed clothes and started on about 9 a.m. and drove to Salida where we inquired for mail. Drove 15 miles over Monarch Pass into Gunnison where we went to garage and got gas and drove out of town and ate 5 and went on about 14 miles to Sapinero and camped.

July 18
Started for Montrose and got on wrong road; ran into a private ranch; went back to road around a very dangerous mountain road. Got gas at Montrose. Started for Delta. We stopped out by a bridge and ate dinner and got water and drove 34 miles to Grand Junction; helped a man fix his tire so we could get by. Arrived at Grand Junction about 8 p.m.; here we wrote cards to folks.
