   Mrs. Margery Elizabeth Kilby, 86, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 24, at Passavant Hospital.
   She was born in Cass County April 6, 1899, daughter of William John and Mary Ellen Unland Higginson. She attended Virginia Schools and graduated from Eureka College in 1922. A home economics and science teacher, she taught several years at Hopedale High School in Tazewell County. She married Glenn Matlock Kilby June 11, 1924, in St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death May 12, 1949, as did a son, Robert Ellsworth, Nov. 27, 1955; and a brother, William Ledru, June 10, 1981.
   Survivors include a son, William S, of Virginia; five grandchildren, Mrs. Glenda Perry of Petersburg, Deborah Kilby of Virginia; Mrs. Nancy Smith of Ashland, William R. and Robert T. of Virginia. Three great-grandchildren, Heather Perry of Petersburg, and Joshua and Shannon Smith of Ashland also survive.
   Mrs. Kilby was a member of the Virginia Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, Capsule Sisters and was a 50-year member of the Adah Robinson Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
   Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Virginia Christian Church with interment in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Unland, Ed Jurgens, Bob Harrison, ___Snow, Bill Yaple, and Milton Hish. Visitation was held at Massie Funeral Home from __ - 8 p.m. Wednesday.
   Memorials are suggested to the Virginia Christian Church or Jenny Marr Dunaway Memorial Park or Masonic Eastern Star Building Fund in Virginia.

   Hannah Davis was born in Cass County, Illinois, July 26, 1842, departed this life at her home on Tuesday, August 15, 1922 in Harrisonville, MO, at the age of 80 years and 20 days.
   She was the first daughter of and third child of Elijah and Elizabeth Davis and on May 12, 1864 she was married to Nelson L. Kimbrell in Meredosia, Morgan Co., IL. To this union seven children were born as follows: Benjamin E. Kimbrell, Freewater, OR; Mrs. Charles I. (Joah) Colville, Coleman, MO; and Mrs. Gertrude Denny and Miss Dora Kimbrell, both of Harrisonville, MO; Hattie E. And John Kimbrell preceded their mother in death as did her husband, Nelson L. Kimbrell, who died on July 23, 1926. Besides the living children, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Dobson of Harrisonville and two brothers, C.R. Davis of Peculiar, MO. And D.M. Davis of Harrisonville. Also she is survived by 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held at her late home on Wednesday, August 16 with burial in Wills Cemetery, near Peculiar, MO.

   Nelson L. Kimbrell, one of Cass County's highly esteemed citizens, died at his home on West Mechanic Street in Harrisonville, on Friday afternoon, July 23, 1920. Mr. Kimbrell had been a great sufferer for several months past, and his death was not altogether unexpected by his family and many friends.
   Nelson L. Kimbrell was born in Johnson County, Indiana, on May 31, 1839, and was at the time of his death, 81 years, 1 month and 22 days of age. He was the second son and fourth child of Benjamin E. and Katie Kimbrell. We do not know just what year he came to Missouri but he was engaged in farming, until a few years ago, when he retired from farming and moved to Harrisonville, where he made his home until his death.
   On May 12, 1864, he was married to Hannah Davis in Meredosia, Morgan County, Illinois, and to this union SEVEN children were born--three sons and four daughters--as follows: William L. Kimbrell of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; Benjamin E. Kimbrell of Freewater, Oregon; Mrs. Charles C. (Joah) Colville of Coleman, Missouri. and Mrs. Gertrude Denny and Miss Dora Kimbrell, who were at the home of their parents. Katie E. and John Kimbrell preceded their father in death. Besides the living children, he is survived by his aged and faithful companion in life, two sisters, Mrs. John Davis and Mrs. Fannie Davis, of Purdon, Texas, 22 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who sincerely mourn their loss.
   In December, 1891, he united with the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized by Elder W. R. Storms. He was ordained as a Deacon of that church in 1910 and filled that office to the satisfaction of the church, his faith in Jesus always being manifests by a humble, meek and lowly spirit, endearing himself to the church and to his friends.
   Funeral services were held at the family home in Harrisonville, on Sunday, July 25, at 2:30 o'clock p. m. and were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. W. L Hall, of Blue Springs, Missouri. The large crowd that was in attendance attested the high esteem in which he was held by his neighbors and friends. His body was taken to the Wills Cemetery, near Peculiar, this county, where it was laid away under a bower of flowers, to await a Better Day, when there will be no parting--By his Pastor, W. L. Hall, Blue Springs. Missouri.

