Earl Bierhaus
   Earl Edward Bierhaus, 74, of R.R. 2, Virginia, died Monday night at his home.
   He was born in Cass County April 28, 1903, a son of Edward and Caroline Schall Bierhaus.
   He married Lucille Cox, who survives.
   Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Edward and M. Richard Bierhaus, both of Virginia; a granddaughter, Theresa Ann Bierhaus of Virginia.
   He lived in the Shiloh community his whole life. He was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 56 years.
   Services will be today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Massie Funeral Home with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
   Memorial gifts may be made to the Shiloh-Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

   M. Lucille Bierhaus, 68, of Virginia, died 1 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
   She was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Cass County, daughter of Thomas and Esther Williams Cox. Her mother survives in Virginia. She married Earl Bierhaus, and he preceded her in death in 1978.
   She is survived by two sons, Ed Bierhaus of Virginia and Richard Bierhaus of Versailles; one grandchild; five brothers, Kenneth Cox and Ralph Cox, both of Virginia, Russell Cox of Beardstown, Charles Cox of Eugene, Ore., and Dean Cox of Jacksonville; three sisters, Bernice Purkey of Danville, Ark., Margaret Chilton of Virginia and Hazel Hish of Chandlerville; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by a sister.
   Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Massie Funeral Home in Virginia with interment in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Virgil Cox, Bill Cox, Kenneth Carl Cox, David Cox (Russell), Dwight Miller, and Nathan Cox. Visitation was from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the sanctuary of the United Methodist Church in Virginia. Memorials are suggested to the Heart Fund or Cancer Fund.

Richard Bierhaus, 1942-2008, Virginia
   Richard Bierhaus, 65, of Virginia, died Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born Aug. 16, 1942, in Beardstown, the son of Earl Edward and Mildred Lucille Cox Bierhaus. He married Mary Mouck on Aug. 16, 1989, at First Baptist Church in Virginia, and she survives.
   He is also survived by one daughter, Tracy of Beardstown; one stepson, Bobby (wife, Jamie) Maltby of Beardstown; one stepdaughter, Linda Ladd (fiancé, Arthur McCulley) of Beardstown; one granddaughter, Lauren Knous of Beardstown; six stepgrandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward.
   Mr. Bierhaus was a 1961 graduate of Virginia High School and served with the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. Following his military service, he farmed in Cass County and worked at M&L Feed Mill. He has been disabled for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Virginia and enjoyed visiting with friends at the Depot Restaurant in Virginia.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Thomas E. "Ed" Bierhaus
   Thomas Edward "Ed" Bierhaus, 53, of rural Virginia died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1992, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
He was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Beardstown, the son of Earl Edward and Mildred Lucille Cox Bierhaus. He married Juanita Butler on Dec. 31, 1985, at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia.
   He is survived by his wife; two stepsons, Dale "Lou" Smith of Menard and Darrell Smith of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Dale (Paula) Kotalik of Tabor, S.D., and Beatrice Holland of Virginia; four stepgrandchildren; one brother, Milton Richard Bierhaus of Virginia; one niece; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one aunt and one uncle.
   He had been employed for 30 years at Cass Veterinary Services in Virginia. He was a member and elder of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he was a former secretary and treasurer of the Sunday School and currently a member of the Finance Committee and Men's Fellowship. He served as a trustee of the Union Neighbors Community Club.
   Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with the Rev. Albert Smith officiating. Organist was Mrs. June Smith. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Pallbearers were Darrell Smith, Dale Kotalik, Dr.Alan Wildt, Glen Goodin, Nathan Cox and Mike Clement.
   Memorials may be made to the Cass County Fair Association.

