More trails
and cutoffs passed through the Cassia County area than any other part of
Idaho. The main trail crossed the northern edge of the county in a westerly
direction.
The California-Applegate Trail left the Oregon Trail in the northeast corner of the county and headed southwest toward California gold. The Salt Lake-Oregon cutoff came from the south and moved northwest before turning west to meet the Oregon Trail near Twin Falls. Hudspeth's Cutoff joined the California Trail just southwest of the town of Malta. A connection between the Salt Lake Trail and the California Trail arched above southern border. |