   A MOTHER DEAD
Mrs. Eleanora King, For Many Years a Resident of Cass County died at the Home of her son.
   The many friends and acquaintance of Mrs. Eleanora King, who was for many years a resident of Cass county, and of Beardstown, died at the home of her son, in Frederick, Ill., Tuesday morning October the first.
   The body will be brought to Beardstown and the funeral services will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Casper Hinschide 1829 Monroe street, Thursday at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. P.C. Croll, pastor of the Fourth street Lutheran church. Interment will be in the city cemetery.
   The deceased was the mother of nine children and is survived by the following: Mrs. Bertha Reichert of Bluff Springs; August Koch of the city and Ed King of Frederick.

   Rhoda S. King, 82, of Beardstown, died Saturday evening, March 17, 2007, at her residence.
   She was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Jacksonville, the daughter of George W. and Mary S. Rolf Willerton. She married Bill B. King on July 28, 1945, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
   She is survived by two daughters, Janet Sue (husband, Roger) Hale and Linda J. (husband, Don) Looker, both of Beardstown; six grandchildren, Debbie (husband, Bob) Hale, Tari Hale and Jessica Looker, all of Beardstown, Jason Looker of Chicago, Sherry (husband, Brian) Rous of Schaumburg and James (wife, Brandi) Looker of Carbondale; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Michael; one great-grandson; one brother, Henry Willerton; and one sister, Margaret Farmer.
   Mrs. King was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and Guthrie-Pierce VFW Ladies Auxiliary, both in Beardstown. She was a homemaker and she loved traveling, dancing, bowling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Daniel Henry Kinney - September 19, 1870 - January 9, 1935
   Last rites for the late D.H. Kinney were held at St. Mary‚s Catholic Church on Friday a.m., January 11, 10:00. Requiem High Mass was celebrated, with Reverend Father Murphy officiating. A large concourse of friends of the deceased man assembled to pay their last tribute of love and esteem. The interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
   Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were John and Belle McKillip of Emery, Mr. and Mrs. Neill McKillip of Mitchell, Mrs. Kate Coughlin of Thermopolis, Wyoming, Miss Julia Wilson of Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Curtin of Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Dougherty of Mitchell.
   Daniel H. Kinney was born at Bluff Springs, Cass County, Illinois, September 19, 1870, the son of John and Isabella McKillip Kinney. He passed away at his home on Jan. 9, 1935 after a long illness. His boyhood and young manhood were spent in Illinois, and on April 11, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Devine in Jacksonville, Illinois at the Church of Our Saviour. To this union, two children were born, son Laurence Kinney and one daughter, Mrs. C.J. (Marguerite) Schneider.
   In 1901, Mr. and Mrs. Kinney moved to Iowa, conducting farm operations near Iowa City for six years, coming to Alexandria in 1907, engaging in farming here and where Mr. Kinney spent the remaining years of his life.
   Survived by widow, son and daughter, one grandson, John D. Schneider, one sister, Mrs. Catherine Kinney Steuernagle, and one brother, Thomas F. Kinney, both of Virginia, Illinois.
Note: He is also survived by two nieces, Rose V. Kinney Lerch of Rock Island, Illinois and Mary I. Kinney Devine of Ashland, Illinois and many cousins.

   Mrs. Patrick Kinney Dies In Her Home In Virginia Yesterday
   Mrs. Patrick Kinney, mother of Luther Hammer of this city, died in her home in Virginia, Ill, at 3:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon, August 16th, at the age of 88 years.
   Eliza Jane McKane was born in Cass County near the Monroe neighborhood on March 21, 1841 and had been a resident of this county all of her life.
   She was united in marriage to James Hammer and to this union two sons were born, Luther Hammer of Beardstown and J.T. Hammer of Chicago.
   Following Mr. Hammer’s death, she was again united in marriage to Mr. Patrick Kinney of Virginia, who survives her.
   Beside her two sons and her husband, she is also survived by three grandchildren, Mrs. Alfred Parry of Beardstown, Mrs. Sam Gotheridge, of Green Ridge, Mo., and C.F.
    Hammer of Dewitt, Iowa, and the following sisters, Mrs. George Dobson of Virginia and Mrs. Ellen Main of Beardstown.
   The deceased had been in failing health, due to advanced age and had been suffering with heart trouble for some time. Her condition gradually grew weaker until she succumbed yesterday.
   Funeral services will be held on Monday in the late home in Virginia at 2 o’clock p.m. with the pastor of the Methodist church of which the deceased was a member, officiating.
   Interment will be made in the Beardstown City Cemetery.
Note: Eliza’s maiden name is spelled McKean on her death certificate. Her parents were John and Nancy (Childers) McKean.

