Rites for Bertha WARDELL held on Wednesday.
Mrs. Bertha M. WARDELL, 84, of Macomb, formerly of Schuyler County died Sunday at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1pm. at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell, IL. with burial in Palm Cemetery southwest of Rushville, IL..
She was born on Aug. 30, 1893, at Clayton, IL. a daughter of Perry and Rebecca GIDDINGS. She married Harry WARDELL on May 25. 1912, at Virginia, IL. He died in August 1957.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vera BOYD of Canton, IL; and six sons, Frank of Ellisville, IL., James of Santa Clara, Calif., Morris of Princeville, IL, Lyle of Smithfield, IL., Harry of Florida, IL., and Charles of New Lenox, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Funeral will be held on Friday.
Charles WARDELL a carpenter and a resident here for many years, died in Schmitt Memorial hospital at 3:50 o'clock this morning.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Grand Avenue Baptist church with the Rev. Lee Anderson in charge. Burial will be at the City cemetery.
The body has been returned to the late home 407 West Sixth Street from the Cline Funeral home.
The decedent was born March 20, 1889 in Schuyler County but lived here most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth BLACK, his children Leslie of Beardstown, William who is in service in Africa. Mrs. Vera BECKER of the city. Miss Christina at home, Mrs. Lucille ROBERSON of Rock Island and Thelma VINCENT of the city.
Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Frank of Bushnell, Thomas of Galesburg, James of Macomb, Mrs. Herman GREEN of this city, Mrs. Carl GREEN of Rushville, Mrs. Joe DAVIS of Astoria, and Mrs. Katheryn CLEMENTS of Bushnell.

Mrs. Elizabeth WARDELL, 82, died at Schmitt memorial Hospital Sunday at 7:30 p.m. She had entered the hospital on Jan. 17th.
Mrs. WARDELL, was born on August 27, 1888, at Rushville, the daughter of John D. and Solena ADAMS BLACK. She was married to Charles E. WARDELL on April 21, 1909, at Rushville. Mr. WARDELL died in August 1963.
She was also proceeded in death by two daughters, two brothers, one sister, one grandson and two half brothers.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Vera) BECKER of Beardstown, Mrs. James (Thelma) VINCENT of South Bend, Indiana, Mrs. Lester (Lucille) ROBERSON, of Mokena, Illinois; two sons, Leslie WARDELL of Fulton, Illinois, William WARDELL of Owlings Mills, Maryland; 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter.
She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Beardstown. Funeral services will be held at the Cline Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Arnold Hoffman of the First Southern Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation with the family.
** Note regarding this obituary: Mrs. WARDELL's mother Solena ADAMS was previously married to Henry David GOLLIHER of Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois and had two sons Buford Adams GOLLIHER and William James GOLLIHER. Also Mr. Charles E. WARDELL died in July of 1943.

Miss Christine WARDELL Dies.
Miss Christine WARDELL, 23, died at 10 o'clock last night at her home, 407 West Sixth street, following an illness of 18 months.
She was born April 21, 1929 in this city, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth BLACK WARDELL.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth BLACK WARDELL, two brothers, C.L. WARDELL of Pickstown, South Dakota, and William, who is in the U. S. Army and is enroute to Texas; and three sisters, Mrs. Floyd BECKER and Mrs. James VINCENT of this city and Mrs. Lester ROBERSON of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her father and one sister.
The body was removed to Cline's Funeral home to be prepared for burial.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Efforts are being made to contact her brother, William WARDELL who is in the armed services and is enroute to Texas.

Vera BECKER, 85, of Beardstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1996, at Myers Convalescent and Skilled Nursing Center in Beardstown.
She was born July 22, 1910, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth BLACK WARDELL. She married William F. BECKER in Beardstown on Nov. 20, 1926, he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1980.
She is survived by two sons, William Donald BECKER of Beardstown and Richard Lee BECKER of Grottoes, VA.; two daughters, Betty LAEL of Beardstown and Maxine REBMAN of Rushville; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille CARUSO of Peoria, Ariz., and Thelma VINCENT of Beardstown.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her Husband, two brothers, two sisters, and one grandson.
Vera was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Beardstown and the Eastern Star.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb 15, 1996, at Beardstown City Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Cline Funeral Home of anytime Thursday, before time of service.
Memorials have been suggested for the Activity Fund at Meyers Nursing Home.

