McCONNELL, Cynthia Ann (Rew) - newspaper unknown, Submitted by Clarinda Rew Troemel
   Mrs. Cynthia McConnell Dies.
Mrs. Cynthia McConnell, mother of L.W. and Charles McConnell, who has been an invalid for some time, and unable to walk as the result of a fall, over a year ago, died Friday night at the home of her son, Charles.
Obituary - Cynthia Ann Rew was born on April 6, 1832, at Beardstown, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood. In 1874 she moved to Virginia, Illinois, where she lived until 1905, when she went to Loveland, Colorado. Here she remained but one year, when she came to make her home with her son, Charles, in McCook. She was married on September 4, 1855 to David James McConnell, who in 1906, preceded her to Eternity. She was the mother of four children. "Grandma" McConnell, as she was familiarly known to all, was converted under the preaching of the famous pioneer preacher, Peter Cartright, in 1864 and at once united herself with the Methodist church of which she was a faithful and true member to her last moments. An accident a few years ago deprived her of many of the enjoyments that might have been hers, but she was ever anxious to attend the services of her house of God, whither she would be taken in her wheeled chair. Her sickness which culminated in her decease was of short duration, she being present at church the Sunday before her death and the end came rapidly as it did peacefully. Friday evening, April 27, 1917, when Mrs. McConnell went to her long home, there ended a life useful for God in its devotion to those whom God had given her. She is survived by her four children, L.W. and Charles McConnell, of McCook, Mrs. Lucy E. Crum, of Redland, California and Mrs. Sadie Riley, of Kansas City, Missouri, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild. The funeral services were held at the resident of her son, Charles, on 2nd Street East, on Saturday afternoon, April 28, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. H.C. Seidel, the church choir furnishing the music. On Sunday morning the remains were taken to Virginia, Illinois, where interment took place on Monday afternoon, Friday 4 May 1917.

McCONNELL, John M. - Beardstown Central, Sept. 7, 1871

He leaves his widow and five children, with four children deceased. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was born in PA, raised in KY, and came to Pike county, IL in 1831, then to Cass county in 1846. Masonic rites were held at his funeral.

McCOY, George - Virginia Gazette, Nov. 30, 1883 (This is not an obituary but felt it should be included.)
An old stone at the old Beardstown Cemetery on 8th Street is that of George McCoy, died 1st April, 1846, age 56. Two men of unquestionable veracity related strange happenings late at night and have kept quiet because of fear of being called superstitious. One man stated while on his way home, passing opposite the cemetery gate, he felt a chill go over him and a sound like the clap of thunder. Inside the gate, he saw the above tombstone with a round ball of light resting on it. Instantly it melted and ran down over the slab, every letter on it stood out. He turned and ran home. (This former cemetery had Beard School built on it in 1914, now the school is an apartment building. The stones were moved to the City cemetery.)
