The American Geographical Society Library is considered to be among the world's leading geographical libraries. The scope of its collection is broad, encompassing all aspects of geography, cartography and selected facets of related disciplines.

The AGSL holds a large map collection (approx. 448,350) which reflects the development of cartography in every continent and country throughout the years. It contains early as well as up-to-date maps, topographic series, thematic maps, and hydrographic charts from around the world.
