Nina Bernice Seaborn, 1913-2007, Beardstown
Nina Bernice Seaborn, 94, of Beardstown, died Sunday morning, Sept. 16, 2007, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born Jan. 4, 1913, in rural Baylis, the daughter of George and Nina Powell Orebaugh. She married K.L. "Lefty" Seaborn on Jan. 20, 1932, in Pittsfield, and he preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1985.
She is survived by three sons, Phillip (wife, Elaine), Butch (wife, Patty) and Pat (wife, Lily), all of Baylis; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson She was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Logsdon; two sisters, Opal Barclay and Georgila Stearns; and one brother in infancy.
Mrs. Seaborn was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Beardstown where she taught Sunday school and she was formerly an election judge in Beardstown. She and her husband owned and operated Seaborn Electric in Beardstown for 30 years and they raised and attended field trials of Weimaraner dogs. She enjoyed playing bridge and bunko.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beardstown City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Heritage Manor South Activity Fund. Condolences may sent to sagerfh@casscomm.com.

Fredda Lee Seaman, October 16, 1926-June 17, 2008
Fredda Lee Seaman, 81, of Beardstown died Tuesday morning, June 17, 2008, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
She was born October 16, 1926 in Indiana, the daughter of Shafher and Callie Crowe Hardwick. She married Robert G. Seaman on June 4, 1949 at the St. Alexius Catholic Church Rectory in Beardstown and he preceded her in death October 13, 2005.
She is survived by several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Juanita Hardwick Gebhardt and one brother, Duff Hardwick.
Mrs. Seaman was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. She retired from First State Bank in Beardstown after many years of service.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown with burial in St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery in Beardstown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.
Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice or St. Alexius Catholic Church.

John C Seeger died at the residence of Mrs. Ellen Brackenberry on West Mail street in this city Thursday, April 21, 1898 at 3 p.m. Deceased was an old soldier, who had for the six or seven years last passed made his home at Brackenberry's. Funeral services will occur today at 2 o'clock at the late home of the deceased. Interment in Soldiers lot in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Dr. Seeger was born 25 September 1800, in Gottingen Hanover Germany, of wealthy parents who provided him with a finished university education including medicine. He married and then practiced medicine near his home for some eighteen years and would have remained there, had not his only child died. The death left such an aching void in their they wished to leave the scene of their sadness. The Seegers arrived in New York in 1842 and stayed with friends in Cincinnati until reaching Beardstown in 1843. There he bought land from Thomas Beard and resided there until his death. Dr. Seeger took out naturalization papers to complete the assimilation into a new life. The couple also adopted a little girl. Several years of placid calm was destroyed by the death of his wife. Shortly after, the adopted daughter married a German, Mr. Oetgen, and they resided on a farm in Bluff Springs. Dr. Seeger married Mrs. Catherine Vordemfelde at the Lutheran Church in Beardstown. Ill with consumption, he died March 22, 1869. Both he and his first wife are buried at Oetgen Lutheran cemetery outside of Beardstown. Her tombstone reads, Helena Katherina Seeger Nov. 5, 1789-Feb. 7, 1861.

Mrs. Elizabeth Self, wife of John Self, died Sat. at her residence, three miles south of here, of pneumonia. She had been ill since Monday. She was born in KY in 1820 and came here in 1841. She was the mother of eleven children, six survive. She was a member of the Christian Church and was buried in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Virginia, IL.

Darlene Seward, 1933-2007, Beardstown
Darlene Seward, 74, of Beardstown, died Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born Oct. 3, 1933, in Beardstown, the daughter of Ray and Helen Kloker Dodds. She married Gerald R. Seward on Feb. 11, 1951, in Beardstown, and he survives.
She is also survived by her mother of Beardstown; three daughters, Kay Trone, Kathy (husband, Paul) Miller and Lori (husband, Scott) Haines all of Houston; five grandchildren, Aysia and Shaylen Trone, Mia Maurice, Jerrad Haines and Nichole Miller; two great-grandsons; and one sister, Marilyn Jean Briney of Naples, Fla. She was preceded in death by her father; and one son, Michael (surviving wife, Linda Seward of San Diego).
Mrs. Seward was a homemaker and enjoyed needlework and word puzzles. She was a member of the Wednesday afternoon Ladies Bowling League in Beardstown.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested to Beardstown Little League Association. A graveside memorial service for Joseph "Bill" Seward, 78, of Beardstown, was held at 11 a.m. December 14, 2002, at the Beardstown City Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearer was Roger Dawson.
Services were performed by the Rev. Sam Holmes of Jacksonville.