Robert W. Whitcomb - 1934-2003 - Virginia

    Robert W. Whitcomb, 69, of Virginia, and formerly of the Kansas City, Mo area died Friday evening, Sept. 12, 2003 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
    He was born Feb. 26, 1934 in San Jose, Calif., the son of Wilbur Wesley and Ida Fowles Whitcomb. He married Joyce Young in 1953 at Napa Valley, Calif. He later married Phyllis Elaine Hunt Whitcomb on June 17, 2000 in Jacksonville, and she survives.
      He is also survived by two sons, Robert Wesley of Smithville, Mo and William Wesley (wife, Debbie) of Virginia; six daughters, Kaythern (husband, Kenneth) Heller of Kingsville, Mo, LeRue Suzann Kensinger of Kansas City, Mo, Athena (husband, Chuck) Brissey of Virginia, Terrie Poggenpohl of Virginia, Carolyn (husband, Rodney) Lane of Chandlerville, and Tammy Brunk (companion, Randy Gress) of Virginia; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by three children, Charles Wesley Whitcomb, John Wesley Whitcomb, and Marie Annjanette Whitcomb; one
brother, Rev. Wilbur W. Whitcomb; and one sister, Phyllis Whitcomb.
    Mr. Whitcomb served as a locksmith for over 30 years in the Kansas City metro area and was a generous blood donor for the Kansas City
area. He was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly Of God Church in Virginia. He enjoyed reading, music, classic movies, playing chess,
browsing yard sales, and debating issues with family and friends. A devoted family man, his greatest love was spending time with his family.
    Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia, IL. The family will meet friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. Monday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Whitcomb family. Berlyn H. White 1913-2002
    Berlyn H. White, 89, of Beardstown, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 19, 2002, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
    He was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Beardstown, the son of Mark and Della Robertson White. He married Lois Treadway Oct. 2, 1943, in the Geiger Air Force Base Field Chapel in Spokane, Wash., and she survives in Beardstown.
    He is also survived by one daughter, Jill (husband, John) Moore, of Champaign; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by four
sisters, Genevieve White, Ione Rohn, Elizabeth White, and Norma Bates; and two brothers, Joel White and Carlyle "Babe" White.
    Mr. White graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1934 and worked as an apprentice pharmacist at Doyle's Rexall Drug Store in Beardstown. He then entered the U.S. Army Air Force in February 1942 and served in the medical corps in Spokane, Wash., during World War II. Upon returning to Beardstown after his military service he was employed at Long's Pharmacy in Jacksonville. Later he worked for Montgomery Ward in Beardstown and after two years began his employment at the Beardstown Post Office where he served as a letter carrier for 34 years until his retirement. After retirement he was employed by Huss' Men's Wear in Beardstown for several years. Mr. White was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown and was also a member of the Beardstown American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and yard work. He was also quite skillful as a wood carver of miniature birds, ducks, and houses. Mr. White and his wife particularly liked to travel throughout the country especially enjoying Estes Park, Colo.
    Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials have been suggested to the First United Methodist Church Samaritan Fund or Cass County Hospice.

   Mrs. Lavina White Anderson, aged 88 years and 9 months, died Sunday morning about 8 o'clock at her home in Sand Prairie, about six miles
south west of Beardstown. She had been ailing for several weeks but she never before had been bedfast and the day before her death she sat
up the greater part of the day. Lavina White was born October 11, 1818 in North Carolina and moved with her parents to Cass county when she was about 14 years of age. In 1839 she was united in marriage to William Anderson. They engaged in farming about six miles from town, and she resided there until her death Sunday.
   Eleven children were born to this union, four of whom survive: Lee, Jesse, Martin and Franklin. Her husband passed beyond about twenty
eight years ago. Mrs. Anderson was well known in this vicinity and had a large circle of friends and acquaintances who will be saddened by her
death.
   The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Black Oak Grove church. Informant will be made at the church cemetery.

