Mrs. Catherine Elizabeth Roberts, died at her home, 1211 E. 9th St, Friday, May 30 at 9:30 p.m. after a stroke of paralysis of Tuesday evening, aged 73 years 8 months and 19 days.
She was the mother of nine children, fine having preceded her in death, those surviving are four sons, C.A. Roberts of Hammond, IN, Tillman T. Roberts of Honolulu, Hawaii, H.D. and Luther L. Roberts of Beardstown. John Roberts, husband preceded her in death16 years ago. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist Church, Rev. G.L. Losh officiating. Interment in City Cemetery in the family lot.

G. Chris Roberts, 1942-2007, Timewell
George Christy Roberts, 64, of Timewell, died Sunday morning, Jan. 7, 2007 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born May 6, 1942 in Quincy, the son of G. Leon and Dorothy Moore Roberts. He married Judy Tucker on Sept. 8, 1963, in Beardstown, and she survives.
He is also survived by his mother of Mount Sterling; one son, Mark (wife, Sandi) of Timewell; two daughters, Kathy (husband, John) Rohrer of Timewell and Rita Roberts of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Matt and Aimee Roberts and Leah Rohrer, all of Timewell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; one son and one daughter, both in infancy; and one brother in infancy.
Mr. Roberts graduated from Brown County High School with the Class of 1960 and attended both Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and Gem City Business College in Quincy. He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer. He enjoyed farming land in Illinois and Missouri and also ran a bulldozer in his spare time to improve his land. He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Mt. Sterling where he served as elder.
Mr. Roberts was an avid sportsman who enjoyed quail and mushroom hunting and truly loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Hardin Lodge No. 44 A.F. & A.M. and was also a Shriner.He was a past member of the Brown County Board for 12 years, a past member of the Brown County Board of Education, had served as chairman of the board for the First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling several times, was a former 4-H leader, was member of the Marion County Drainage District for over 20 years and had testified before Congress in Washington D.C. for the Marion County Drainage District regarding levee and lock and dam improvements on the upper Mississippi and Illinois river. He loved watching his children and grandchildren through their athletic programs and activities and was a proud hornet fan.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling, with burial at Mounds Cemetery near Timewell. Friends may call any time after 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling, with the family meeting friends from 4-8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation. Friends may also call one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Jeanne L. Robertson 1926-2003 - Beardstown
Jeanee L. Robertson, 77, of Beardstown, died Saturday afternoon, March 1, 2003, at Barton W. Stone Christian Home in Jacksonville.
She was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Beardstown, the daughter of Paul Edward and Helen Louise Hanks Brown. She married William L. Robertson July 7, 1945, in Beardstown, and he preceded her in death July 3, 1989.
She is survived by two sons, Bill (wife, Angela) of rural Beardstown and David (wife, Bobette) of Bluff Springs; two daughters, Nancy (husband, Steve) Schnake of Virginia and Tina (husband, Michael) Morehead of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Joan (husband, Harris) Halvorson of Palm City, Fla.; three nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Edward Brown Jr., and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Robertson graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1943 and then began her employment with Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Beardstown as a telephone operator for many years. She was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown where she sang in the choir, was a member of Alter Society, and was a member of the Mother Cabrini Study Group. She formerly served as president of the Beards School PTA in Beardstown and president of the Schmidt Memorial/Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs in Beardstown.
Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beard Cemetery on North Bluff Springs Road near Beardstown. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with a rosary service being held 5 p.m. and the family will meet with friends after the rosary service until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Gladys E. Robinson, 1929-2007, Beardstown
Gladys E. Robinson, 77, of Beardstown, died Saturday evening, April 28, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Monticello, Ky., the daughter of Charles Bluford and Myrtie Lynch Franklin. She married Robert Kennedy in 1947 and they had nine children. She later married Ray E. Robinson on Oct. 17, 1972.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon M. Steininger of Meredosia, Cathy E. Kennedy of Conrad, Mont., and Christine Bacon of Beardstown; five sons, Paul E. Kennedy of Beardstown, Benjamin R. Kennedy of Centralia, John J. Kennedy of Rushville, Frankie L. Kennedy of Springfield, and Kevin B. Kennedy of Jacksonville; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Taylor of Ohio and Mary Underwood of Kentucky. She was preceded in death by one son, David H. Kennedy; one sister, Mazie E. Martin; and two brothers, Homer L. and George Nelson Franklin.
Mrs. Robinson was raised in Kentucky where she attended a one-room country school and completed sixth grade. She was taken out of school to help her parents in the tobacco fields and at home with the growing family. After her marriage she moved to Illinois, and in 1968 moved to Beardstown. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly in Meredosia. She retired in 1990 after many years of service at Myers Nursing Home in Beardstown.
Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Beardstown, with burial 2 p.m. Wednesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. The family will meet with friends from 4 p.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown is in charge of arrangements. John H. 'Jack' Robinson, 1921-2007, Virginia
John Harrison "Jack" Robinson, 86, of Virginia, died Sunday morning, Nov. 25, 2007, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
He was born May 12, 1921, in Jacksonville, the son of Carroll Oakley and Irene Stice Robinson. He married Mary Lee Bailey on Aug. 14, 1965, in Virginia, and she preceded him in death Dec. 4, 2006.
He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Lee Hobrock of Virginia; one grandson, Scott (wife, Diana) Hobrock of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Oakley Robinson.
Mr. Robinson served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 participating in the invasion of Tarawa and Okinawa during WW II. He farmed many years in the Prentice area and delivered propane for John B. Mann and Associates in the Ashland, Virginia and Pleasant Plains area. He was a graduate of Ashland High School where he was a track standout who still holds an event record today. He enjoyed gardening and faithfully rooting for the Chicago Cubs.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with burial in Yatesville Cemetery, west of Prentice. The family will meet friends at the church from 2 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services. Mary Lee Robinson, 1924-2006, Virginia
Mary Lee Robinson, 82, of Virginia, died Monday evening, Dec. 4, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
She was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Harry Arthur and Ethel Sanks Bailey. She married Jack Robinson on Aug. 14, 1965, in Virginia, and he survives.
She is also survived by one daughter, Stephanie Lee Hobrock of Virginia; one grandson, Scott (wife, Diana) Hobrock of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Robinson was a 1942 graduate of Virginia High School and attended Monmouth College. She later graduated from Robert Morris Business College. From 1957 to 1960, she was employed by CIPS and from 1960 to 1965 worked for the Cass County Extension Service. She later served for many years as a part-time secretary with the McClure, Brannan & Hardwick Law Firm.
Mrs. Robinson was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia where she faithfully produced church bulletins over 13 years. An avid bridge player, she was a former 4-H leader and a former treasurer of the Virginia Woman's Club.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with private burial at Yatesville Cemetery, west of Prentice. Melford D. Robison - 1938-2003 - Chandlerville
Melford D. Robison, 65, of rural Chandlerville, died Sunday morning, March 30, 2003 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Jan. 24, 1938 in Kilbourne, the son of George H. and Vesta W. Wallace Robison. He married Phyllis A. Shoemaker Nov. 16, 1962 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County, Il. and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Mick (wife, Teresa) of rural Chandlerville and Jamie (wife, Cathy) of rural Chandlerville; two grandchildren, Gilbert and Jacob Robison of rural Chandlerville; one brother, Ivan (wife, Clare) of Kilbourne; two sisters, Shirley (husband, Mike) Maletic of Peoria, Ariz. and Beverly (husband, Merle) Daniels of Kilbourne; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Robison was employed at Fiat-Allis in Springfield for 25 years. He was a graduate of Bath Balyki High School and served with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Chandlerville American Legion Post #694 and Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mason County with burial in Bethel Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Annabell Rockwell, 82, of Beardstown, died early Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She was born on July 5, 1924, in Warren County near Berwick, the daughter of Roy and Lucy Friday Morris. She married Albert Rockwell on June 22, 1956, in Rushville, and he survives.
She is also survived by four sons, John David, Paul Phillip (wife, Tammy), Roy Glen and James Andrew, all of Beardstown; three grandchildren, Courtney, Jimmie and Jacob Rockwell; two stepgrandchildren, Christian and Mikayla Alters; and one brother, Merle Morris of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva, Betty June, Velma and Hazel; three brothers, Howard, Floyd and Russell; and one stepbrother, Clifford "Tippy" Friday.
Mrs. Rockwell attended a country grade school in Fulton County and was a member of Union Baptist Church in Beardstown. She operated a licensed day care from her home for several years and also worked at the Glove Factory in Beardstown.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation. Condolences may be sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

Robert Roegge, 60, of 1209 Jefferson St., Beardstown, died Saturday evening at Schmitt Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 12, 1907 in Arenzville, a son of John and Emma Paul Roegge.
Surviving are the wife, Helen; one son, Fred of Springfield; one daughter Mrs. LaVerne Stevens of Berwyn; three brothers, Walter of Arenzville, Edgar of Jacksonville and Paul of Peoria; three sisters, Laura Roegge of Arenzville; Mrs. Olga Werries of Meredosia, and Mrs. Selma Kelly of Carrollton; and one grandchild.
Funeral services to be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward Lang officiating. Burial will be in Arenzville Cemetery.
