KRUSE, Albert - Virginia Gazette March 9, 1967 - Submitted by Carol Orwig
Albert Kruse, a retired farmer of Virginia, died on Sunday, March 5, at Schmitt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown. He was born on November 17, 1887. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 8, at the Lintner-Buchanan Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Rev W S Bailey officiated. Burial was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roger Deichman, Jim Deichman, Ted Shane, Ernest Strubbe, Wayne Garrett and Delbert Kruse. He is survived by the widow, the former Lucille Fox; one son Franklin of Virginia; one daughter, Mrs. Edward Diechman of Riverton; two sisters, Miss Emma Kruse of Carrolton, Mrs. Willis Davis of Virginia, five granchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alfred Adelbert Kruse, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Kruse of Jacksonville was born November 17, 1915 and died February 3, 1917, aged 1 year, 2 months and 16 days. Brief funeral services were held in Methodist Episcopal church of this city. Interment was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Carlos J. Kruse, January 23, 1914-August 24, 2007
Carlos J. Kruse, 93, of Virginia, died, August 24, 2007 at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
He was born January 23, 1914 in Cass County, the son of Jacob and Stella Pearl Davis Kruse. He married Helen L. Schall on September 24, 1938 in New London, Missouri, and she preceded in death on March 18, 1983. He later married Helen E. Riley Hassmann and she preceded in death on May 19, 2003.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Jean Orwig, Beardstown and Mary Jane Stock (husband, Richard) Virginia; six grandchildren, Deborah Smith, Bath, Gail Riggins (husband, William), Pleasant Plains, Terry Bast (wife, Barb), Atlanta, Kathi Armstrong, Ashland, Jackie Blakeman (husband, Michael), Wichita Falls, Texas, and Richard W. Stock (wife, Judene), Virginia; ten great-grandchildren: Jody (husband, Brad) Bowman, Jamie Smith, BrieAnn and Jacob Riggins, Andrew and Jared Blakeman, Dylan and Devon Armstrong and Jillian and James Stock; and five great-great-grandchildren: Joclyn, Larissa, Daulton, Bryce and Savannah. He was preceded in death by a son, Galen Wayne Kruse on March 9, 1965.
Mr. Kruse was a 1931 graduate of Virginia High School and retired from farming in the Shiloh and Monroe communities of Cass County. He was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Virginia and had formerly served several years on the board of directors of Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family met with friends one hour prior to services. Delbert Kruse - 1941-2004 - Virginia
Delbert Kruse, 62, of Virginia, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 2004, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
He was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Virginia, the son of Franklin and L. Maxine Young Kruse. He married Janice Anderson on Dec. 24, 1961, in Virginia, and she survives.
He is also survived by his mother of Virginia; one son, Robert (wife, Tina) of Taylorville; one grandson, Sione Neely of Taylorville; one sister, Linda (husband, Hack) Dulin of Virginia; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; and one niece.
Mr. Kruse was a 1960 graduate of Virginia High School. He was a truck driver for Cass County Service Co. and later owned and operated his own firm, Kruse Trucking. Most recently, he served as a truck driver for State Materials Service, a division of Illinois Road Contractors in Jacksonville from where he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and crafts.

