Age 28 yrs, 9 months and 21 days. Sam was killed shortly, within hours, of the notice of cease fire.  He was guarding a bridge when he was apparently killed by sniper.  As a boy I was told that Sam and his no. 2 machine gunner had heard a rumor that a cease fire was to be set.  The number 2 gunner went back to company lines to find out if was true and it was.  He went back to their position and found Sam dead.  Sam was the last man who lost his life from Blaine County Idaho in WW I.

- White, John Henry is buried in Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho. He enlisted in the Army at age 31, and was severely wounded in the St Mehiel Offensive on September 12, 1918.  He spent two months + in the hospital with shrapnel wounds in the throat and larynx which caused him serious respiratory problems the rest of his life.  He later received a purple heart for his service and injuries. He was reported killed in action and when he returned to the U.S. and his wife received a telegram asking that his body be picked up at the railway station. Because of his deteriorating health from war wounds, his doctor recommended that he relocate in the West.  In the early 1920's the family homesteaded at Milner, Idaho.  He ran the railroad station at Milner and his wife Hazel was postmistress and together they ran the general store.  He built a Tudor style log home on the homesteaded farm land across from Milner dam by cutting and dragging logs from the South Hills.  Located on their farm was the Milner cemetery and portions of the Oregon Trail with ruts remaining to this day. The family later moved to Twin Falls where he resided until his death on March 25, 1958 at the Veterans Hospital in Boise.
