   Robert E. Flood, 58, of Beardstown died Monday evening, June 16, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   He was born November 14, 1949 in Evanston, the son of John H. and Patricia Joy Flood. He married Rose Ann Medford on June 9, 1973 in Clyde, North Carolina and she survives in Beardstown.
   Also surviving is his stepmother, June Flood of Springfield; his son John Flood of Lewistown; his daughter Jamie Flood of Charleston; his sister Collette (husband, George) James of Springfield; two stepsisters: Caren (husband, Bruce) Melton of Petersburg and Chris Heavisides of Springfield; one stepbrother, Tom (wife Lindy) Heavisides of New Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents and one stepsister Carol LaFevre (surviving husband, Ron of California).
   Mr. Flood graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1967 and from Haywood Technical College in N.C. in 1971. He returned to Beardstown with is wife in 1974 and was employed at Cass Hardwoods until he began his career with Beardstown Police Department in 1977 as a patrolman. He served as Chief of Police from 1986 until 1990, retired from the force in 2000, and served as a dispatcher for Cass County 911 from 2001 until 2008. During his service to the citizens of Beardstown and Cass County, Mr. Flood was instrumental in initiating the D.A.R.E. program within the schools and he previously served as Beardstown Fall Festival Parade Chairman and as a volunteer fireman. He was a member of Cass Lodge #23 AF & AM and First United Methodist Church of Beardstown. He enjoyed photography and reporting for WRMS radio and Star-Gazette newspaper in Beardstown.
   Memorial services for Bob Flood will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. Sager Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

   Cora P. Force, 90, of Beardstown, IL and formerly of Chandlerville, IL died Friday, August 21, 2009 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown.
   She was born February 5, 1919 in Mason County, IL; the daughter of Oliver P. and Margaret Mae Guntermann McDaniel. She married Melvin L. Force on January 29, 1938 in Palmyra, MO and he preceded in death in 1980.
   She is survived by two sons, Wayne Force (wife, Peggy) of Virginia and Jerry Force (wife, Jean) of Beardstown; six grandchildren, Rick Force (wife, Suzanne), Pamela Sargent (husband, Edward), Darrin Force, Robert Force (wife, Jodi), Michelle Hamann (husband, Joe), and Becky Wydell (husband, Chris); 11 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Eugene Force in infancy; four brothers, Orlin Duwayne in infancy, Vernon, Jess and Roy McDaniel; and six sisters, Ollie Shoemaker, Ethel Neely, Eunice Hodgson, Edna Davis, Maudie Collins, and Pauline Griffie.
   Mrs. Force worked at Kordite in Jacksonville for 10 years and later at the Holiday Inn in Jacksonville for several years. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she loved caring for little children and often provided babysitting services for area families. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County.
   Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Bethel Baptist Church, north of Chandlerville, with burial in Bethel Cemetery. Jonathan T. Force, 1923-2008, Virginia
   Jonathan T. Force, 84, of Virginia, and formerly of Chandlerville, died Saturday evening, Feb. 23, 2008, at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown, from age related illness.
   He was born Nov. 16, 1923 in Chandlerville; the son of William "Bill" and Ruby Pearl Mason Force. He married Lorna Jean Dawson on April 22, 1950, in Pickett, Ark., and she preceded in death June 3, 2007.
   He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Gay Force of Jacksonville and Vickie Sue (husband, Dan) Anderson of Springfield, Mo.; one son, Mark Anthony (wife, Sheila) Force of Virginia; a son by a previous marriage, Tommie (wife, Norie) Alaimo of Pittsview, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Terry Jon (wife, Angie) Anderson of Springfield, Mo., James Cody (wife, Chrissy) Anderson of Springfield, Mo., Shawn Michael (wife, P.J.) Force of Jacksonville, Renee (husband, Charles) Hagloch of Washington, Anthony Knight Force of Virginia, Tommie Jr. (Wife, Jeannie) Alaimo of Long Island, N.Y., and Kayla (husband, Jimmie) Harris of Marseilles; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Wayne; one grandson, Mark Daniel; three brothers, Russell, Virgil "Butch", and Robert; and one sister, Budella Force Babb.
   Mr. Force was devoted to his family and a friend to many in surrounding communities. His love of hunting is legendary as he is best known to many as the "man who bagged the first legal deer in Illinois during 1957."
   He was also an avid duck hunter and served as a duck hunting guide for Barkhausen Hunting Lodge in Mason County. He was a frequent guest of the Deer and Turkey Classic each year and was honored by its promoters for his contribution to future deer hunters. He was also a fisherman and amateur archaeologist. He has donated many artifacts to Dickson Mounds and helped locate several Indian burial mounds in Cass County. He was know for his excellent carpentry skills, having built several homes in the area. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II in the European Theater. A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was a member of VFW Post 1239 of Beardstown and a former commander of the Virginia VFW Post.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial in Chandlerville Cemetery.    Lorna Jean Dawson Force, 75, of Virginia, and formerly of Chandlerville, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown.
   She was born Feb. 6, 1932 in Virginia, the daughter of Iola Boyd Dawson Fanning and Loren Cody Dawson Sr. She married Jonathan T. Force on April 22, 1950 in Pickett, Ark., and he survives.
   She is also survived by two daughters, Gloria Gay Force of Jacksonville and Vickie Sue Force (husband, Dan) Anderson of Willard, Mo.; one son, Mark Anthony (wife, Sheila) of Virginia; five grandchildren, Terry Jon (wife, Angie) and James Cody (wife, Chrissy) Anderson of Springfield, Mo., Shawn Michael (wife, P.J.) Force of Jacksonville, Renee (husband, Charles) Hagloch of Washington, Ill., and Anthony Knight Force of Virginia; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Loren Junior (wife, Evelyn) Dawson of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death one son, Terry Wayne; one grandson, Mark Daniel Force; and one sister in infancy.
    Mrs. Force was a 1950 graduate of Virginia High School and was formerly employed at Capitol Records in Jacksonville. Her many accomplishments in life included her volunteer work with I-SEARCH where she was lovingly remembered as the "Grandmother of I-SEARCH". She also served on the board of directors for the Women’s Crisis Center and the Youth Attention Center in Jacksonville and the TOGETHER WE CAN organization in Virginia. She was loved by many area children as "Nanny," their faithful caregiver. Her home was an open door to many and a tasty home cooked meal was always on the table. She was a former member of the Faith Baptist Church in Virginia and the Beardstown VFW Post #2127 Ladies Auxiliary.
   Funeral services will be held 11a.m Tuesday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Chandlerville Cemetery. Visitation will one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. A luncheon for family and friends will be held following graveside services at the Chandlerville American Legion building.    Edna Mae Russell Fox, 90, of Virginia, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2003, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   She was born April 6, 1913, in Cass County, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Florence Newman Russell. She married James Russell Fox and he preceded her in death June 7, 1978.
   She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Lucas of Springfield; six grandchildren, Richard A. (wife, Carolyn) Fox of Springfield, Pamela Fox of Springfield, Juanita (husband, Mark) Jones of Loami, Sean (wife, Rebecca) Bertoux of Rushville, Marshan (husband, Patrick) DeCook of Davenport, Iowa, and Charles (wife, Amanda) Lucas of Champaign; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Fox in 1967; and two sisters, Mary Watkins and Dorothy Nicholson.
   Mrs. Fox was a graduate of Virginia High School, a homemaker, and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Virginia.