Isabelle Kinney - October 2, 1830 - June 14, 1899, Virginia, Illinois
   The death of Isabelle Kinney, one of Cass County’s pioneers, died on the home farm southwest of here Wednesday at 11 a.m. She was in ordinary physical health until about ten days ago. Her decline was rapid and death came not unexpected. The funeral will take place this morning at St. Luke’s. The interment will be made at the Catholic graveyard at Beardstown where her deceased husband is buried.
   Isabelle McKillip was born in County Antrim, Ireland October 2, 1830. She came to this country when quite young and settled in Pennsylvania. She was married to John Kinney and came to this county with Patrick, their firstborn, in the early 1850s and here the family home has since been established. Her husband died seventeen years ago this last January.
   Twelve children were born, six of whom survive, all residing in this county. They are Patrick, Kate, John, Thomas, Daniel, and Mike.

   Jane Cecelia Murray Kinney, wife of the late Patrick Kinney, passed away at her home Friday at 12:35 a.m. She was sick but a few days, death being caused by pneumonia. "Aunt Jane" as she was better known, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, Feb. 4, 1839. She was married to Patrick Kinney at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, Illinois on June 10, 1870. After their marriage, they went to housekeeping on what is known as the Chadsey farm, and after two years they moved to the home farm, where deceased died. She leaves two children, John B. Kinney, at home, and Mary, wife of J.F. Collins of Virginia, Illinois. Two daughters, her husband, and an infant granddaughter preceded her in death.
   Funeral services were conducted at St. Rose Catholic Church in Rushville on Saturday by Reverend Father Fitzgerald of Lewistown. Interment at Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Note: She is also survived by five grandchildren, Frank, Jr., Catherine, and Frances Bernadine Collins of Virginia, Illinois and George and Raymond Greuel of Camden, Illinois. One daughter who preceded her in death was Rose Anna Kinney Greuel.

John Kinney - November 5, 1822 - January 5, 1882, Virginia, Illinois
   This week we are compelled to announce the sorrowful news that another old citizen has gone to investigate the mysteries of the great hereafter. John Kinney, upon whose head the snows of 59 winters have fallen, closed his eyes at 8 a.m. last Thursday morning at his residence four miles southeast of Virginia. He was an old and respected citizen of this county and for a number of years he had charge of the Poor Farm here.
   Mr. Kinney was born in Loughguile Parish, County Antrim, Ireland. He married Isabelle McKillip in Penn.
   The funeral services took place at the Catholic Church, Father Weigand officiating. Interment was in Catholic Cemetery, Beardstown. Peace to his ashes.
   His wife Isabelle, sons Patrick, John, Thomas, Daniel, Michael and daughter Catherine Kinney, of Virginia, IL, brothers Patrick Kinney, of Camden, IL and Archibald Kinney, of Wis., survive him. Six children and a sister, Rose Kinney, preceded him in death.

Mary Josephine (Ryan) Kinney - August 15, 1878 - August 7, 1950
   Mary Mollie Ryan Kinney, 71, of 6639 S. Laflin Street, formerly of Virginia and Springfield, Illinois, died here at her sister's home on August 7, 1950 after a five month illness. She was born in Ballykillaboy, County Kilkenny, Ireland on August 15, 1878 to James Francis and Sarah A. Loughry Ryan.The family emigrated to the U.S. in 1880 and settled in Chicago. Mollie was united in marriage to Thomas Francis Kinney of Virginia, IL on January 29, 1901 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Chicago. They lived in Virginia, IL where they farmed for many years.
   She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas Kinney and daughter Mary Isabelle (Kinney) Devine, infant son, grandson Johnny Devine, and brother Joseph M. Ryan. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Mary (Kay) Devine Pack, Frank, Rose, James, and June Devine, three great grandchildren, sister Sarah (Ryan) Daly, nieces Rose Kinney Lerch, Marguerite Kinney Schneider, Helen Daly Lunden, nephews Lawrence Kinney, Patrick and John Daly.
   Funeral services will be held Thursday, 9 a.m. at St. Brendan‚s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Evanston. Member of Third Order of St. Dominic.

