BUCK, Casper Jackson - newspaper unknown, October 5, 1883- Submitted by Carol Orwig
   Caspar Jackson Buck died of an abscess at his home near here on Tuesday, September 25 and was buried in the Clark graveyard near Monroe on the next day. Mr. Buck was 46 years old and has always been a resident of Cass County. A wife and four children are left in moderate circumstances.

   Elloise Pickle-Buck, 91 , of Beardstown, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. Elloise was born August 29, 1914 in Beardstown, the daughter of Harry and Daisy Norval Buck.
   Surviving is her brother Robert-Bud-Buck of Beardstown and several nieces and nephews, including Linda Heatherton of rural Effingham.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, and tow sisters Harriet Murray and Genevieve James.
Ms Buck graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1932 and attended State Teachers College in Conway, AK. She was formerly employed with A & P Grocery Stores in Decatur where she assisted opening new stores in the area. From 1942 to 1945 she served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in Georgia. Following her military service she returned to her position with A&P in Decatur and then was employed with Sears in Decatur and Tacoma, WA until her retirement in 1977.
   Services were held at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with burial in the Beardstown City Cemetery.

Robert N. Buck, 1913-2008, Beardstown
   Robert N. Buck, 94, of Beardstown, died Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2008, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   He was born May 9, 1913, in Beardstown, the son of Harry and Daisy Norvell Buck. He married Muriel Rohn on Nov. 8, 1936, in Decatur, and she preceded him in death April 27, 2005.
   He is survived by one son, Don. R. (wife, Linda) of Jerseyville; three grandchildren, Cynthia Betz and Robert and John Buck; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, James Lee in infancy; and three sisters, Elloise Buck, Harriet Murray and Genevieve James.
   Mr. Buck graduated from Beardstown High School in 1932. He started his "working career" for the A&P Grocery Stores in various communities including Decatur and Lewistown, and in 1952 he was employed by the Lewistown Bank. He graduated from Illinois Bankers School at Southern Illinois University in 1960, and in 1961 began his employment with the First State Bank of Beardstown. Hired initially as a teller, he soon became a cashier, and from 1974 until his retirement in 1979, he was its President and CEO. His prior community involvement included serving as president of the Beardstown Park Board, serving on the Industrial Committee of Beardstown Chamber of Commerce, and serving as treasurer for the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. As a hard working leader, family man, and friend to all, he will be sadly missed.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 a.. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. John, son of Cornelius Buckley, died a week ago Sat. at the residence of his parents, from Typhoid Fever. he was born May 27, 1872. The funeral was from the Methodist Church by Rev. Garner with burial in the village cemetery.

   Mark Buckley was born in Lancashire on May 15, 1815, son of John and Elizabeth (LEE) Buckley. He died Mar. 2, 1906 in Cass County. He married Cornelia JOB, Mar. 26, 1850. They were parents of Mrs. Elizabeth Black, Mrs. Alice Turner, Archibald, Franklin and Adeline. He and his brother, John L. Buckley, came to America in 1837 and soon after opened a cabinet shop in Virginia, Cass County, Ill. In 1848. He was engaged in farming. He was a member of First Christian Church.

George E. Bucy Sr., 1926-2007, Beardstown
   George E. Bucy, Sr., 81, of Beardstown, died Thursday, March 15, 2007, at his residence.
   He was born March 9, 1926, in Vermont, Ill., the son of John William and Irma Horner Bucy. He married Lottie Pate and she preceded him in death in 1972. He later married June May DeWitt on July 5, 1974, in Aurora, and she survives.
   He is also survived by three sons George "Bill" of Springfield and James and George Edward (wife, Teresa), both of Beardstown; one granddaughter Brianna Bucy of Beardstown; two brothers Eldon (wife, Bertha) of Vermont, Ill. and John William of Astoria; four sisters, Betty Rickets of Arizona, Dorothy Hughes and June McCormick, both of Rushville, and Vera Brillhart of Williamsville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
   Mr. Bucy was raised in a family of 27 children. long with six of his brothers, he entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. After his years of service in the U.S. Army, he served in the Illinois National Guard in the Springfield area including Camp Lincoln. Upon his retirement in 1981, he was serving as Sergeant First Class and director of the motor pool. He served his country a total of 37 years in the U.S. military. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene in rural Beardstown and he was also a life member of the Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown.
   Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Beardstown City Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to family. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

