A son of William Anderson was killed near Arenzville Saturday night last by being thrown by a horse he was riding.

Funeral services for Eunice Anderson, 11 year old Arenzville girl who died of polio at Our Saviour's hospital, Jacksonville, on Thursday morning, where held at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Eunice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of near Arenzville was the second polio victim in Arenzville within a four day period. Mrs. George Manker, mother of four children died on Sunday, January 4. Funeral services for Eunice were held at the Arenzville Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. G.H. Beiderwelden in charge.

James R. "Jimmy" Anderson, 57, of Beardstown, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 8, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born March 1, 1949, in Beardstown, the son of Ralph and Evelyn Brown Anderson.
He is survived by his mother of Beardstown; one son, Shane, of Quincy; companion, Nancy Spears of Beardstown; five step-sons, Brad (wife, Linda), John (wife, Becky), Steve and Mark (wife, Debbie) Spears, all of Beardstown, and Kevin Stanberry of Palmyra, Mo.; four step-daughters, Cathy (husband, Irv) McVey of Abingdon, Shelly Kaden of Palmyra, Mo., Amber Stanberry of Peoria, and Rosie Evans of Rushville; several grandchildren; four sisters, Norma (husband, Dick) Powell of Astoria, Joyce (husband, John) Jones of Quincy, Kathy (husband, Jack) Bell of Beardstown and Mary Ryan of Springfield; one brother George (wife, Julia) of Rushville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Tom and Donnie; maternal grandparents, William and Catherine Brown; and paternal grandparents, Jesse and Viola Anderson.
Mr. Anderson attended Beardstown High School and then served in the U. S. Army from 1968 until 1971 in Germany and Vietnam. He was employed with Material Service Barge Line and retired from Excel Corporation in Beardstown in 2002 after 16 years of service. He worked at Bellville's Garage in Beardstown for 10 years where he enjoyed "tinkering" with cars. He loved restoring 1950s cars and he dearly loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

Paul E. Anderson, 93, of Ashland, IL died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born July 30, 1916 in Jacksonville, IL; the son of Carl O. and Laura Payne Anderson.
He is survived by a daughter, Connie Burton of Ashland; six grandchildren, Dallas Burton of Ashland, Donnie Burton of Auburn, Candy Smith of Ashland, Kyle E. Anderson of Ashland, Kim Anderson of Chicago, and Doug Anderson of Ft. Myers, FL; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul “Reg” Anderson; a daughter in law, Denise Farmer Anderson; and three brothers, Robert, Charles, and Raymond Anderson.
Mr. Anderson served with the US Army during WW II. He was a farmer prior to working with the Ashland Street Department for 18 years and the Ashland Police department for 6 years. He retired from LA Security of Springfield. He also assisted with the Plattner’s Trail Ride for several years. He served 19 years as an Ashland Village Trustee and volunteered many hours as an umpire for Ashland Youth Baseball. He was a member of Ashland Church of Christ, Ashland VFW Post, and Ashland American Legion Post.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services and military honors will be conducted 10:00 AM Thursday at Ashland Cemetery in Ashland. The family will meet friends following the services at the June Forman residence, 319 S. Yates, Ashland, IL. The news of the death of Robert Anderson was received with a feeling of regret and sorrow by his many warm friends and former business associates in Ashland. The honorable dealings with him during the many years he was in business here will long be remembered and his friendly greetings missed by all of us.
Robert Anderson was born of Scotch parents in the Village of Dungannan, county of Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Dec.2, 1941 and died April 12, 1930, at the age of eighty-eight years, four months and ten days.
In 1865 he came to America. He was united in marriage to Mariana Lucas in Philadelphia, Penn., May 2, 1967, the two having been acquainted in Ireland before coming to America. They came to Jacksonville, Ill., in 1872, then to Ashland, Ill in 1977, where he was engaged in the lumber business for almost fifty years.
To their union four children were born: Robert L., Mrs. Henrietta Strawn, Mrs. Sadie Tomlin of Pleasant Plains, and William J of Kankakee, Ill. His wife, Mariana, His son, Robert L., and his daughter Henrietta, preceded him in death. On January 28, 1914, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sarah E Correll, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sadie Tomlin, one son, William J., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
When in Jacksonville he united with the Westminister Presbyterian church; later, in 1885 he moved his membership to the Presbyterian membership to the Presbyterian church in Pleasant Plains where he was a faithful member.
In 1869 he became a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, No. 243 in Philadelphia, Pa. Later he became a charter member of Lodge No. 770 in Pleasant Plains, Ill., where he received the diamond emblem for 50 years of faithful membership.
The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Tomlin, Pleasant Plains, on Tuesday, April 15, 1930 at 2 o‚clock.
The services were conducted by Rev. W.C. Shaffer, assisted by Rev. Ewing.
Accompanied by Miss Clarice Rearick, Mrs. Annette Lohman tenderly sang three of Mr. Anderson's favorite songs: "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Crossing the Bar," and "The City Four-square."
The many beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. George Witty, Mrs. Horace Witty, Mrs. Essie Corson and the Misses Helen Tomlin, Frances Tomlin and Geneva Purvines.
Interment was in the Ashland cemetery and the bearers were: William Sever, J.F. Tomlin, F.E. Drury, Samuel Anderson, Leonard Wright and Thomas Wright.