George "Otto" Kruse - 1903-2003 - Beardstown
George "Otto" Kruse, 99, of Beardstown, died Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2003, at Heritage Manor East Nursing Home of Beardstown.
He was born July 9, 1903, in Troy, Iowa, the son of Charles A. and Christina Breck Kruse. He married Anna Reinola Moran on Nov. 24, 1926, at the VonFossen House in Beardstown, and she preceded him in death Jan. 4, 1997.
He is survived by one daughter, Virginia Lee Denny of Botavia; one granddaughter; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven of his nine brothers and sisters.
Mr. Kruse enjoyed growing flowers and was a member of the OWL Club which would play cards as a pastime. He was a retired dealership owner of Modern Chevrolet Sales, which is now Knipmeyer Chevrolet Inc. He started in the car sales business in Iowa. The first car he sold cost $414. Mr. Kruse came to Beardstown in 1922 and sold cars for a short while, delivered milk for two years and then went back to selling cars. Those years as a milk man were important because he met his future wife while delivering milk to her parent's home.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home of Beardstown with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Helen E. Kruse 1917-2003 - Virginia
Helen E. Kruse, 85, of Virginia, died Monday morning, May 19, 2003, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born Nov. 20, 1917 in Cass County, the daughter of Walter and Grace Irvin Riley. She married Harold R. Hassman Jan. 27, 1938, in Cass County, and he preceded her in death Nov. 4, 1978. She later married Carlos J. Kruse Oct. 14, 1984, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and he survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Ellen M. (husband, Gary) Reische of Colchester and Mildred E. Edwards of Brandywine, Md.; three grandchildren, Neil Reische of Bushnell, Cheryl Taschler of Silver Spring, Md., and Beth Edwards of Brandywine, Md.; three-great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Carol Jean (husband, John) Orwig of Beardstown and Mary Jane (husband, Richard) Stock of Virginia; six step-grandchildren; 10 great-step-grandchildren; one brother, Paul (wife, Betty) Riley of Virginia; two sisters, Margaret (husband, George) Fanning of Virginia, Freda Dalton of San Diego; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Riley (surviving wife, Pat of Virginia) and William Riley.
Mrs. Kruse was a 1936 graduate of Virginia High School and was employed as a cook for Brick Elementary School in rural Beardstown for 18 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church of rural Virginia and Cass County Home Extension.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. High Kruse, a farmer on Indian Creek, died Tues. the 17th, after a wagon runaway accident during haying operations. Burial was in Hackman cemetery.
KRUSE, Jacob - Chandlerville Times, Chandlerville, Illinois, May 22, 1903
Jacob Kruse was born at Speicher, Kanton county, Switzerland, September 26, 1815 and died in this city on Wednesday, May 13,1903, aged 87 years 7 months and 17 days. In the year 1839 he was united in marriage to Anna Magdalena, at Speicher, Switzerland. To this union eight children were born six of which preceded him in death. The two who survive him are Miss Elizabeth Kruse, of this city, and Mrs. Mary Hagerman of Hanford, King County, California. He imigrated to this country in the year 1849 and settled down at Beardstown, Ill, until the year 1879, when he moved to this city, where he has made his home until called away by the angle of death. About fifteen years ago he lost one of his eyes by an accident and then a few years later he had the la grippe, which caused him to lose the sight of his other eye. The deceased was a good citizen and a kind neighbor, but the highest praise to be said of him is that he proved himself a true Christian. March 19, 1901, his wife preceded him to his death which left him a widower two years. Besides his daughters, he leaves nine grandchildren to mourn his loss namely - Anna, Sarah, William, Edith, Grace, Verna, Bertha, and Raymond Hagerman, all of Hanford Cal. and Herman Rentzsch of this city. The funeral services were held in this city at the Lutheran church on Friday, May 15, 1903 at 1 o'clock p.m., Rev Witschonke officiating, interment to the village cemetery.

John Lawrence Kruse was born in Speicher Appenzell, Switzerland, November 17, 1829 and died at his late home near Chandlerville, January 12, 1905, at the age of 75 years 1 month 27 days. He was reared in a Christian home. At the age of 17 years he was confirmed under the Reformed denomination at that place. May 16, 1855, he in the company with his senior brother, Mathias, came to this country. In 1850 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Reichert. Six children were born to this union, three of who survive him.
In August 1874 his wife proceded him to the better world.
In 1879 he was again married to Anna Harvey, to this union was born six children, two of them surviving.
His entire life was spent in farming. Thereby being a devoted husband, father and brother, and will be sadly missed by his lived ones. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, five children; John, Elizabeth, Christopher, Mathew and Barba, all of Chandlerville, one brother Mathias Kruse of Virginia, IL, and a concourse of sorrowing friends. He was buried in Chandlerville City Cemetery.
KRUSE, Matt - Waunetta Breeze (Nebraska) January 4, 1941
Matt Kruse, for forty years a resident of this community died at his home in Wauneta on Christmas Day early in the afternoon. His death followed an illness which confined him to his bed since November 18, although his health had been failing since early summer. Services were held at a funeral home in McCook with Rev. N.F. Horn in charge. The I.O.O.F.Lodge from Wauneta conducted services at the grave. Pallbearers were Lee Dinnell, Adolf Engle, Forest Hanna, Myron Williams, Wm. Dudek, Jr., and Harry Lowe.
Matt Kruse, son of Mathias and Sophia Kruse was born in Virginia, Ill. On October 23, 1873 and passed away at his home in Wauneta, December 25, 1940, at the age of 67 years 2 months and 2 days. On September 4, 1937 he was married to Maxine Wilma Cox of Hamlet, Nebraska. He leaves to mourn besides his wife, Maxine, six brothers, Henry, John, David, Albert, Jacob, and three sisters, Sophia, Emma and Barbara all of Virginia, Illinois, other relatives and a host of friends. Those to attend the funeral from away were his brothers David and Jake, his nephews, Franklin Kruse and Wilbur Davis all of Virginia.