June May Bucy, 1936-2008, Beardstown
   June May Bucy, 71, of Beardstown, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
   She was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Beardstown, the daughter of Arlie and Cecila Diebold DeWitt. She married George Edward Bucy Sr. on July 5, 1974, in Aurora, and he preceded her in death March 15, 2007.
   She is survived by three sons, George William "Bill" of Springfield and James and George Edward (wife, Teresa), both of Beardstown; one granddaughter, Brianna Bucy; and one sister, Phyllis (husband, Robert) Young of Yorkville. She was preceded in death by one brother, George DeWitt.
   Mrs. Bucy graduated from Beardstown High School in 1955. She moved to Aurora and worked as a draft artist for Barber-Green Drafting Co. She then also worked for the State of Illinois in payroll at the Capital building in Springfield. She also served in the Army National Guard for 12 years until she retired. She then drove the Senior van in Beardstown for a couple of years. She loved her family, painting, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene and VFW Auxiliary.
   Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the family. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

Infant Son died
   Robert Richard infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bullard, died at the family home in this city last Friday. The child was born January 13, 1921 and was but eight days old. Short funeral services were conducted at the residence Friday afternoon by Rev. C.E. French and interment was made in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Norma Jean Burgett, 1936-2008, Beardstown
   Norma Jean Burgett, 71, of Beardstown, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 3, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born Feb. 26, 1936, in Beardstown, the daughter of Arthur and Rozella Eckhardt Rebman. She married James R. Burgett on Aug. 26, 1954, in Beardstown, and he survives.
   She is also survived by two daughters, Patty (husband, Tom) Guy of Union City, Tenn., and Pamela (husband, Allen) Warren of Camden, Tenn.; one son, C.J. of Beardstown; seven grandchildren, Traci Jo (husband, Paul) Cartee, Ryan Guy, Troy and Lindsey Buller, Niki (husband, Matthew) Boatwright, Tyler Warren and Jamey (wife, Clair) Burgett; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Trone of Beardstown and Linda (husband, Danny) McDougal of South Fulton, Ky.; and three brothers, Ted (wife, Kay) Dodds of Frederick, Russell Dodds of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Darwin (wife, Donna) Dodds of Rushville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Lee; and one brother, Jack Rebman.
   Mrs. Burgett graduated from Beardstown High School in 1954, and she was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown. She was employed at Wells-Lamont and later Illinois Glove Factory in Beardstown for 40 years until her retirement.
   Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Larry Burnette, 1945-2007, Beardstown
   Larry J. Burnette, 61, of Savannah, Ga. and formerly of Beardstown, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at his residence.
   He was born Feb.17, 1945, in Mayfield, Ky., the son of Horace Julian and Lydia Lovell Wyatt Burnette. He married Janet Unland Johnson on July 23, 1972, at her parents' residence in Beardstown, and she survives.
   He is also survived by his mother of Paducah, Ky.; one son, Gary (wife, April) Johnson of Perry, Ga.; one daughter, Michelle (husband, Mark) Harless of Benton, Ky.; six grandchildren, Jessica, Amber and Caitlin Harless, Nathan and Lydia Johnson and Eric Eldridge; one brother, Dwayne (wife, Kathy) of Paducah, Ky. He was preceded in death by his father; one daughter, Christy Eldridge; and one grandson, Samuel Johnson.
   Mr. Burnette graduated from Lone Oak High School in Paducah, Ky., and attended Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown and currently attended Islands' Christian Church in Wilmington Island, Ga. He was presently employed as a site manager for the resort community of Palmetto Bluff Plantation in Bluffton, S.C. He was previously employed with Culligan as a water analyst and also with Medicare Equipment and Supply. He loved music and was an accomplished musician. He enjoyed gospel music and was instrumental in the organization of the Beardstown gospel group "Promise" in which he played the piano and sang.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery.    Al Burracker, son of Phillip Burracker of near Little Indian was drug by a horse in an accident and died Sat. Feb. 3rd. He was 22 years old.