   Jessie Mae Fox, 84, of Virginia, died Saturday morning, Feb. 7, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Virginia, the daughter of Charles Kellogg and Jessie Mae Kikendall McDaniel. She married Robert W. Fox Nov. 9, 1941, in Oakwood, Mo., and he survives.
   She is also survived by one daughter, Donna Rae of Virginia; four sons, Robert J. "Jerry" (wife, Peggy) of Tuscola, Dale (wife, Marilyn) and Gale (wife, Martha), both of Virginia, and Roger (companion, Tammy Williams) of Literberry; six grandchildren, Michael Fox, Amanda Lear, Sara McGlasson, Sherry Cluney, Brian Fox and Holly Fox; six great-grandsons; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Glenn Ray, Cecil Ray, Vernon Ray, Charles Raymond McDaniel and one brother infancy; and three sisters, Marguerite Roach, Erma Dreher and one sister in infancy.
   Mrs. Fox was a 1938 graduate of Virginia High School and a homemaker.

   Max C. Fox, 74, of Virginia, died Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2003, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.
He was born July 11, 1928, in Cass County, the son of James E. and Atha Cline Fox.
   He is survived by two brothers, James (wife, Kay) of Virginia and Robert (wife, Jessie Mae) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. Fox was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois and served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an assistant farm advisor and later joined the DeKalb Bank & Trust in DeKalb. He later served as an officer for Soy Capitol Bank in Decatur for many years prior to his retirement in 1983, when he moved back to Virginia.

