Mary Lou Alcorn, 1927-2007, Beardstown
Mary Lou Alcorn, 79, of Beardstown, IL died Monday morning January 29, 2007 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born on July 13, 1927 in Beardstown, the daughter of Gene and Marie Walker Anderson. She married Kenneth Lee Alcorn on February 16, 1947 in Beardstown and he preceded her in death on August 8, 1990.
She is survived by two sons, Kenny Alcorn of Ooltewah, TN and Tom (wife, Carlene) Alcorn of Beardstown; 3 grandsons, Jeremy (wife, Laura) Barnett) Alcorn, Kory Alcorn and Matthew Alcorn all of Beardstown; two sisters, Vera Talkemeyer of Arenzville and Atha Lea (husband, Ray) Low of Visalia, CA; 3 sister-in-laws, Betty Alcorn, Joyce (husband, Harold) Johnson and Vera Fox, one brother-in-law, Jack Conn and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jason Lloyd Alcorn and Patrick Thomas Alcorn; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Conn and 4 brothers-in-law, Jerry Alcorn, Harold Alcorn, Clarence Fox and Bill Talkemeyer.
Mrs. Alcorn had been employed at Sears and Roebuck Co. as a salesperson. She later worked at Walker/Kent IGA as the deli manager. She had been an active member of the Community of Christ Church in Beardstown for 71 years, where she currently held the role as a priest. She enjoyed life and loved her family and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the family to meet friends from 6-8. Memorials are suggested to Heritage Manor South or Community Church of Christ. Pauline E. Alcorn - 1916-2003 - Chandlerville
Pauline E. Alcorn, 86 years, of rural Petersburg, and formerly of Chandlerville, died Tuesday evening, March 4, 2003 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in rural Petersburg. She was born November 12, 1916 in Newmansville, the daughter of Lloyd C. and Hilda Tieman Mathew. She married Virgil T. Alcorn Sept. 29, 1935 in Petersburg, and he preceded her in death Dec. 28, 1992.
She is survived by two sons, Dale (wife, Judy) of Quincy and Darrel of Pekin, three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Elizabeth (husband, Donald) Smith of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Milton Mathew.
Mrs. Alcorn was a graduate of Petersburg High School and was employed for a number of years as a secretary at Chandlerville High School. She was a member of Chandlerville Christian Church, Chandlerville Women's Club, Chandlerville American Legion Post #694 Auxiliary, and the Cass County Home Extension.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chandlerville Christian Church with burial in Chandlerville Cemetery. Don A. "Skip" Alexander, 1932-2000, Virginia
Donald A. 'Skip' Alexander, 67, of Virginia, died Friday morning, April 14, 2000, at his residence.
He was born May 23, 1932, in Auburn, the son of Roy Allen and Ethel R. Hovey Alexander. He married Marilyn Brown in 1951, and they were divorced in 1964. He later married Mary R. Jones in 1964, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1983. He later married Lois Ann Nottingham March 31, 1984, and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters from his first marriage, Connie Alexander of Springfield and Kathy Janes of Pierce City, Mo.; four stepdaughters, Bonnie J. (husband, Steve) Herrin of Newton, Iowa, Kathy (husband, Tony) Wzientek of Virginia, Coni (husband, Dale) Cox of Virginia, and Mary Ann (husband, Ron) Brockhouse of Virginia; six grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Alexander of Springfield, a sister, Betty (husband, Jim) Withers of Chatham; and six nieces and nephews.
Mr. Alexander was employed as a welder for Fiat-Allis in Springfield for 31 years, retiring in August 1982. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Jackson Club in Springfield and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Loami. Friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where family will meet friends from 3-5 p.m. Memorial are suggested to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.

