There were
no newspaper published in the present day county prior to 1852. Prior to
1852 the Danville, Vermilion County, IL, newspaper was used for legal and
official publications. Below is listed the various newspapers that have
been published in the county, the time period and if there are missing
issues. There is also reference to a German language newspaper being
published in the county but to-date no copies of this newspaper have been
found. If you locate any of the missing issues, they can be sent to the
Illinois State Historical Newspaper Library for microfilming or to the
Champaign County Historical Archives in care of Joan Lund. Newspapers are
listed by the town of publication, the name and the time period and a
little bit of history of the paper. Often, newspapers were used for insulation of older buildings so watch when tearing down old buildings. You may have copies of the missing issues! They are usually rolled up very tightly. DO NOT TRY TO UNROLL THEM let professionals do it. |