Charles E. Wilkins - 1921-2003 - Beardstown

    Chares E. Wilkins, 81, of Springfield and formerly of Beardstown, died Thursday morning, April 17, 2003, at his residence.
    He was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Beardstown, the son of Charles and Lulu Hillis Wilkins. He married Edna "Alberta" Davis May 3, 1946 in Beardstown, and she survives.
    He is also survived by one son, Gregory (wife, Doris) of Springfield; two daughters, Susan (husband, Ronald) Taylor and Sharon (husband, Charles) Hamilton, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Mark Harris of St. Louis, Dawn Petty of Overland Park, Kan., and Michelle Hamilton of Springfield; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie (husband, Marland) Davis of Homestead, Fla., and Betty Clayton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Harris; and one brother, Bill Wilkins.
    Mr. Wilkins was a graduate of Beardstown High School. He joined the Army Air Corps at Chanute AFB in Rantoul in 1940. He flew P51's throughout World War II. After being discharged from the Army Air Corp at the end of the war, he joined the 170th Fighter Squadron which is now the 183rd Tactical Fighter Group based in Springfield. The squadron was called to active duty with the U.S. Air Force in 1951 for the Korean Conflict. The last 12 years of his 25 year career were spent in the Stratigic Air Command flying K97 refueling tankers. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1965 at the rank of Major. He was decorated with the following medals: ADSM, ACM, KSM, NDSM, UNSM, WWIIVM, AFLSA, (3 OLC) and AFCM.
    Graveside memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Beardstown City Cemetery. Goodwin Funeral Home of Beardstown is in charge of the arrangements. CURTIS WILLIAMS
    Curtis Williams, son of John H. and Cynthia Ward Williams was born near Newmansville April 25th, 1862, and departed this life June 7th,
1943, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 12 days.
    He was united in marriage to Mary Shores Sept. 14th, 1893. To this union was born one child. Both wife and child passed away in the year
1894.
    In the year 1896 he was united in marriage to Mary Oleson. To this union were born nine children. One son Harry preceded him in death Aug. 3, 1938. He is survived by his wife, four sons and four daughters, Milton of Jacksonville, Walter and Hershel of Chandlerville, Woodrow of Virginia, Esther Cox of Virginia, Sylvia Gilpin of Oakford, Myra Farrar of Rushville, Elizabeth Crouse of Ashland. Also 32 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren survive as well as three brothers, Robert and Amos of Springfield and George of Ashland, Mo., and one sister, Mrs. Emma Blair of Chandlerville and a host of friends and many other relatives.
    Curt as he was commonly called was always ready to lend a helping hand to others and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
    Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9th, 1943, at Lintner & Sons funeral home at 2 p.m. with Rev. J.M. Judy officiating. Interment was made in the Chandlerville Cemetery.
    Music was furnished by Mrs. Alvin Gebhard and Mrs. A.J. Nollsch with Miss Vivian Garner as pianist.
    The flowers were cared for by Robertine Gilpin, Donna Jeane Williams, Rosemary Winner, June Farrar, Mary Eva Crouse and Marjorie Cox.
    The pallbearers were James Dietsch, Perry Burns, Troy Wilninson, Clate Craggs, Louis Salzman and A.J. Nollsch.

Hershel E. Williams, 83, retired farmer and commercial fisherman, died of heart failure Thursday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brummitt Funeral Home with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McKenzie and a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Williams, the husband of Irma Schall Williams, also leaves a daughter, Ruth Carroll of McKenzie; a sister, Myar Farrar of Bellevue, Ill., and two grandchildren.

Note: Hershel was born and lived in Cass County for over 75 years. He and his wife retired to McKenzie, TN to be near their only child. The actual date of death was December 10, 1998. Also Myar should be Myra, the nickname for Cynthia Almyra Williams Farrar.

Note: Hershel lived most of his life in Cass County, Illinois, moving to McKenzie, Tennessee only a few years before his death. He was an excellent cook and his interests included genealogy. When he served in the U.S. Navy, he was a cook. The spelling "Myar" is incorrect. His sister was Cynthia Almyra "Myra" (Williams) Farrar. He was an uncle of the submitter's husband.