Linda "Susie" Alexander, 53, of Virginia, died Tuesday morning, May 30, 2006 at her residence.
She was born March 17, 1953 in Springfield, the daughter of Alvin and Dorothy Maddox Cave. She married Bobby G. Alexander on March 17, 1984 in Ashland, IL and he survives.
She is also survived by one son, Chris Cave (wife, Shaun) of Springfield; one daughter, Bobbi Alexander of Virginia; two grandchildren; three brothers, Larry Cave (wife, Lisa) of Ashland, Ronnie Cave (wife, Melody) of Ashland, and George Cave (wife, Cindi) of Ashland; three sisters, Mickey Anderson (husband, Scott) of Ashland, Helen Bernice Robinson (husband, David) of Springfield, and Judy Subu (husband, John) of Sarasota, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Alexander was formerly employed as a nurse aide in several Springfield area nursing homes and also as a bartender in Ashland, Virginia, and Springfield.
Graveside funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Lois Ann Alexander, 1928-2002, Virginia
Lois Ann Alexander, 73, of Virginia, died Wednesday morning, March 27, 2002, at her residence.
She was born July 3, 1928, in Springfield, the daughter of Alfred Burton and Mabel Irene Noble Nottingham. She married David Sinclair and later married Donald A. "Skip" Alexander March 31, 1984, in Virginia and he preceded her in death April 14, 2000.
She is survived by her mother of Virginia; four daughters, Bonnie (husband, Steve) Herrin of Newton, Iowa, Kathy (husband, Tony) Wzientek of Virginia, Coni (husband, Dale) Cox and Mary Ann (husband, Ron) Brockhouse both of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and two granddaughters-in-law.
Mrs. Alexander was a 1947 graduate of Virginia High School and a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church. She enjoyed selling Mary Kay cosmetics, doing craft projects, playing bi-weekly in a bridge club, collecting dolls, and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice or the Virginia Park System.

Anna Belle Allen - 1930-2006 - Virginia
Anna Belle Allen, 76, of Virginia, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 6, 2006, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Springfield, the daughter of Earl and Elsie Rice Hederich. She married Carl K. Allen on Nov. 10, 1949, in Beardstown, and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Linda Colbert of Arvada, Colo.; one sister, Mary Lou Fey of Bourbonnais; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Allen was employed many years at the Beardstown Savings and Loan, retiring in 1994. She was a graduate of Beardstown High School, a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and a former member of the Beardstown Chapter of Business & Professional Women.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Condolences may be left at www.buchananfuneralhomes.com.

