Started at 8 a.m. for town. Here we wrote cards. Left the town at 10 a.m. and
drove about 20 miles and Matticks' car caught fire. Howard told them what
to do. Floyd tried to fixing the wire but didn't, so we tied their car to ours
and we pulled them about 7 miles to a town (Woodside) where we ate dinner
and Mr. Mattick's got two men and they fixed it; left here about 5 p.m.; had
to stop several times. It rained and we had to put side curtains on. Arrived
we at Wellington at 8:40 a.m. and camped in school grounds; got up early
and started for Price, a very nice little place and county seat. Mr. Matticks
had his car worked on and we walked over city, ate dinner and started at
about 2:15 p.m. and drove 38 miles through mountains until it began raining
hard. Several cars came along and stopped. The men folks slept in the cars
but Uncle C. and he walked 2 mi. to a mall town and slept in a bunk car,
while the ladies slept on cots in an old house on a hill.
We left here about 2 p.m. and drove to Salt Lake and tried several places to
camp. We camped near Husler Flour Mill on State St.
Went down town about noon and walked around the temple grounds in the
Tabernacle and listened to a Mormon talk. We then went to New York Cafe
and had dinner. Then drove to Salt Air about 25 miles out and went bathing.
Drove down town to the Court House and through the Capitol and then to
the Tabernacle and heard a pipe organ recital at noon; and to a cafe for
dinner. After dinner we went out to Liberty Park and Oh! Such a crowd as
we did see! The people were celebrating Pioneer Day.