Larry E. Williams - 1942-2003 - Chandlerville

    Larry E. Williams, 60 years, of Chandlerville, IL died Thursday Morning, March 6, 2003 at his residence.
    He was born July 9, 1942 in Jacksonville, the son of Woodrow Emerson and N. Lucille Walbert Williams. He married Trudy Chesser and they were later divorced.
    He is survived by two sons, Lance Williams and Neil, both of Chandlerville; his mother of Jacksonville; one sister, Bonnie Mefford of Peru; one niece; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father.
    Mr. Williams was a 1960 graduate of Virginia High School and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He served with the U S Army, stationed stateside, from 1966 to 1970. He was a member of the Laborers Union and worked with R.D. Lawrence Construction Co. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
    Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Mrs. Dorothy (Perry) Story, Yanke, Williams, a former Beardstown resident , died at 6.30 am Friday, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
   She was born in Beardstown on May15, 1927, the daughter of John and Ruth Green Perry. She first married Harold Story, then Charles Yanke who died Jan 14, 1969.She later married Robert Williams on November 22, 1970, at the First Lutheran Church in Beardstown where she was a member.She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
   She is survived by her husband, Robert, two Daughters, Mrs Jerry(Suzie) Warden, Mrs Stan(Veda) Coil, of Beardstown, son Albert Story of Meredosia, father John Perry of Beardstown, six grandchildren, three brothers, Wesley and Galen Perry of Pekin, Gary of Beardstown, four sisters, Mrs Marion Lamaster of Hawaiian Gardens , Ca, Mrs Dona Nolting , Petersburg, Mrs Jackie Waters , Frederick, Mrs Janet Winder of Beardstown, grandmother, Mrs Daisy Green of Jerseyville, four step grandchildren,numerous nieces and nephews.
   She is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth,three brothers and three sisters, in infancy.
   Funeral services were held at 2pm today at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Glenn Anderson officiating. Burial in City Cemetery.

Ollie Mae Drinkwater Williams

   Ollie Mae Williams, 98, of Beardstown, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   Mrs. Williams was born on Sept. 18, 1901, in Hagener Township near Beardstown, the daughter of Henry Drinkwater and Mary Ann Bolijack-Drinkwater. She married Harry B. Williams in Cass County on June 20, 1921.
   She was the last surviving child of 12 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Rosemary Winner, one grandson; her parents, and her 11 siblings, Walter, Beuhla, Elsie, Lydia, Rachel, Lizzie, Charles, Sarah, Ed and Frankie.
   Mrs. Williams is survived by five grandchildren, Peggy (husband Elmer) Scheer, of Beardstown, Kay (husband Larry) Lawson of Springfield, Reta Winner of Anaheim, Calif., Cindy (husband Pete) Goshorn of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kevin Winner of San Antonio, Texas.
   She attended several years of school with perfect attendance and near perfect grades. After the death of her husband, she did housekeeping for William DeSollar Sr., and the DeSollar Insurance Company for more than 47 years; and several other homes. She also worked at the Park House and Bowling Alley. She dedicated her life to hard work and to her family. Mrs. Williams did not fully retire until 1995.
   Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the Cline-Goodwin Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial was at Virginia in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Funeral Services for D. E. Wilson Held In Springfield

Funeral services for David E. Wilson, 82, of Springfield, formerly of Ashland, were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Bisch Memorial Home, with Rev. Richard Clausen officiating.

Mr. Wilson was dead on arrival at 9:20 a.m. Saturday at Memorial hospital.

Mr. Wilson was a former Mayor of Ashland, Republican chairman of Cass County. He was a graduate of Kennedy’s Normal School in Rushville and at the time of his death was associated with David E. Wilson and Associates, an accounting and insurance company in Springfield.

Mr. Wilson was also formerly the auditor and agent for the C&A, B&O and GM&O Railroads.

Surviving are the widow, Pretelia; a son, David M. Wilson of Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. Creel Douglass, Springfield; and a sister, Mrs. Harry Kauffman of Omaha, Neb. and five grandchildren.

Burial was in the Ashland cemetery.

