Truman BUCK, for a number of years one of the progressive and well-to-do agriculturalists
of Flora Township, Boone County [IL], departed this life at his home on 26 Jan 1877.
He was born in Otsego County, NY, 22 May 1811, and ws the son of Joseph S. BUCK, a
native of VT. The father of our subject removed from VT to NY and thence to Erie
County, PA, where he owned a farm and resided until his decease at the age of 86 years.
His wife, prior to her marriage, was known as Miss Betsy EASTWOOD; she was also a
native of the Green Mountain State [VT], and like her husband departed this life in Erie
County [PA].
Truman BUCK was a young man when his parents removed to PA, where he was married and
located upon a farm in Erie County, which he cultivated until 1853, the date of his advent
into IL. Making his home in Cherry Valley Township, Winnebago County, he was
identified with the interests of that community for two years, and then removed to the
farm where his decease occurred.
On 03 Sep 1835, Miss Eliza DROWN, who was born in Rose, Wayne County, NY, 15 Aug 1817,
became the wife of our subject. She was the daughter of Solomon DROWN, a native of
Parsonsville [York County], ME, in which state his father, John DROWN, was also born.
The grandfather of Mrs. BUCK moved to NY State and thence to PA, and departed this
life in Erie County. His wife was Mrs. Sarah (AYRES) DROWN, also a native of ME.
Mrs. BUCK died 30 May 1892.
Solomon DROWN was married in the Pine Tree State [ME], and about 1816 removed to NY State,
which was his home until 1832, when he took up his abode in Washington Township, Erie
County, PA. Five years later he traveled West to OH, and in Seneca County owned a
farm upon which he resided at the time of his death. His wife, who prior to her
marriage was Elizabeth HATCH, also had her birth in ME, and died in the town of Rose
[Wayne County], NY.
The eight children who were granted our subject and his wife are as follows: (1)
Elizabeth L., Mrs. Henry R. VAN EPPS, resides in Peoria [Peoria County, IL]; (2)
Mary J., who is united in marrige with Abial L. ADAMS, makes her home on her
father's old homestead; (3) Eliza, the next in order of birth, is deceased; (4)
Joseph S. is a resident of Chicago [Cook County, IL]; (5) William Perry is
living in Cherry Valley; (6) Emma, Mrs. George H. GRUMMON, is a resident of this
township, where also (7) Clinton W. lives; and (8) Horace, at present residing
in Pocahontas County, IA. Mr. BUCK is a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, as
was Mrs. BUCK before her death. Since coming to IL our subject has voted the
Republican ticket.