Carl K. Allen, 1926-2007, Virginia
Carl K. Allen, 80, of Virginia, and formerly of Beardstown, died Saturday evening, March 10, 2007 at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.
He was born April 16, 1926 in Beardstown, the son of Lindsey E. And LaVeta L. Bowman Allen. He married Anna Belle Hederich on Nov. 10, 1949, in Beardstown, and she preceded in death on Oct. 6, 2006.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Colbert of Arvada, Colo.; three brothers, Everett (wife, Cathy) of Carterville, Robert (wife, Linda) of Polson, Mont., and Roger of Jacksonville; one sister, Maxine (husband, Walter) Ball of Sayre, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen attended Beardstown schools and proudly served his country during WW II as a member of the 2nd Marine Division, participating in the invasion of Saipan and the occupation of Japan. He was discharged on Feb. 2, 1947. He returned to work as a lineman for CIPS, primarily serving the Beardstown and Virginia communities. He was a member of the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Beardstown, Virginia Lodge #544 AF & AM, and Beardstown VFW Post # 1239. He was a member of the Virginia Gun Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with military honors and burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Congregational United Church of Christ in Beardstown. Evelyn F. Allen, 74, of Ashland, died Saturday morning, June 3, 2006 at her residence.
She was born December 20, 1931 in Jacksonville, the daughter of Harold Edward "Red" Sr. And Helen Long Farmer. She married Harold D. Allen on October 26, 1957 in Ashland, and he survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Tom (wife, Leigh Ann) of Ashland, Steve (wife, Jennifer) of Ashland, John (wife, Jennifer) of Alexander, and Stan (wife, Melissa) of Sherman; two daughters, Jeannine Westlake (husband, Bill) of Riverton and Jennifer Flinn (husband, Alan) of New Berlin; 17 grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Edward "Red" (wife, Donna) of Ashland, Gerry of Ashland, and Gene (wife, Sue) of Arenzville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Virginia Watkins (surviving husband, Ray of Petersburg).
Mrs. Allen was a 1948 graduate of Ashland High School and was formerly employed at the State Bank of Ashland and Jacksonville State Hospital. With her husband, she owned and operated Allen’s Market in Ashland for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland where she formerly served as Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the church’s Ada Wallbaum Circle. She was also active in two pinochle clubs, the Ashland Woman’s Club, and the Cass County Home Extension.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Ashland, with burial in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Ashland. Memorial gifts are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. Georgia C. Allen, 1909-2002, Beardstown
Georgia C. Allen, 92, of Grand Junction, Colo., and formerly of Beardstown, died Friday morning, March 15, 2002, at the Apache Junction Health Center in Apache Junction, Ariz.
She was born Aug. 5, 1909, in Beardstown, the daughter of George and Clara Kohlman Marshall. She married Hobart Wesley Allen Dec. 8, 1936, in Missouri, and he preceded her in death in November 1944.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Allen of Grand Junction; a sister Jeanette (husband, Lee) Wells of Nashville, Tenn.; two nieces, including Beverly (husband, Jim) Davidsmeyer of Jacksonville; one nephew; and nine great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald "Diner" (surviving wife, Velma, of Beardstown) Marshall and Tom Marshall; and one niece.
Mrs. Allen graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1927...

Funeral services for LaVeta Allen were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 14 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with Rev. Andy Maxwell of Arenzville United Methodist Church officiating.
Vocalist Lois Maxwell sang, "When the Roll in Called Up Yonder" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Pallbearers were: Everett Allen, Bob Allen, Roger Allen, Bill Hasty, Ben Humm, and Daltun Hasty.
Burial was in the Beardstown City Cemetery.

Raymond Allen, 89, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Ashland, IL died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born May 26, 1919 in Prentice, IL; the son of Samuel and Jessie Decker Allen. He married Sara Petefish on March 17, 1946 in rural Ashland, IL and she preceded in death on July 12, 1993.
He is survived by a son, Rod Allen (wife, Barbara) of Champaign and a good friend, Wanda Stewart of Springfield. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Allen owned and operated Allen Trucking of Ashland for over 40 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Berea Christian Church and was formerly active many years with the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department and the Village of Ashland Board. He was also active in several other civic organizations in the Ashland area.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Berea Christian Church, south of Prentice with burial in Ashland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 PM Wednesday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Berea Christian Church. Ivan Lee Alloway, 1917, 2007, Beardstown
Ivan Lee Alloway, 90, of Beardstown, died Saturday evening, June 9, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
He was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Beardstown, the son of Lawrence Edward and Susie Henderson Alloway. He married Betty Louise Englund on July 2, 1939, at the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown, and she preceded him in death Dec. 30, 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Terry and Steve (wife, Becky), both of Beardstown; seven grandchildren, Brad, Angela, Chris and Andy Alloway, Shannon Thurman, Terri Jo Cassidy and Amanda Baer; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Fisher; and two brothers, Lawrence Edward Jr. and Richard.
Mr. Alloway graduated from Beardstown High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, B.P.O. Elks Club 1007, and a lifetime member of Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown. He was employed for over 30 years at National Starch in Meredosia until his retirement. He was a member of the "chain gang" at Beardstown High School football games for nearly four decades. When he was nine years old he was a golf caddie at the Virginia Country Club and continued to enjoy playing golf as a member of the Thursday Night Twilight Golf League and also playing golf with his friends.
Following cremation, memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Elks Crippled Children or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.