Mrs. Pretelia Wilson, Former Resident Dies, Rites Held Thursday

Mrs. Pretelia F. Wilson of 2001 Wiggins Ave., Springfield, former Ashland resident, died at 3;30 a.m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of William and Pretelia C. Pasley Bradley and was the granddaughter of Sir Thomas Pasley of England. Her husband, David E. Wilson died in 1964.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Creel Douglass and one son, David M. Wilson, both of Springfield; five grandsons, Garon and Roger Douglass, David, Gregory and Brett Wilson, all of Springfield; three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev. James S. Barge officiating. Burial was in Ashland cemetery.

Sally Ann Taylor Wilson Born November 29, 1819 Died April 22, 1895

The subject of this sketch, Mrs. Sallie Ann Wilson nee Taylor, was born November 29^th, 1819, in Nicholas county, Kentucky, near Carlisle; came to Morgan county, Ill., when about eleven years old, with her parents. Here she lived until September 30^th, 1841, when she was united in marriage with Calvin J. Wilson, of Cass county, whither they at once moved, and established a home near the Hickey cemetery where their remains now rest. They subsequently bought and removed to the farm two and one-half miles east of Chandlerville, where she has lived probably forty-five years, and from which place she was summoned by the death angel on the afternoon of April 22d, when her life’s sun set forever upon this world, and she saw “The shore where she should rest.”

Her’s was no easy life, Commencing as did most persons in that day, when luxuries were not to be thought of, and necessaries hard to win, she was a helpmate in more that an ordinary sense. Endowed by nature with excellent judgment and untiring energy, she nobly assisted her husband in every business pursuit, and by their joint efforts secured early in life a competence from which they lived in comfort and were ever able and willing to help the needy. In this particular as in most others she and her husband were a unit, and a very liberal one.

She reared five children and possibly lost some in infancy. Of those reared, John died in the army during out national strife; whether from wounds or disease we are not informed; the surviving four, Joseph, W. Jeff, Mrs. Ves. Hutches and Mrs. Frank Cook, live close around the old root-tree, and during the eleven years of their mother’s widowhood, and declining health, we think not one failed in final duty and affection. In 1861, we think, she added Christianity to her other virtues and became a charter member of what is now the Christian church of Chandlerville, but at that time the society held its meetings in a country school house. In this as in everything else she was faithful, and we confidently believe, won her crown. Her health has been failing ten or more years. During that time the writer has seen her at intervals of one and two years, and each time there was noticeable decay of the material body, and last summer it was more perceptible than ever before, and she instinctively thought with Victor Hugo, “Only body enough to give the soul an excuse for staying with it.” But God’s time for rewarding a long and well spent life came at last. He wanted the jewel to have a better setting and took it to himself. While her relatives and friends are saddened by her departure, we borrow the language of Longfellow in which to reiterate, that neither death or the grave have won a victory.”

The funeral was held at her residence, conducted by her old friend W. W. Linn, of Jacksonville. Many sorrowing friends witnessed interment.

   Mrs. Anna Winhold died at the White Convalescent Home in this city Monday morning at 4:10 a.m. She has been seriously ill for the past three weeks, part of which time she was a patient at the Passavant hospital, Jacksonville.
   Mrs. Winhold was born in Arenzville February 22, 1875, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Rahn Kircher. On February 1, 1901, she was married to William Winhold and they established their home on a farm four miles south of this city. Mr. Windhold died in 1915.
   She is survived by two sons, Roy of this community and Virgil of Elvanston, Ill. Also surviving are three grandchildren; two brothers, Henry and Frank Kircher, and one sister, Mrs. Lee Beard, all of Arenzville.
   Mrs. Winhold was a member of the Presbyterian church at Arenzville.
   Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Winhold residence four miles south of Virginia. The Rev. H.F. Higgins officiated and burial was in Walnut Ridge cemetery.
   Mrs. F.D. Savage and Miss Catherine Collins were the vocalists singing without accompaniment.
   The floral tributes were cared for by Miss Iva Lancaster, Mrs. Gladys Dahman, Mrs. Bertha Petefish, Mrs. Rena Kruse, Mrs. Lucille Schnitker and Mrs. Mildred Kolberer.
   Casketbearers were John and Robert Kircher, John, Roland, Raymond and Robert Beard.

