Henry Briscoe, stock-dealer, Westfield, is one of the leading stock-dealers in this township, and was born November 12, 1835, the eldest son of Joseph Briscoe and Lucinda Frederick.  Henry was born on Section 27, and was raised on the homestead and remained here until 1856, when he began for himself in stock dealing, and for several years drove cattle to Chicago, and in 1857 went to Minnesota.  He has since been engaged in stock dealing.  From 1869-1871, he was quite extensively engaged in farming.  He was married in October, 1862, to Sophia M., born in this county, daughter of Clark Nicholas and Phebe Morrison.  Has four children living, viz., Alice, Charles B., Joseph D. and William T.  Democratic in politics.  First wife died May 4, 1876.  Present wife was Mrs. Abigail Hays, born in this county, daughter of Michael York.  No children by last wife.  Is still carrying on farming in connection with his stock dealing.