E. Marie Burrus, 85, of Arenzville, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.
   She was born Aug. 5, 1922, near Newmansville, the daughter of John Herman and Eula Belle Stiltz Jurgens. She married Robert L. Burrus on Dec. 14, 1946, in Petersburg, and he preceded her in death Nov. 5, 2006.
   She is survived by one son, Lee of Arenzville; one sister, Ruth (husband, Kenneth) Dobbe of Pleasant Plaines, one brother, Floyd (wife, Lois) Jurgens of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alberta Balster, Louise Himmel, and Elizabeth Foste.
   Mrs. Burrus was a graduate of Virginia High School and graduated from Passavant Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She received specialized training in children’s care in Milwaukee and training in emergency room nursing and surgery at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Schmitt Hospital in Beardstown prior to her marriage. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Chapin, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Mary Martha Circle and L.W.M.L.
   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Chapin, with burial at Arenzville North Cemetery in Arenzville. Frances D. Burrus, 1917-2008, Virginia
   Frances D. Burrus, 90, of Virginia, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at the Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born July 31, 1917 in Morgan County, the daughter of Howard and Martha Edna Giger Maddox. She married Clifford L. Burrus on June 21, 1940 in Jacksonville, and he preceded in death on Nov. 9, 1982.
   She is survived by one son, Ronnie (wife, Lenabelle) Burrus, of rural Jacksonville; two daughters, Barbara (husband, Charles) Ring of rural Virginia and Beverly (husband, Roy) Halstenberg of rural Chapin; seven grandchildren, Kevin (wife, Mary) Ring of Virginia, Brian (wife, Laura) Burrus of Arenzville, Amy (husband, Jim) Becker of Peoria, Deborah (husband, David) Koenen of Park Ridge, Gregg (wife, Missy) Burrus of Jacksonville, Stephanie (husband, Jim) Molster of Arlington Heights, and Suzanne (husband, Rob) Smith of Auburn; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ellen Louise Webster.
   Mrs. Burrus was a graduate of Virginia High School and Brown’s Business College in Jacksonville. She was a dedicated farm wife with a special talent for furniture refinishing and antique restoration. She was a member of Cass County Home Extension and the Virginia United Methodist Church. Her life was dedicated to loving and caring for her family and she deeply valued time spent with her family.
   Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Virginia United Methodist Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Robert L. Burrus, 1919-2006, Arenzville
   Robert L. Burrus, 87, of Arenzville, died Sunday Nov. 5, 2006, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born Aug. 3, 1919, in Arenzville, the son of Roy and Hala Kappal Burrus. He married E. Marie Jurgens on Dec. 14, 1946, in Petersburg, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Lee Burrus of rural Arenzville.
   Mr. Burrus was a lifelong farmer in the Arenzville community, and was associated with Burrus Seed Farms from 1946-72. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, served on the board of directors of First National Bank in Arenzville for 34 years, and had been a member of the Morgan County Extension. Earlier in life, he had been an umpire for the Arenzville Softball League. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Chapin, with burial at Arenzville North Cemetery. Catherine Butler, 1908-2007, Ashland
   Catherine "Kitty" Butler, 99, of Ashland, died Monday morning, Nov. 19, 2007, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born Feb. 23, 1908, in Pleasant Plains, the daughter of John Paul and Nelle Mitchel Fetzer. She married Homer C. Butler in 1926 in Pleasant Plains, and he preceded her in death Jan. 1, 2001.
   She is survived by four grandchildren, Marcia Daffin of Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Catherine Coppolillo of Milwaukee, Dr. Peter Coppolillo of Lunda, Tanzania and Robert Coppolillo of Boulder, Colo.; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Huston and Ruthann Coppolillo; and three sisters.
   Mrs. Butler was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge and baking. She was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church.
   Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland, with burial at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services. BUXTON, Dr. Albert J. - Anderson Herald, Madison, IN, July 28, 1930 - Submitted by Carol Orwig
   Dr. Albert J. Buxton, age 68, for 16 years a practicing physician in Anderson, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the family residence, 1303 Hendricks Street, following a ten week's illness.
   Dr. Buxton suffered a stroke o paralysis at his office in the Decker block last May and had been in serious condition since.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the residence with the Rev. H.C. Schlarb, pastor of the First United Brethren Church, in charge.
   Surviving is the widow, Mrs. Tacie Buxton, a sister Mrs. Warren Smith of Dayton, Ohio and a brother Frank Buxton of Indianapolis.
   Dr. Buxton was born near Celina, Ohio and spent his early life in Ohio. He was a graduate of Sterling Medical College at Columbus, Indiana and practiced for several years at Kennard before coming to Anderson. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the United Brethren Church.

