Mrs. Gertrude Landis
Last Wednesday evening Oct. 19, 1905 about 6:30 o'clock, the sad news was given out that Mrs. Gertrude Landis was dead. The end came after everything known to medical science, was done to save her. In her death the family has lost a kind and loyal sister, her husband, a loving and faithful companion, and the community a highly esteemed and faithful friend and neighbor.
She was a member of St.
Jude's Episcopal Church, was organist and in the choir for many years and
always took a lively interest in the work of the church. In the social
life of the village her many friends will miss her kind smile
and sunny disposition
from their gatherings. She had an abhorrence of gossip and she spoke ill
of no one. She held the position as president of the L. M. I. society,
being one of the first members. She graduated from the Tiskilwa high school
in 1886.
Her funeral was held from -- More homestead on Saturday, Oct. 21, Rev. R. M. Laurenson, rector of St. Jude's church officiating, interment at Mt. Bloom.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful attesting the esteem and love of the many friends. Within the short space of several weeks, death has entered this home and taken two, Mrs. More having died Aug. 26 last. The remaining members of the family are two sisters, Miss Marion More and Mrs. Emma Pettegrew.
The bereaved husband and relatives have the sympathy of the community in the loss of one whom we all held in the highest regard.
Lydia Gertrude More was
born in Tiskilwa, IL. Nov 29, 1867; was married to Dr. B. F. Landis of
this place, May 14, 1895, and died Oct 18, 1905 aged 38 years, 10 months
and 19 days.
