Welcome to the Rock Island County Illinois Genealogical Society! The Society was established in 1972 to help preserve and perpetuate members’ ancestral records. Our goal is to help assist members in genealogical research and educate the community on the importance of Rock Island County history.

Funeral Home Memorial Cards Update

Memorial cards from local funeral homes are collected by RICIGS and are located in our collection at the Rock Island County Historical Society Library. The list of the memorials cards is up-to-date as of 12/31/2015. To see the list, click here.

CD No. 2: Early Rock Island County Newspaper Abstracts (353 pages) Pre-1860


These CD contains abstracts of news articles of genealogical interest from an early Moline newspaper. The abstracts were produced by Janet Pease and this first, in a series of CDs, contains abstracts from four volumes of her work. 

The abstracts include newspaper coverage of:

·       Deaths

·       Obituaries

·       Probate records

·       Marriage ceremonies

·       Marriage licenses

·       Births

·       Birthday anniversaries

·       Wedding anniversaries

·       “Visits” of relatives to the Moline area

Civil War Soldiers’ Monument Restoration Project

The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Rock Island County Historical Society and the Civil War Roundtable of the Quad Cities, are in the process of raising funds for a restoration project. The Civil War Soldiers’ Monument, which is situated on the northeast corner of the Rock Island County Courthouse lawn, is in dire need of repair. 

You can make a donation to honor the fallen of Rock Island County. All donations are accepted, and are tax-deductible. Adopt A Rock Island County Civil War Soldier can be completed by a donation of $50. A certificate will be given to donor with the name of solider adopted from the monument.   More Information  Photos of Monument

Riverside Cemetery Records on CD

An extract of the Official Sexton Records of the Riverside Cemetery, Moline, Illinois, is now available on CD.  This CD contains information on over 27,000 burials published as two Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files.  Volume 1 includes surnames starting with A – J and covers the years 1873 – 2011. Volume 2 includes Surnames K – Z and covers the years 1873 – 2013. This work includes all burials including the 100’s of burials that never had a grave marker as well as burials where the grave marker is now missing or illegible.