   Mrs. Paralee Fox, a long time resident of this city, died Friday at the residence of Mrs. Martha Gore, where she had made her home for some time. Deceased was born in this city, a daughter of Mar. and Mrs. Jerry Cox, and had spent her entire life here. She was the widow of Martin Fox, who died some years ago, together with their two sons Albert and John Fox. She is survived by one brother, George Clay Cox of Rochester, NY.
   Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the M.E. church, Rev. A.A. Luce officiating. Interment was made in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

   Robert W. Fox, 85, of Virginia, died Monday evening, March 13, 2006, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Cass County, the son of James E. and Atha Cline Fox. He married Jessie Mae McDaniel on Nov. 9, 1941, in Oakwood, Mo., and she preceded him in death Feb. 7, 2004.
   He is survived by one daughter, Donna Rae Fox of Virginia; four sons, Robert J. "Jerry" (wife, Peggy) of Tuscola, Dale (wife, Marilyn) and Gale (wife, Martha), both of Virginia, and Roger (companion, Tammy Williams) of rural Ashland; six grandchildren, Michael (wife, Keri) Fox of Literberry, Amanda Lear of Virginia, Sara (husband, Corey) McGlasson of Virginia, Sherry (husband, Doug) Cluney of Chatham, Brian (wife, Erynn) Fox of Athens, and Holly Fox of Virginia; six great-grandsons; several step-great-grandchildren; one brother, James R. (wife, Kay) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Max C.; and a grandson-in-law, Chris Lear.
   Mr. Fox was a 1938 graduate of Virginia High School and was engaged in farming for many years. He also was employed 20 years as a feed mill operator for Cass County Service Co. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 916 of Springfield. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and gardening.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia.    Wilma Jean Fox, 53, of Thayer, Illinois, died at 5:25 p.m., Sunday, May 17, at her residence.
On October 24, 1964, she married Martin W. Fox in Springfield, who survives.
   She was employed as a secretary at the Magna Bank in Springfield for over 15 years and was a graduate of Chandlerville High School with the Class of 1962.
   Preceding in her death was a sister, Lois Pherigo, in 1996.
   Surviving are her husband, Martin W. Fox of Thayer; two sons, Shawn E. of Thayer and Michael W. of Springfield; her parents, William E. and Hazel Hish of Chandlerville; a sister, Rose Brockhouse of Kirkwood, Illinois; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
   Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Berry Funeral Home in Virden with the Rev. Jerry Divjak officiating. Burial was in Virden Cemetery.

William Robert 'Tobe' Frank, 1923-2006, Beardstown
   William Robert "Tobe" Frank, 83, of Beardstown, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 1, 2006, at his residence.
   He was born July 29, 1923, in Virginia, the son of John and Alta Mae Spicer Frank. He married Jeannie Harris on Nov. 4, 1948, and she preceded him in death July 4, 1999.
   He is survived by one son, Dave (wife, Carolyn) of Arenzville; one daughter, Cindy (husband, Jim) Frye of Quincy; four grandchildren, Dale (wife, Jami) Frank of Beardstown, Dan (wife, Emily) Frank of Mount Sterling, Gwen (husband, Kenny) Coffey of St. Joseph and Brent (wife, Amanda) Frye of Philo; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie, John, Jerry, Albert "Hunk" and Louis; and four sisters, Kate Conner, Dorothy Shelton, Mary Conner and Erma Deacon.
   Mr. Frank served in the U.S. Army in India during World War II. He was previously employed with International Harvester in Canton and Delta Tank in Beardstown and he formerly owned and operated the "Sazarac" in Beardstown.
   Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Browning Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

   Gertrude Thelma Frashier, 95, of Beardstown died Monday, December 18, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
   Graveside funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 21, at Beardstown City Cemetery with Rev. Albert Smith of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Virginia officiating.
Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

Jackie D. "Jack" French 1930-2000
   Jackie D. "Jack" French, 70, of Virginia, died Friday morning, July 21, 2000 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
   He was born March 19, 1930, in Peoria, the son of David D. and Marie L. Shaurette French. He married Julia Cox August 23, 1953, in Virginia, and she survives.
   He is also survived by a son, Davey (wife, Becky) of Virginia; a daughter, Julie Ackerman of Virginia; four grandchildren; two brothers, Roy (wife, Barbara) of Virginia and Bill (wife, Patricia) of Clayton; two sisters, Doris McKenzie (husband, Earl) and Delores Boice (husband, Donald) both of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews.
   Mr. French was a 1948 graduate of Virginia High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, stationed in Panama with the Amphibious Support Regiment of the 370th Combat Engineers. He was a building contractor in the Virginia area for longer than 50 years. He was a longtime dealer and builder for Homeway Homes, which later became Walnut Custom Homes. He served as photographer for the Cass County Coroner and Sheriff's Department for 21 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia and a former member of the Sangamon Valley Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia.
   An active outdoorsman, Mr. French enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife and family. He served as a Hunter Safety Instructor for 24 years. He also enjoyed writing about the outdoors and had several articles published in national publications.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