Lillian Gabehart Sewell -1910-2003 - Ashland
Lillian Gabehart Sewell, 92, of Virginia, and formerly of Ashland, died Monday evening, April 28, 2003 at Passavant Area Hospital in
Jacksonville.
She was born August 13, 1910 in Elkhorn, Ky.; the daughter of Ed and Maggie Beatty Smith. She married Lester Gabehart and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1953. She later married Edward Sewell and he preceded her in death in 2001.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Gary (wife, Diane) Gabehart of Ashland and Marsha (husband, Leonard) Dollarhide of Huntsville, Ala.; five great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one brother, Roger (wife, Mary) Smith of Tovey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Gabehart (surviving wife, Merle of Petersburg) in 1995; and four sisters, Lavern Petty, Christine Gunderson, Arlene Smith, and Sylvan Roy.
Mrs. Sewell assisted in the family farming operation and was employed several years in the license division for the Illinois Secretary of State. She was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Ashland United Methodist Church, with burial in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. Wilma L. Shalter, 1923-2007, Beardstown
Wilma L. Shalter, 84, of Beardstown, died Sunday morning, Oct. 7, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Maryville, the daughter of Benjamin and Edna Rembka Kettle. She married Edgar J. Shalter, and he preceded her in death Sept. 27, 1998.
She is survived by four nephews, Jerry Lee Grubb of Springfield, Mo., and Benny, Kenny and Lenny Lutz, all of California; three nieces, Bonnie Jean Zink of Santa Claus, Ind., Spring Wild of Walker, La., and Carolyn McDonald of Caseyville; one great-niece; one great-great-nephew; one cousin; and friend and caregiver, Betty Rice of Beardstown. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Grubb and Dolores Lutz; and one brother, Jack Kettle.
Mrs. Shalter was a member of the Collinsville Lutheran Church, where she was baptized. Her life was dedicated to serving and taking care of others.

Edna Mae Shaner, 95, of Virginia, IL died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
She was born June 27, 1913 in Lee's Summit, MO; the daughter of Lee Roy and Emma Elizabeth Smalley Edwards. She married John H. Shaner on August 29, 1936 in Virginia, IL and he preceded in death on August 25, 2000.
She is survived by two sons, John R. Shaner of Danville and Larry Shaner (wife, Nanette) of rural Virginia; three grandsons, William Shaner (wife, Kristen) of Morton, Mark Shaner (wife, Jennifer) of Joplin, MO, and Shawn Shaner of Chandlerville; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Harvey (husband, Robert) of Valparaiso, IN. She was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Ellen Shaner and two brothers, Vernon and Lee Edwards.
Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Dorothy Shaw - 1914-2003 - Beardstown
Dorothy Shaw, 88, of Beardstown, died early Tuesday morning, April 8, 2003, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born July 30, 1914. She married John William Dierker March 15, 1938, in Palmyra, Mo., and he preceded her in death April 4, 1955. She later married Willis G. Shaw Jan. 28, 1961, in Astoria, and he preceded her in death July 4, 2001.
She is survived by one step-son, Robert William (wife, Bonnie) Shaw of Davenport, Iowa; and one step-daughter, Shirley (husband, Duane) Richards of Browning. She was preceded in death by one brother.
Mrs. Shaw was a homemaker. She attended Evangelical United Brethren Church in Astoria.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Evergreen Place in Beardstown.

James Richard Shawver, 69, of Virginia, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at his residence.
He was born April 8, 1934, in Albany, Mo., the son of Stanley Edgar and Margaret Zernow Shawver.
He is survived by one sister, Betty Lee (husband, Shaw) Stevenson of Blue Belle, Penn.; one aunt; and several cousins.
Mr. Shawver was a graduate of Petersburg Harris High School and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later served in the Army Reserves. He was employed several years at Buckley's Greenhouse in Springfield and personally held a plant patent for a new species of fuschia.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Evelyn L. Sherren, 72, of Virginia, IL died Monday, June 15, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
She was born April 18, 1937 in Cass County; the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy Frank Marr. She married Albert L. Sherren in 1953 in Springfield and he survives.
She is also survived by four children, Raymond Sherren and Rodney Sherren, both of Havana, Roberta Glennon (husband, Bill) of Fayetteville, NC, and Roger Sherren of Pekin; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Marr (wife, Lynette) of Illinois City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Rhonda Collins.