Death of Robert L Anderson
Robert L. Anderson was born in Philadelphia, Penn., July 29, 1868 and died at his home in Ashland, Ill., April 12, 1924, age 55 years 8 months, and 14days.
On April 13, 1898, he was married to Mary E. Dinwiddie. She with two sons, Roland L. and Samuel W. remain to mourn their loss.
He leaves also his father, Robt. Anderson of Ashland; a sister, Mrs. Issac Tomlin of Pleasant Plains, and a brother, William J. Anderson of Kankakee, Ill.
He was a member of the first class graduated from the Ashland High School in 1886. The following year he graduated from Brown's Business College, Jacksonville, Ill.
He took up as a life work the lumber business in which he as been engaged in Ashland for the past 20 years.
His life interest centered in this business and in his home.
The funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the residence, conducted by Rev. J.A. Biddle, pastor of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. W. C. Shaffer of Pleasant Plains. A large number of friends attended the services, which were very simple, made so at the request of the deceased.
Mr. Anderson was a member of both the Masonic and Odd Fellow orders of this city.
The bearers were J.H. Lohman, W.S. Williams, E.R. Clemons, Dr. R.O. Beadles, Guy G. Glenn and R.F. Mau.
The music rendered was by a quartet composed of Mrs. Anna Pearn, Mrs. H. J. Lohman, W. S. Rearick and Harry Harding.
The many beautiful floral designs and flowers were cared for by Mrs. Geo Wittlinger, Mrs. D.L. Clarke, Mrs. Geo. A. Lightle and Miss Martha Crum.
Interment was made in the Ashland cemetery.

