WELCOME!

Lt. George Farragut Chapter was organized on October 15, 1965, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with fourteen charter members. We are located in the Idaho panhandle and are one of nine chapters in the state.

Our chapter namesake, Lt. George Farragut, was born in Spain in 1755. Farragut arrived in the Carolinas in 1776 during the Revolutionary War. He served as a lieutenant in the South Carolina Navy where he supervised shipbuilding for the colony and helped in the defense of Savannah. He later commanded a volunteer artillery in North Carolina. By the end of the war Farragut had been promoted to the rank of major. The second of his five children is David Farragut, the famous naval hero of the Civil War.

The Jewett House

Our chapter usually meets at the Jewett House on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene. This historic home was built in 1917 when steamboats still plied the waters of Lake Coeur d'Alene. A private residence for many years, the home was given to the city of Coeur d'Alene by Potlach Forest in 1978. It is currently used by many community groups including DAR.

We welcome inquiries from prospective members. Please contact us via email for more information.
