Anna M. Long
   Anna M. Long, 57, of Beardstown, died Monday evening, Jan. 20, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Jessie H. and Armissie Virgie Mae Huffman Piper. She married Willard Dyer in 1964 and he preceded her in death. She then married Gary Wilson March 25, 1970, and he preceded her in death. She married Sanford Long in 1983 and he preceded her in death.
   She is survived by one son, David (wife, Peggy) Dyer of Beardstown; one daughter, Serena Wilson of Beardstown; her mother Virgie Braind of Bedford, N.H.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother Gale Piper of Missouri; two sisters Dollie Schackleford of Monument, Kan., and June Creesey of Plymouth, Ind.; and numerous half brothers and half sisters. She was preceded in death by her father.
   Mrs. Long attended school in Peoria. She was a home maker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a happy person who liked people, liked to make crafts, and enjoyed attending yard sales.
   Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 5-7 p.m.

Helen Kathy Surratt Long - 1946-2002
   Helen Kathy Surratt Long, 56, of Virginia, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
   She was born Oct. 19, 1946, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Melvin S. "Jack" and Helen Virginia Alexander Surratt.
   She is survived by one son, Frank J. Long II of Virginia; her mother of Ashland; four brothers, Donald Surratt of Ashland, Dick (wife, Millie) Surratt of Rushville, Danny Ray (wife, Rose) Surratt of Lovington, N.M, and Melvin (wife, Mary) Surratt of Jerseyville; one sister, Darlene (husband, Dick) Marshall of Mission, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her father, and two brothers, Emil Surratt and Jackie Surratt.
Mrs. Long worked at the Human Resource Center in Virginia and also cleaned homes in Virginia. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Virginia.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Chapin Cemetery near Chapin. Friends may call after noon Thursday at the funeral home where the family will meet friends from 4-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.    Mary Buxton was born May 26, 1838, and died at her late home near Concord Monday. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist church in Concord. Deceased was married November 20, 1858 to Charles H. Long and to them five children were born, four of whom survive who are Mrs. George Hoover of Burlington, KS, Mrs Henry Wegehold of Concord, Mrs. Henry Funk of Monroe neighborhood, and Oscar Long of near this city. She is also survived by three sisters, Mesdames Andrew Long of Brown county and James Brown and John Hamm of Concord; and by eight grandchildren. The husband preceded her in death two years ago.

Walter Long, 1935-2007, Beardstown
   Walter Long, 72, a lifelong resident to Beardstown, and friend to many, died Monday evening, Nov. 19, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
   He was born April 2, 1935, in Beardstown, the son of William P. and Alma F. Rice Long.
   He is survived by three brothers, Henry (wife, Nancy) of Canton, Elmer of Jacksonville and Stephen (wife, Kathy) of Beardstown; two sisters, Fannie Parks of San Leon, Texas, and Wilberta R. "Bertie" Taylor of Beardstown; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Edward.
   Mr. Long attended Beardstown schools. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Beardstown, and worked for over 20 years for Lauder Salvage and then for the Human Resource Center, both in Beardstown.
   Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. at First Christian Church in Beardstown, with graveside funeral services 10 a.m. Saturday at Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the church. The funeral cortege will leave at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown at 9:45 a.m. for the cemetery. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church in Beardstown or the Cass County Human Resource Center. Carol 'Sudie' Lovell, 1943-2003, Beardstown
   Carol "Sudie" Lovel, 60, of Beardstown, died Friday May 30, 2003, at her residence.
   She was born April 11, 1943, in Bloomington, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Bruner Walker. She married James L. Lovell June 20, 1965, in Bloomington, and he survives.
   She is also survived by her father, Gene Shifflett of Bloomington; two sons, Mark (wife, Mary) of Beardstown and Matthew (wife, Diana) of Franklin; two daughters, Mary (husband, Bill) Upp and Emily Lovell, both of Beardstown; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Creech, Christina, Mark Jr., Courtney and Gracie Lovell, Lewie Smith and Jacob and Noah Upp; one great-grandson; two brothers, Bud Otto of Miami and Mike (wife, Rena) Shifflett of Bloomington; and one sister, Terri (husband, Mike) Abfalder of Normal. She was preceded in death by her parents.
   Mrs. Lovell graduated from Bloomington High School in the class of 1961 and from Illinois State University in 1967 with a bachelor of science degree in special education. She taught in the Towanda, Bloomington, Havana, and Beardstown school districts. At the time of her death, Mrs. Lovell was employed as a teacher of special education at Gard School in Beardstown.While residing in Havana, she and her husband owned and operated Video Circus in Havana from 1989 until 1991. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Beardstown. She enjoyed swimming and camping, especially at Evening Star Camp Ground near Havana. She truly loved her family and her grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them.
   Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Beardstown, with graveside funeral services held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church. Beardstown School District 15 personnel will hold a candlelight vigil from 6:30-7 p.m. at the church Monday. Memorials are suggested to Beardstown Christian Academy or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements.

Glen Lovekamp, 1922-2007, Arenzville
   Robert "Glen" Lovekamp, 84, of Arenzville, died Tuesday evening April 17, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He was born June 14, 1922, in Arenzville, the son of Robert Henry and Minnie Marie Roegge Lovekamp. He married Doris Jane Schnitker on Dec. 24, 1944, at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Arenzville, and she survives.
   He is also survived by three sons, Terri (wife, Patty) of Cerro Gordo, James (wife, Karen) of Martinez, Ga., and Rick (wife, Robyn) of Arenzville; six grandchildren, Terry Lee and Trisha Lovekamp, Tara Lovekamp-Swan and Josh, Joe and Rhianna Lovekamp; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale (wife, Wyllia) of Beardstown; and two sisters, Blanche (husband, Don) Chipman of Beardstown and Alice Binder of Denver. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Letha Ryan, Janet (surviving husband, Jack of Beardstown) Foster and Frances Cooper; and one brother, Byron (surviving wife, Mary of Springfield).
   Mr. Lovekamp graduated from Arenzville High School in the class of 1940. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville and as a faithful member he served on various committees throughout the years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the repair ship USS Laertes. Before and after his service in the U.S. Navy, he drove a truck for Schnitker Truck Lines in Arenzville and Nichol Sand Company in Savanna, and since 1954, he farmed in rural Arenzville.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville, with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Arenzville. The family will meet with friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Elevator Fund. Ardis 'Bernadine' Lowe, 1925-2008, Beardstown
   Ardis "Bernadine" Lowe, 82, of Beardstown, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29, 2008, at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown.
   She was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Beardstown, the daughter of John and Gwendolin Coil Lawson. She married Harvey James Lowe on Aug. 20, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo., and he preceded her in death June 20, 1982.
   She is survived by one son, Harvey Ray (wife, Alice) of Hinesville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Teresa (husband, Scott) Wilcox of Greenville, S.C. and Jason (wife, Regina) Lowe of Jacksonville; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Evelyn Stinson of Savannah, Gladys Stinson of Arenzville, Vera Reeder of Beardstown, Ruby (husband, Jim) Weishaar of Browning and Rethyle (husband, Martin) Woods of Rushville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert Dale Lawson; and five sisters, Roberta (surviving husband, Lloyd of Savannah) Hull, Velda Baker, Catherine and Doris Jean Lawson and one in infancy.
   Mrs. Lowe was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Beardstown. As a homemaker, she enjoyed working puzzles, camping with her husband and traveling.
   Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery.