Robert M. Anderson - 1923-2006 - Beardstown
Robert M. Anderson, 83, of Beardstown, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, 2006, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
He was born May 11, 1923, in Beardstown, the son of Mede M. and Cora Crews Anderson. He married Ethel Walton in February 1944, in Beardstown, and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Janice Kruse of Virginia and Kay (husband, Jim) Wagstaff of Murrayville; one grandson, Robert (wife, Tina) Kruse of Taylorville; one stepgreat-grandson; two brothers, Clifford and Melvin (wife, Linda), both of Beardstown; two sisters, Grace Anderson of Beardstown and Elenora VanJyning of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jessie (his twin), Carl, Lee and Irvin; and two sisters, Audrey Mohlenbruck and Helen Anderson.
Mr. Anderson attended Black Oak School in rural Beardstown. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed with Caterpillar for 36 years until his retirement. He was best known for the sweet potatoes, melons, and Christmas trees that he grew.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Robert W. 'Bob' Anderson, 1925-2008, Virginia
Robert W. "Bob" Anderson, 82, of Virginia, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his residence, north of Virginia.
He was born July 18, 1925, in Roxanna, the son of Siegle W. and Maude Mae Hildebrand Anderson. He married Rosemary Bethel on Feb. 27, 1954, in Brighton, and she preceded him in death Feb. 24, 1994.
He is survived by one daughter, Audrey (husband, David) Cox of Virginia; two sons, Wyatt D. (wife, Karen) of Chndlerville and Douglas N. of Virginia; six grandchildren, Devin (wife, Jessica) Cox, Chloe Cox, Adam (wife, Tina) Suffern, Wesley (wife, Sonia) Anderson, Ashley Anderson and Cole Anderson; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (husband, Jack) Dilliard of Washington, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Whitney Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was a boilermaker with Local 27 in St. Louis. He retired after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in a "Seabees" division. One of his greatest loves was taking trips in his motor home.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Ruth Elizabeth Anderson, 79, of Virginia, died Jan. 28 at Passavant Hospital.
She was born in Scott County Nov. 23, 1900, a daughter of Frank and Ruth Post Drummond.
She is survived by a daughter, Louise Michael of Virginia; two brothers, Theo Drummond of Griggsville and William Drummond of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Seigel, preceded her in death in 1975. Two brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Services were held Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Massie Funeral Home, Virginia. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Heart Association.

Vernon E. Anderson, 71, of rural Virginia, died Friday morning, Nov. 10, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Cass County, the son of Roy Edwin and H. Mildred Orne Anderson. He married Joanne Launer Feb. 6, 1960 in Bluff Springs, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Brian (wife, Brenda) of rural Virginia; one daughter, Denise (husband, Jeff) Davidsmeier of rural Virginia; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; one brother, Ralph (wife, Kathleen) of Davenport, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Anderson farmed in Cass County for over 50 years and formerly worked in the winter months for Lynnwood Shorthorn Farms in Carmel, Ind., an affiliate of Purdue University. A graduate of Virginia High School, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and the Cass Morgan Farm Bureau. He formerly served on the Board of Directors for Petefish, Skiles & Company Bank of Virginia and, for 28 years, was a 4-H leader in Cass County. He had also served as an election judge in the Philadelphia precinct for longer than 40 years.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, where the family will meet friends 4-6 p.m. Memorial gifts are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.

Wilma Anderson - 1907-2003 - Beardstown
Wilma Anderson, 95, of Beardstown, died Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 2003, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
She was born Oct. 7, 1907, in Perry, the daughter of Dennis and Mae Kirgan Gregory. She married Claude Anderson in January 1923 in Virginia, and he preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1973.
She is survived by six daughters, Jean Edsall of Danville, Dorothy (husband, James) Krohe of Springfield, Betty (husband, Paul) Chartos of Hammond, Ind., Nancy (husband, Carroll) Lovekamp of Rushville, and Jan Anderson and Sherry (husband, David) Taylor, both of Beardstown; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Beaver and Alden Gregory; and two sisters, Viola Fishel and Nola Patterson.
Mrs. Anderson attended Central School in Beardstown and she was the oldest living member of the Community of Christ in Beardstown. She owned and operated the A&W Drive-In, Sherry Pit Restaurant, and Dairy Bar in Beardstown for a number of years
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Family will meet friends from 5 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Private graveside rites will be held Thursday morning at Beardstown City Cemetery in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested the Community Christ Church in Beardstown.

