Gerald M. ‘Tate’ Grady, 1940-2006, Beardstown
Gerald M. "Tate"Grady, 65, of Beardstown, died Sunday morning, Oct. 8, 2006 at Heritage Manor in Mount Sterling.
He was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Versailles, the son of Norman and Bernice Dietrich Grady.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Anna Mae Surratt of Beardstown; one son, Chuckie of Meredosia; one sister, Janet Louise Calisi of New York; two nephews; and several cousins.
Mr. Grady attended school in Versailles. He loved to ride motorcycles.
Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hersman Cemetery near Mount Sterling. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown.

Larry L. Grammer, 1939-2008, Virginia
Larry L. Grammer, 68, of Virginia, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born Nov. 6, 1939, in Granite City, the son of Ernest and Esther Arnett Grammer. He married Dr. Graciela Quintero on June 23, 1972, in Springfield, and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Celeste of Country Club Hills; a brother, Gary (wife, Susan) of Alton; two nieces; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Mr. Grammer was a disability adjudicator for the State of Illinois for 25 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Virginia United Methodist Church and a former member of the Illinois National Guard and the Virginia Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. He enjoyed playing chess and participated in the area chess clubs. An avid reader, he enjoyed collecting books.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Virginia United Methodist Church. The family will meet with friends at he church from 9:30 a.m. Monday until time of services and following services. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon. Doshala Kay Knight Graves, 1982-2006, Beardstown
Doshala Kay Knight Graves, 24, of Beardstown, died Thursday, November 9, 2006, following a car accident in Cass County.
She was born May 29, 1982, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Gerald and Tina Swann Knight Jr. She married Marion "Bud" Graves Jr., and they were later divorced.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, who raised her, Steve and Tina James of Arenzville; father and stepmother, Gerald and Kim Knight Jr. of Quincy; her ex-husband of Waverly; one son, Trenton at home; two daughters, Coya and Zoe, both at home; two sisters, Meaka Knight (companion, Kevin Stephenson) of Jacksonville and Tanista Knight of Arenzville; maternal grandparents, Judy Swann of O'Fallon and Kenneth and Laura Swann of Farmington, N.M.; paternal grandfather, Gerald Knight Sr. of Jacksonville; stepgrandparents, Bob and Ann Kerker of Huntsville and Ed James of Havana; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Winchester with the Rev. David Reid officiating. Various recorded selections were played. Pallbearers were Jerry Knight, Tom Sturgeon, Cliff James, Jeremy Stief, Chad Holder and Ernie Wheeler. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bluffs. Memorials are suggested to the family. Alma M. Greenwood, 1917-2007, Beardstown
Alma M. Greenwood, 89, of Beardstown, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Beardstown, the daughter of Ernest and Mathilda Tritsch Schlueter. She married Ernest Greenwood on Feb. 16, 1963, in Fairfield, and he preceded her in death June 28, 1993.
She is survived by one step-son, Elsworth (wife, Barbara) Greenwood of Fairfield; two brothers, Arthur (wife, Norma Jean) Schlueter of Beardstown and Martin Schlueter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four sisters, Mary McCarty and Emma (husband, Ronald) Fisher, both of Beardstown, Pauline Rach of Bridgeman, Mich., and Melba (husband, John L.) Horrer of Tucson, Ariz.
Mrs. Greenwood was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown where she was baptized on Dec. 16, 1917, and she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville on March 20, 1932. She was formerly employed at Schmidt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown for 20 years and she operated Ruth and Alma's Beauty Shop in Beardstown for three years. After she married she and her husband moved to Fairfield until 1980 when they returned to Beardstown.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown, with burial at Arenzville North Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

Pauline I. Griffie - 1922-2003 Chandlerville
Pauline I. Griffie, 81, of rural Chandlerville, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2003, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
She was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Mason County, the daughter of Oliver P. and Margaret Mae Gunterman McDaniel. She married Paul Griffie on May 4, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo., and he preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1978.
She is survived by one son, James (wife, Darlene) of Chandlerville; one daughter, Mary (husband, Eugene) Eilers of Chandlerville; four grandchildren, Michael Griffie (wife, Roberta) of Chandlerville, Lori Ann Eilers of Jacksonville, Nichole Rhinehart (husband, Allan) of Chandlerville and Bradley Eilers (wife, Christi) of Ashland; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy McDaniel of Mineral Wells, Texas; two sisters, Cora Force of Virginia and Maudie Collins of Chandlerville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie McDaniel, Vernon McDaniel, and in infancy Orlan Dwayne McDaniel; and four sisters, Ethel Neely, Edna Davis, Eunice Hodgson and Ollie Force.
Mrs. Griffie was a homemaker and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church north of Chandlerville, with burial at Bethel Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Richard E. Guffey
Richard E. Guffey, 70 years, of Ashland, IL died Tuesday morning, April 1, 2003 at his residence.
He was born August 9, 1932 in rural Ashland, the son of General A. and Grace Geneva Ratliff Guffey. He married Pat Harris May 4, 1979 in Springfield, and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Richard A. of Ashland; a step-son, Larry Leonhard of Ashland; two step grandchildren, Michael and Lindsey Leonhard; two brothers, Paul A. (wife, Ora) of Ashland and Lee E. (wife, Anna) of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step son, John Leonhard; and 3 brothers, Hubert Guffey and in infancy, Robert and Floyd Guffey.
Mr. Guffey served with the US Army from 1950-1952 and began his career as an electrician with Ashland Electric Company. He later joined Springfield Local #193 IBEW working as a union electrician until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed trading and restoring old cars and was well known for his wonderful sense of humor.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Ashland Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Deutsch officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Ashland. Memorials are suggested to the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department or MECCA Paramedics.