Friends may call at Northcutt Funeral Home from 7 to 9 pm. on Monday. The remains will be taken to the church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Nedra T. Roskelley - 1919-2003 - Chandlerville
Nedra T. Roskelley, 86, of Chandlerville, died Saturday morning, July 5, 2003, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.
She was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Roy L. and Edna Willey Tribe. She married Dr. Rigby Roskelley on Sept. 9, 1938, in Salt Lake City, and he preceded her in death May 13, 1999.
She is survived by four sons, Ron (wife, Georgia) of Monett, Mo., David (wife, Mary) of Crystal Lake, John (wife, Susie) of Walla Walla, Wash., and Jim (wife, Paula) of Havana; one daughter, Becky Berg of Chandlerville; and two brothers, Howard Tribe of Ogden, Utah, and Royal Tribe of Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother.
Mrs. Roskelley was a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Jacksonville and a member of the Relief Society of the Church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Humanitarian Aid of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Kenneth 'Faye' Ross, 73, 509 West Main St., Beardstown, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Kloker of South Beardstown drainage district at 10:15 a.m. Sunday Feb. 19. [1989]
She was born February 26, 1915 in Beardstown, the daughter of Curtis and Clara Dozier Logsdon. She married Kenneth Ross August 25, 1931 at Beardstown. He survives.
She is also survived by: three daughters, Mrs. James 'Clara' Kloker, Rt. #1, Arenzville; Mrs. Don 'Helen' Long, Mt. Sterling; and Mrs. Charles 'Betty' Birdsell, Chandlerville; one son, ALbert Ross, Beardstown; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, one grandson, David Kenneth Kloker and two brothers.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Beardstown City Cemetery with Pastor James Beaty of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Beardstown officiating.
Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.
ROSS, Robert
Sad Accident - On last Wednesday, about 4 o'clock, P.M. Robert Ross, a farmer living 3 1/2 miles north of Virginia, went to the field, in company with a young son, to haul oats. He loaded a small load on the wagon and started home, and by some means, lost his balance and fell from the wagon, injuring his spinal column, and causing his death in the course of seven hours. Mr. Ross was a hardworking citizen. He was buried at Sugar Grove Cemetery yesterday.

Velma Versie Ross, 97, of Virginia, died Friday morning, Dec. 7, 2006, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born March 24, 1909, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., the daughter of William and Mary Pierce Stidman. She married Paul Ross on Aug. 19, 1926, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and he preceded her in death in 1970.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne (wife, Ramona) and Larry Dale (wife, Darlene), both of the state of Washington; one daughter, Waseeta (husband, James) Sidebottom of Palm Harbor, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sons, James, Sonny and Frankie Joe; one daughter, Juanita Caldwell; and 12 siblings.
Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Visitation will be from1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Associations or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. William "Bill" Rossi Jr., 91 years, of Virginia, IL died Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2005 at Heritage Manor East in Beardstown, IL.
He was born February 17, 1914 in Auburn, IL; the son of William Sr. And Josephine Hock Rossi. He married Wilma H. Wallner on September 1, 1935 in Chatham, IL and she preceded in death on December 18, 1993.
He is survived by son, Henry "Butch" Rossi of Lake Worth, FL; two daughters, Mary Jo Smith (husband, H.B.) Of Virginia and Donna Smith (husband, James) of St. Augustine, FL; 12 grandchildren, Michael Smith (wife, Roxan) of Moorecroft, WY, Debbie Mansfield (husband, G.R.) of Virginia, Susan Dahms (husband, Jeff) of Muskegon, MI, David Smith (wife, Carla) of Virginia, Anthony Rossi of Riverton, Brad Rossi of San Francisco, CA, Neal Rossi (wife, Rita) of Jacksonville, Jay Smith (wife, Dale) of Jacksonville, FL, Carrie Methvan (husband, Thomas) of Hastings, FL, Virginia Smith of St. Augustine, FL, Greg Smith (wife, Holly) of Hastings, FL, and Katie Kelly (husband, John) of Elkton, FL; 24 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Middleton of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Rossi.
Mr. Rossi was a graduate of Auburn High School. He co-founded the East Side Tavern with his family, the first tavern in Virginia following prohibition. He later owned and operated Rossi's Restaurant for 14 years on the Virginia square, retiring in 1975. He also served on the Virginia Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia and was a former member of the Virginia Kiwanis Club and the Beardstown Elks Lodge.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM Tuesday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, Virginia Volunteer Fire Department, or Virginia Park System. A Swiss man named Roth, working on the Mathias Kruse farm some four miles from here went to the barn to lay down hay. That was the last he was seen until 4 pm Saturday when his body was found in an unused well. A verdict of suicide was given by a jury. He had worked for Mr. Kruse for a year. He had a mother, brothers and sisters in Switzerland.