Phillip J. Andrews, 70, of Evergreen Terrace in Beardstown, died Thursday night, March 7, 2002, at the Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
He was born July 19, 1931, in Meredosia, the son of Phillip and Nellie Hall Andrews.
Surviving are one sister, Velma (husband, Merle) Shores of Beardstown; one half-sister, Elsie Young of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Andrews attended Beardstown schools and worked for several years for Meyers Superette Grocery Store and the Red Fox Grocery Store, both in Beardstown.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12-12:45 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the Cass/Schuyler Hospice.

Janet Kay Applegate, 1946-2007, Beardstown
Janet Kay Applegate, 61, of Beardstown, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2007, in Schuyler County.
She was born Sept. 12, 1946, in Beardstown, the daughter of Virgil E. and Elizabeth Rohn Donovan. She married Fred Robert Schlueter in 1964. She married Carl "Butch" Applegate on April 14, 1994, in Rushville, and he survives.
She is also survived by her mother of Rushville; two sons, Mark R. (wife, Tami) Schlueter of Havana; five stepdaughters, Carla (husband, Greg "Bo") Walters, Missy (husband, Troy) Brockschmidt, Gail (husband, Eddie) Durell and Billie Jo (husband, Brian) Cooper, all of Beardstown, and Tiffanie Applegate (companion, Brandon Taylor) of Fayetteville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Cody, Rachel, Jennifer and Kacie; numerous stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson. She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Applegate graduated from East Peoria High School and attended Peoria Beauty College. She was a faithful member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, where she was a member of the church choir. She also sang in several Christmas cantatas with the Beardstown Community Choir. She greatly enjoyed flower gardening and was a member of Cass/Schuyler County Garden Club. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Beardstown.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. LaVerta W. Applegate, 1913-2000, Beardstown
LaVerta W. Applegate, 87, of Beardstown, died Friday morning, Nov. 10, 2000, at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born June 19, 1913, in Beardstown, the daughter of Fred and Etta Cummings Peyton. She married Alan D. "Babe" Applegate Feb. 14, 1936, in Virginia, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1994.
She is survived by three sons, Ted (wife, Georgia) and Tom, both of Beardstown and Terry (wife, Ann) of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter, Sandra (husband, Ronald) Carls of Beardstown; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Mrs. Applegate attended schools in Cass and Schuyler counties. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Beardstown and was formerly a member of the Beardstown Women's Club and Cass County Home Extension. In her younger years Mrs. Applegate sang for the Jacksonville and Carthage radio stations. She was active within the lives of her children and grandchildren, fulfilling her duties at a "PTA Mom." She especially enjoyed the many camping and fishing trips she took with her husband.
Memorial services for the cremains will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Beardstown. The Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Dora Armstrong - March 1957
Mrs. Dora Davis Armstrong, 78, of the Virginia community, died in San Gabriel, CA Monday following a long illness. (Died March 11, 1957)
She was born near Virginia, the daughter of Louis and Anna Davis and had resided in the Virginia community most of her life. Her husband, George Armstrong of Chandlerville, preceded her in death as did one brother Leo.
Surviving are one daughter, Maureen Ivey Callard of San Gabriel, CA; one sister Nelle Huber of CA and several nieces and nephews.
The body is being sent to Chandlerville where funeral services will be held Monday. Burial will be in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Virginia.

George Armstrong died September 22, 1946
George W. Armstrong, the last one of Chandlerville's early families passed away at his home on S. Main St.
Mr. Armstrong was born October 11, 1969 on his father's farm near Chandlerville, He was the youngest child born to James and Anna (Chittick) Armstrong.
On December 21, 1898, he was married to Jennie B Taylor who preceded him in death in 1916. To this union three children were born, namely; Myron G of Prairie City, IL, Mable Umback of Easton and Robert H. of Dayton, OH. In 1924 Mr. Armstrong he was united in marriage to Dora Davis who with his children and two grandchildren are left to mourn his loss.
Interment was in Chandlerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Jennie Taylor-Armstrong was born in Cass County, Illinois, March 1, 1873. She grew to womanhood in the vicinity of Chandlerville and on December 23, 1898, was united in marriage to Geo. W. Armstrong. To this union were born three children, namely Myron G, Mabel A., and Robert H. Besides these with the sorrowing husband, she also leaves a father, H.L. Taylor of Booneville, Ark., one brother John H. of Chanute, Kan., Mrs. Hattie McDonald of Peoria, Mrs. Lula Pilcher of St. Louis, MO., and Mrs. Jessie Wright of Havana, besides a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church with Rev R.L. Cartwright officiation. (Burial in Chandlerville City Cemetery)