Maxine Kruse, 1923-2007, Virginia
Maxine Kruse, 83, of Virginia, died Tuesday evening, February 27, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born July 15, 1923, in Morgan County, the daughter of Leroy and Effie Hacker Young. She married Franklin Kruse on May 3, 1941, in Fulton, Mo. and he preceded in death March 1, 1992.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda (husband, James "Hack") Dulin of Virginia; four grandsons, Patrick (wife, Venia) Garrett of Batavia, Michael Garrett of Indianapolis, James H. Jr. (wife, Amanda) Dulin of Kokomo, Ind., and Robert Kruse of Taylorville; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Young of Virginia and Eugene (wife, Shirley) Young of Dry Branch, Ga.; one sister, Shirley (husband, Benny) Egnot of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Delbert (surviving wife, Janice of Virginia); one granddaughter, Angela Garrett; four brothers, Jim, Bill, Joe, and in infancy, Dickey Young; and three sisters, Lenora Beaucham, Millie Evoy, and in infancy, Margie Young.
Mrs. Kruse was a homemaker and was employed as a waitress for many years at Smith’s Café in Jacksonville and Rossi’s Restaurant in Virginia. She was a former member of the Youngblood Baptist Church in Nortonville. She enjoyed riding along with her husband as he drove trucks.
Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. There will be no visitation. Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home of Virginia is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.buchananfuneralhomes.com.

Mrs. Pearl Kruse of Virginia, died May 9 at 10:50 a.m. at the Beardstown hospital. She was born July 7, 1886 in Cass County, the daughter of Frank J. and Jane Davis. Her husband preceded her in death in 1951. Surviving is one son, Carlos of Virginia, on brother, Richard Davis of Ashland, two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 12 at 2 p.m. at the Massie Funeral Home in Virginia. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Garold Lee Krusie, 80, of Beardstown, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
he was born April 13, 1926, in Cass County, the son of Gilbert William and Marie M. Smedley Krusie. He married Mardelle L. Eckhoff on Dec. 18, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown, and she preceded him in death in April 1995.
He is survived by one brother, Gilbert E. of Beardstown; one sister, Imogene Ross of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda May; and one sister, Shirley Hymes.
Mr. Krusie was baptized May 30, 1926 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Arenzville and was confirmed April 6, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 until 1947 in Germany. He was a life member of VFW Post 4763 in Chatham and also the Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239 in Beardstown. He was a member of Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail. He was employed with Woolworth Company from 1947-1965 working in Chicago, Quincy and Beardstown, Jewel Company in Barrington 1965-1981, Country Market in Beardstown 1981-1982, Carter Vending in Jacksonville 1982-1989, First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown as a janitor 1989-1990 and B&M Maintenance in Springfield 1990-1994.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh#@casscomm.com.
KULHMAN, Charles - Beardstown Illinoian, Mar. 9, 1876 Sun. the 5th of Typhoid Pneumonia, Charles Kulhman, age 39. He was born Apr. 3, 1837 in Loehne, Prussia. He came to Cass county in 1857, was a member of 3rd IL Calvery during the Civil War. The funeral was from Griggs Chapel. He leaves his wife and three children and brothers, Casper, William, Henry and John.

Died 8 am this morning at her home two miles east of Bluff Springs, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Casper Kuhlman, passed away. She was 84 and born October 20, 1820. The funeral will be held Wed. at St. John's Lutheran Church. (She was first married to Randel Miller).