   Viola Louise Parks French, 95, of Beardstown, died Wednesday morning Oct. 4, 2006, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   She was born Dec. 13, 1910, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Charles Allen and Nellie Henderson Parks. She married Merrill French on November 19, 1927, in Crown Point, IN and he preceded her in death January of 1987.
   She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd, Charles, John, and Glen and two sisters, Mable Taylor and Byrel Bennett.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
   Mrs. French attended Beardstown Schools and was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Beardstown. She worked as a farmer’s wife, housekeeper, babysitter, and a worker in a candy factory, coat factory, greenhouse, laundry service where she pressed white shirts, and a school cafeteria in Winnamac, IN. She worked as a housekeeping supervisor in a facility for the mentally impaired then in her later years picked blueberries near Holland, Michigan for 12 years. Viola was a member of the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice and was particularly proud to serve as a hospice caregiver; she was one of the first volunteers in Cass County.
   Funeral services for Viola French were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Beardstown with Mike Courson officiating. A poem was read by Lynne O'Hara.
   Pianist Trish Sager accompanied vocalist Wyatt Sager as he hang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Just As I Am," and "Beyond the Sunset."
   Pallbearers were Terry Bell, Tim Bell, Tom Bell, Mark O'Hara, Kenny O'Hara, Jr., Mike Cooper, Butch Cooper, Joe Taylor, Doug Taylor, and Glen Parks.
Burial was in the Beardstown City Cemetery.
   Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.

FRICKE, Henry - Beardstown Illinoian Star, Mar. 6, 1903
   Henry Fricke, respected resident of the Meredosia bottoms and until recently Postmaster at Lyddia Postoffice, died Thursday, age ninety two. He has five living children, William of Meredosia bottoms, Herman of MO., Mrs. John Roegge of Arenzville, Mrs. William Roegge of Meredosia Lake, and Mrs. Farke of MO. The funeral will be at the homestead Sunday at 1 p.m.

   Renata Louise Fricke, 97, of Arenzville, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
   She was born March 15, 1911, in Arenzville, the daughter of George H. and Louise Heine Lovekamp. She married Homer Fricke on April 7, 1931, in Arenzville, and he preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1992. She is survived by one son, Richard (wife, Mary Ann) Fricke of Ottawa; one daughter, Althea (husband, David) Carls of Arenzville; eight grandchildren, Rodney Fricke (friend, Julie Friedman) of Sacramento, Calif., Beth Krug (friend, Jeff King) of Cartersville, Ga., Sherry Medellin of Laredo, Texas, Rhonda (husband, Brad) Johnson of Ottawa, Leesa (husband, Dave) Tobiasz of Lake Zurich, Steve (wife, Susan) Carls of Beardstown, Drew (wife, Jennifer) Carls and Marc (wife, Tina) Carls, both of Arenzville; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Otto, Theodore, Walter and Werner Lovekamp; and six sisters, Bertha and Anna Kleinschmidt, Alma Lovekamp, Lorna Roegge, Marie Schubert and Louise Weide.
   Mrs. Fricke was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville and was active in the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and later in life, the company of her friend and caregiver, Charlotte Hull.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Ruth Charlotte Fricke, 1917-2007, Arenzville
   Ruth Charlotte Fricke, 90, a longtime Arenzville resident, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Barton Stone Home in Jacksonville.
    She was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Morgan County near Meredosia, the daughter of John F. and Elizabeth Russwinkle Heitbrink. She married Orval H. Fricke on June 8, 1952, in Meredosia and he preceded her in death Apr. 26, 2006.
   She is survived by two sons, Roger (wife, Sandra) of Chapin and Ronald (wife, Penny) of Waverly; and five grandchildren; Jason (wife, Dana) Fricke of Jacksonville, Jenna (husband, Jamie) Curry of Mt. Zion, Jacob Fricke of Chapin, and Alexandria Fricke and Tyson Fricke, both of Waverly. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Owen Heitbrink (surviving wife, Lorene of Quincy), Alvin Heitbrink, Orville Heitbrink (surviving wife, Aileen of Jacksonville) and Fred Heitbrink; and three sisters, Corrine, in infancy, Esther Berghaus and Della Jording.
   Mrs. Fricke was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Trinity Ladies Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery east of Meredosia.    Henry C. Funk, a former prominent Cass county farmer, died at nine o'clock Sunday morning at Our Savior's hospital in Jacksonville, at the age of 71 years.
   The decedent is survived by his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Long Funk, three sons, Charles and Victor, at home and Harry of Chicago; one daughter Mrs. Loy Cox, Chicago, 1 sister Mrs. Mary Crawford of Arenzville and a host of friends.
   The remains were removed to the J.H. Massie funeral home and later taken to the residence seven miles southwest of here.
   Funeral services were held at the residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Wayne Tolson officiating. Interment was made in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