Last Tuesday, William M. Armstrong ceased to battle the trails and troubles of this world. He was a member of the Society of Friends known as Quakers. He never united with any other religions, but gave his money freely to other denominations. His home was known for many years as an orphan asylum for "Uncle" Billy helped many along the way and adopted and brought up several children.
He was born July 23, 1801 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania of Robert and Ann Armstrong. He was a first cousin to General Robert Armstrong and General Burnside.
He married December 4, 1828 in Salem, Ohio to Charlotte Brown who was born August 9, 1803 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nine children were born to them but only Mrs. Harriett VINING is left. He removed at age five to Salem, Ohio. He came to Illinois in 1844 and located at Virginia. In 1845 he purchased the Virginia House which is unoccupied at this time...

Robert Ray Arthalony, 74, of Beardstown died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
He was born December 15, 1933 in Virginia, the son of Raymond and Helen Moles Arthalony.
Surviving is one daughter, Rhonda (husband, Kevin) Milleson of Mackinaw; one son, Robert W. “Rob” (wife, Stephanie) Arthalony of Peoria; his stepson, Robert (wife, Frances) Jensen of Jacksonville; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Raymond Newton.
Mr. Arthalony was a pipefitter and was previously employed by Illinois Barge.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services.
Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Mary M. Ashcraft Services Held
Funeral services for Mary M. Ashcraft were held Friday, June 6, 2008, at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with her son, Rev. John Ashcraft, and Rev. David Natzke of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beardstown officiating. A poem was read by her granddaughter Kiersten Fundle.
Pianist Trish Sager accompanied vocalist Wyatt Sager as he sang "In The Garden," "Shall We Gather at the River," and "Amazing Grace."
Flower girls were Michelle Crabtree, Angie Lakin, Kiersten Fundle, Breann Ashcraft, Kayla Palmer, Susie Bottens, and Shelly Hunnicutt.
Honorary pallbearers were Chris Crabtree, Nathan Palmer, Dillion McNeff, and Tyler Ashcraft.
Pallbearers were Ned Crabtree, Brad Sneeden, Dwight Bennett, Scott Smith, Tom Looker, Doug Knouse and Tom Cooper.

A girl babe was born to Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Ater, Weds. morning. It lived but a few hours after birth. The death of the little one was a sad bereavement to the parents, but it will never know the trials of this life. The funeral occurred Thurs.

Jesse Atwood, December 26, 1944-November 26, 2006
Jesse G. Atwood, 61, of Beardstown, died Tuesday, November 28 at his home.
He was born December 26, 1944 in Hillview, the son of George W. and Pearl Hubler Atwood.
Surviving is his daughter Tamara Atwood, Aurora; his son Finus Atwood, Iowa; four grandchildren, Crissy and Jennifer Atwood and Donald and Timothy Schulz; one great-grandson Michael Anthony Schulz; one sister, Kaffia Crooks, Aurora; and four brothers, Norris Atwood, Chandlerville, Clayton (wife, Doris) Atwood, Aurora, Benjamin Atwood, Colchester, and Rowland Atwood, Kilbourne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, jesse in infancy and Ricky, two brothers, Finus and George, and four sisters, Elsie Davis, Dolly Mobley, Elizabeth Dossett, and Minnie Atwood.
Graveside funeral services for Jesse Atwood were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 5 at Beardstown City Cemetery with Wyatt Sager officiating.