   Michael Kinney died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Werner (Catherine) Steuernagle. He was born in Bluff Springs, Illinois, December 4, 1876, son of John and Isabelle McKillip Kinney. He had spent his entire life in this county and for many years farmed southeast of Virginia. Since boyhood, he had been a cripple, his body undergoing the terrors of a bad fever. He has never married.
   He is survived by brothers Thomas and Patrick of here, John of Rock Island, and Daniel of Alexandria, South Dakota, and sister, Mrs. Kate Steuernagle of here, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was Monday morning at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown and burial in the Catholic Cemetery there.

Patrick Kinney - March 3, 1855 - January 4, 1931, Virginia, Illinois
   Funeral services for Patrick Kinney, age 75, who passed away at his home here Sunday, were held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Reverend Joseph O’Dwyer in charge Wednesday morning.
   The deceased had been ill for several weeks and had been subject to ill health the past three or four years. He was one time the City night watchman and a familiar on the square. Being a cripple, he received rough treatment several years ago from bank robbers who seized him and tied him with wire while they robbed the Centennial Bank here.
   Interment was in Beardstown Catholic Cemetery.
Note: Patrick was the eldest of John and Isabelle McKillip Kinney’s twelve children. He was preceded in death by his wife Eliza Jane Hammer Kinney.

Patrick Kinney - March 1833-1904
   Patrick Kinney was born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1833. He emigrated to America when eighteen years of age and soon afterwards located in Cass and Schuyler counties. Here he has resided for many years, and by thrift and economy accumulated a competence from his farm labors. Mr. Kinney was a jovial, sociable man who made friends easily and long retained the esteem of his associates and neighbors who, with the devoted wife and children mourn his loss. He was married at St. Alexius Catholic Church in June 1870 to Jane Cecelia Murray, who survives him. Of the children born to Mr. and Mrs. Kinney, there are living, Mrs. Francis Collins of Cass County, Mrs. Albert Greuel of Oakland township, and John B. Kinney, who resides at home. He also leaves a brother, Archie Kinney, and a sister who reside in Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Kinney, sister, Rose Kinney and an infant daughter.
   On Monday, funeral services were held at St. Mary‚s Catholic Church in Rushville, conducted by Reverend Father Madden, and the remains were taken to Mt. Sterling for interment in the Catholic cemetery.

Thomas Francis Kinney - April 14, 1868 - April 8, 1941, Virginia, Illinois
   Funeral services for Thomas Francis Kinney, 72, well known local retired farmer were held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church here yesterday morning at 10 a.m.
   Mr. Kinney passed away at his home Tuesday following an extended illness. He was born in Bluff Springs, the son of John and Isabelle Kinney. His wife, Mary J. survives him. A daughter, Mrs. Mary Devine, preceded him in death. He spent practically his entire life in this community.
   Services were conducted by Reverend Frederick Neveling and burial was at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Note: He also had six grandchildren, Mary, Frank, Johnny, Rose, James, and June Devine survive him. An infant son preceded him in death.

   Goldie E. Kirk, 77, of Chandlerville, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born March 1, 1930, in Crittenden County, Ky., the daughter of James D. and Daisy Elizabeth Smith Hall. She married Harry Darnell, and he preceded her in death. She later married Ollie Kirk on Aug. 17, 1964, in Elizabethtown, and he survives.
   She is survived by three daughters, Kathy McKinley and Nita Kirk, both of Canton and Rita (companion, Charles Hardy) Kirk of Meredosia; one son, Rocky Darnell of Marion, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Osmond of Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by two sons, Pete and Wally Darnell; three sisters; and two brothers.
   Mrs. Kirk was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and formerly worked as a home health aid and CNA at the Martin Manor Nursing Home in Havana and the Beardstown Long Term Care facility.
   Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Olive Cemetery near Chandlerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at www.hurleyfh.com.