   Charles Ernest Buxton, Sr. age 82 of Mt. Sterling, IL passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Heritage manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling.
   He was born July 3, 1925 in Brown County, Illinois the son of William Cleveland and Edith Ada Smith Buxton. He married Mary L. Lashbrook on September 16, 1930 in Mt. Sterling, IL and she preceded him in death on October 13, 2001.
   Survivors include four children: Cindy (husband John) Thompson, Judy (husband Wayne) Wagner, Ernie (wife Debbie) Buxton and Charla (husband Scott) Meyers all of Mt. Sterling. Fourteen grandchildren, Kimberly Winfield, Kara Colgan, Jeremy Hester, Adam Thompson, Josh Hester, Darren Wagner, Eric Wagner, Mark Wagner, Lisa Wagner, Gary Wagner, Schott Hall, Deana Metz, Curtis Buxton, Mandy Fink; six great grandchildren, Mercedes and Madison Galloway, Macy Winfield, Adalyn Wagner and Wyatt and Jayden Fink also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents.
   He attended Liberty School in Brown County. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served his country in the United States Army.
   Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14 in the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Einhouse officiating.
   Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery with a military service conducted at the graveside.
   The Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling is in charge of the arrangements.

BUXTON, Henry - Chandlerville Times, September 5, 1902 - Submitted by Carol Orwig - Commits suicide Saturday by taking Strychnine
   Henry Buxton committed suicide at his home about four miles from Newmansville last Saturday morning by drinking strychnine. He had his left arm shot off about two years ago and it had never healed up and this is thought to be one of his reasons for committing the deed. He procured some strychnine in Virginia and Saturday morning about eleven o'clock he poured it into a bottle of whiskey and while standing near the house he drank it, and within twenty minutes was dead. Coroner Cummings was telephoned for at Beardstown, but as he could not come he set Esq. Henry Jacobs from Virginia, who came and the inquest was held about one o'clock Saturday night. The jury returned a verdict that the deceased had come to his death from strychnine poisoning administered by his own hand.
   The deceased was born In Beardstown and was 50 years 3 months and 25 days old and leaves a wife and four children, two boys and tow girls. He was a brother of James Buxton who at one time lived in this city. The funeral services were held at Mt. Olive Sunday afternoon, Rev. Wm Hughett officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

   Virginia- Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Tacie Buxton, a former resident and widow of the late Dr. Albert Buxton. Mrs. Buxton passed away at Anderson, IN, and the remains will be brought to this city for interment at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, where services will be held at the grave side. Relatives in this vicinity are a sister-in-law Mrs. Amos Buxton, a niece Mrs. Laura Schall and a nephew Albert Buxton.

   Milton Buxton died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hurt, in the Philadelphia neighborhood Sunday. Funeral services where held Tuesday morning from the Christian church, Rev. J.W. Carpenter of the local Christian church officiating and interment was made in the Robertson burying ground. The deceased was born January 1, 1883. He was an adopted child.