Chester L. Winner - 1912-2003 - Beardstown

   Chester L. Winner, 91, of Beardstown, died Tuesday evening, March 4, 2003, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
   He was born Jan. 7, 1912, in rural Cass County, the son of Isaac Newton and Gertrude Barnes Winner. He married Rosemary Williams July 30, 1938, in Bowling Green, Mo., and she preceded him in death.
   He is survived by one son, Kevin J. of San Antonio; three daughters, Reta A. Winner of Anaheim, Calif., Peggy S. (husband, Elmer) Scheer of Jacksonville, and Cindy R. (husband, Pete) Goshorn of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Daisy (husband, Russell) Spindell of Denver; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Harry L.; one daughter, Patricia K. Lawson; two brothers, Lester and James; and one sister, Amy Winger Smith.
    Mr. Winner enjoyed entertaining by playing the banjo, mandolin and the fiddle. He was a member of the OWL Club which would play cards as a past time. He was a retired farmer who knew about hard work.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Goodwin Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.

Marjorie L. Wooldridge - 1927-2003 - Ashland

      Marjorie L. Wooldridge, 76, of Ashland, died Monday evening, July 14, 2003, at her residence.
      She was born April 11, 1927, in Beardstown, the daughter of Carl B. and Lula Dunham Ring. She married Carl Henry Wooldridge in August
of 1947 in Springfield, and he preceded in death on May 27, 1992.
      She is survived by a daughter, Judy (husband, Junior) Guffey of Ashland; two grandchildren, Christina Guffey-Joy (husband, Andy) of
Springfield and Jeffrey Guffey of Parkville, Mo.; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl F. Ring and Harold Ring, both of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jess Ring.
      Mrs. Wooldridge was a homemaker and a long-time member of the Ashland Church of Christ.
      Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Ashland Cemetery in Ashland. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Ashland Church of Christ in Ashland. Wanda S. Workman - 1918-2003 - Chandlerville

    Wanda Alvera Sandidge Workman, 84, of Chandlerville, died Saturday evening, March 1, 2003, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
    She was born April 2, 1918, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of John T. and Delta Sisson Sandidge. She married Carl Workman March 31,
1951 at the Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville, and he survives.
    She is also survived by two nephews, David (wife, Linda) Sandidge of Chandlerville and John (wife, Ann) Kennedy of Monmouth; and two
nieces, Elaine (husband, Larry) Bolt of Springfield and Barbara (husband, Ed) Johnson of Virginia. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul (surviving wife, Eleanor of Chandlerville) Sandidge and Ralph Kennedy; and one sister, Fay Taylor.
    Mrs. Workman was a retired hair stylist and farm wife. She began playing the piano at 12 years old and has served as an organist and pianist for her church many years in addition to providing music at numerous weddings and funerals. She was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church in Virginia and has served many years as a Sunday
school teacher. She was a 1937 graduate of Chandlerville High School.     Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home in Chandlerville, with burial at Chandlerville Cemetery. Died, Eli M. Wyatt, Sept. 24, 1894, aged 85 years. Funeral service were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Wednesday at 10 o' clock, after which the remains were entered in the Ashland Cemetery. An obituary will appear next week.

    Eli Wyatt was born in East Tennessee, May 18, 1809 and died at this home in Ashland, Ill., September 24, 1894. When he was about two years old, he with his father moved to Todd County, Kentucky; where he remained about twenty years. August 10, 1828, the deceased was married to Miss Martha Keeling. Four years after this event he emigrated to Illinois locating in Morgan county where he resided over forty years. Thirteen children blest the first marriage.
    On March 21, 1854 his beloved wife died leaving to his care a large family. Nine years after this sad event he was in May 21, 1862 united in marriage to Miss Louisa Northcutt who still survives him. Three children were the result of this second union, all of whom are living.
    The deceased was a temperate industrious, prudent man - leading, a quiet peaceable life and about sixty years a member of the M. E. church and a devout earnest Christian. He was the father of sixteen children, the grandfather of 55 children and the great grandfather of 41 children, all of whom except two survive him. What a remarkable record - 112 descendants and but 2 deaths! God has been very merciful to them. Many of his family are following his footsteps in a godly life. May God grant sustaining grace to the bereaved and sorrowing.