Helen Louise Bingham, 1913-2007, Beardstown
   Helen Louise Bingham, 93, of Virginia, died early Saturday morning, April 7, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
   She was born Aug. 14, 1913, in Cass County, the daughter of Thomas and Hermina Helen Braun Stock. She married Raymond Howard Bingham on Nov. 24, 1945, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs, and he preceded her in death in 1982.
   She was preceded in death by six brothers, Herman Louis, Junior Thomas, Edwin John (surviving wife, Doris of Beardstown), Ralph Thomas, Glen Arthur and Henry William Stock.
   Mrs. Bingham was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs, where she taught Sunday school and Bible School. She was a member of the Virginia and Bluff Springs Church Friendship Club. She provided housework for many people and loved to garden both flowers and vegetables. She loved all dogs especially her own dog "Moose." She was also a very special sister to her two younger brothers.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluff Springs.    Edgar C. Birch, 69, of Ashland, IL died Monday, February 9, 2009 at his residence.
   He was born February 26, 1939 in Falls of Rough, KY; the son of James Russell and Agnes Rae Kiper Birch. He married Sandra L. Hammack on June 10, 1957 and she survives.
   He is also survived by two sons, Wesley C. Birch (wife, Michelle) of Springfield and Terry L. Birch of Port St. Lucie, FL; four grandchildren, Jennifer Roberts (husband, Jason) of Ashland, Jeremy Birch (wife, Sheila) of Lincoln, Dustin Birch serving with the USMC stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Michael Birch of Springfield; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Swift (husband, Lonnie) of Caneyville, KY, Betty Harvey (husband, Wayne) of Leitchfield, KY, and Diane Geary (husband, Danny) of Caneyville, KY; two brothers, Russell Birch (wife, Hazel) of Sherman and Thomas Birch (wife, Eleanor) of Mason City; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Mr. Birch farmed in the Athens area for several years prior to joining the trucking business. Since 1970, he was been a semi-truck owner and operator until his retirement in June of 2001. During his retirement he has been employed part-time with Prairie International of Springfield and Springfield Tractor Trailer.
   A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and committal services will be held at a later date in Leitchfield, KY.    Donna A. Hish Bird, 64, of Virginia, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 21, 2003, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
She was born March 5, 1939, in Cass County, the daughter of William Jennings Bryan and Ellen Celesta Nelson Hish.
   She is survived by one son, Bryan (wife, Karin) of Discovery Bay, Calif.; four grandchildren, Zach, Bonnie, Joshua and Emily Bird, all of Discovery Bay, Calif.; five brothers, William E. "Everett" (wife, Hazel) Hish of Chandlerville, Dale R. (wife, Frances) Hish of Beardstown, Edgar A., (wife, Evelyn) Hish and Milton F. Hish (wife, Rose), both of Virginia and Jack L. (wife, Elaine) Hish of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
   Mrs. Bird was employed at Johnson & Johnson in Pasadena, Calif. for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and collecting figurines.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Gary Birdsell, 42, of Chandlerville, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, in Cass County.
   He was born Dec. 5, 1964, in Cass County, the son of Fred H. and Maxine Armstrong Birdsell.
   He is survived by his mother, Maxine of Virginia; one son, Rhett of Chandlerville; one brother, James (wife, Christine) of Ashland; and three sisters, Alma (husband, Larry) Schall of Beardstown, Carolyn (husband, J.W.) Rhea of Waukegan and Pat (husband, Don) Bingham of Chandlerville.
   He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Tom and Fred Jr.; and on nephew, Jamie.
   Mr. Birdsell was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in rural Chandlerville and worked as a heating and air conditioning technician. He was a graduate of Chandlerville High School.

Marilyn Joyce Bishop, 1937-2007, Beardstown
   Marilyn Joyce Bishop, 69, of Beardstown, died Monday morning, Jan. 8, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born Nov. 5, 1937, in Meredosia, the daughter of Virgil and Lillie Phillips Allen. She married James J. Bishop on Oct. 26, 1962, in Cass County, and he survives.
   She is also survived by three sons, Gerald (wife, Denise) Behymer and Ernest (wife, Amanda) Bishop, both of Beardstown, and George (wife, Becky) Bishop of Mount Sterling; three daughters, Cynthia Diane Behymer and Shelia (husband, Matt) Brown, both of Beardstown and Nora (husband, Steve) Heiderscheit of Arenzville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd (wife, Bernice) Allen of Tennessee; and one sister, Elsie (husband, Chester) Todd of Meredosia. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Behymer; two brothers and one sister.
   Mrs. Bishop attended the Lighthouse Church in Beardstown. She retired as a dietician from Elmwood Manor in Beardstown after several years of service. She truly loved her family and taking care of them and she also enjoyed fishing and attending ballgames.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Messerer Cemetery near Frederick. The family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.