Thomas Lee Shive - 1941-2002
Thomas Lee Shive, 61, of Beardstown, died early Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2002, at his residence.
He was born May 8, 1941, in rural Pike County, the son of Robert Ashby and Mary M. Nichelson Shive. He married Linda Sue Keith Dec. 18, 1960, in Winchester, and she survives in Beardstown.
He is also survived by two sons, Don, (wife, Shelley) of Ashland and Paul (wife, Angie) of Owasso, Okla.; one daughter, Ruth (husband, Bruce) Fischer of Beardstown; six grandchildren; four brothers, Dick (wife, Ethel) of Winchester, Jack (wife, Janice) of Galesburg, Joe (wife, Mary Mae) of White Hall, and John (wife, Shirley) of Virginia; seven sisters, Vera Havens of Alsey, Mary Francis Giger, Mable (husband, Arthur) Chapman, Betty (husband, Cliff) Wilder, and Norma (husband, A.C.) Reel, all of Pittsfield, Alice (husband, Duane (Guth) of Gridley, and Jane (husband, Bud) Nevius of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bill (surviving wife, Betty of Pittsfield).
Mr. Shive attended school in Scott County. He retired as a truck driver after 32 years of service with Bluff Springs Elevator and then later was employed for two years with Cass County Service Co. As a member of the Schuyler County Coon Hunters Association, he enjoyed hunting. He especially adored his family and his grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Beardstown City Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with the family meeting friends from 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Emmett Junior Shoemaker - 1924-2002
Emmett Junior Shoemaker, 78, of Beardstown, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 26, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Clarence, Mo.; the son of William I. and Marie Botkins Shoemaker. He married Emeliene Anderson March 13, 1945 in Paris, Mo., and she preceded him in death in August of 1995.
He is survived by three sons, LeRoy M. of Salinas, Calif., William F. (wife, Julie) of Kansas City, Mo.; and James R. of Riverside, Mo., four daughters, Helen M. Godert, Emmy Schluter and Ann Dusenbery, all of Beardstown, and Robin J. (husband, Dan) Starnes of Smithville, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert of Monroe City, Mo.; and one sister, Dorothy Ball of St. Peters, Mo.
Mr. Shoemaker served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945 in the Atlantic Theatre and participated in the invasion at Normandy, France. He worked for the C.B. and Q. Railroad, Burlington Northern-Santa Fee Railroad, retiring in 1991 after serving the railroads for over 41 years. He loved fishing, his family and playing canasta.
Memorial services for the cremated remains will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown. Memorials are suggested for the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
SHORES, Janet Virginia - newspaper unknown - Janet Virginia Shores, 79, of Springfield, formerly of Chandlerville, passed peacefully at 3:05 am Feb. 26, 2007 at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born Aug. 11, 1927 in Chandlerville the daughter of Lewis and Mabel Farris Carlock. She married Audrey Blane Shores in 1947 and her preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1968.
Mrs. Shores was a retired accountant for the State of Illinois, Department of Insurance. A graduate of Chandlerville High School, she was a member of the Chandlerville Christian Church, and avid dancer and an avid Illini basketball fan.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Janeen Turvey of St. Louis, MO; one son, Mike Shores of Springfield, IL, five grandchildren; Monica Ruppman, Roy Ruppman, Millissa Ruppman, Lauren Shores and Sali Penick, and three great grandchildren; Elliott Todd Penick, Phillipe Roy, and Jordanne Dominique Roy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 5, 2007 at the Chandlerville Christian Church conducted by Rev. Jim Waterman. Burial will be in the Chandlerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 pm Sunday at the Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chandlerville Christian Church. Velma Lucille Shores, 1932-2007, Beardstown
Velma Lucille Shores, 74, of Beardstown, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2007, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Meredosia, the daughter of Phillip and Nellie Hall Andrews. She married Merle Eugene Shores on June 15, 1962, in Beardstown, and he survives.
She is also survived by seven children, Linda (husband, John) Wubker of Lindenhurst, Linda Savage, Rick Shores and Tari Logsdon, all of Beardstown, Randy Shores of Rushville, Don (wife, Karen) Menge of Goodyear, Ariz., and Billy Shores of Miami; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Andrews; and one sister, Elsie Young.
Mrs. Shores attended school in Naples and Beardstown. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beardstown. She was employed for a number of years as receptionist for Dr. Charles Hagener in Beardstown, then as a blood analyst for the State of Illinois, and later as a nurse's assistant for the State of Illinois for Cass County Health Department. She enjoyed socializing, visiting and caring for elderly people, shopping, and bowling.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown, with burial at Beardstown City Cemetery. Betty Siltman, 1928-2008, Chandlerville
Betty Siltman, 79, of Chandlerville, passed away at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville on Monday morning, May 19, 2008.
She was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Virginia, to Loren and Lucy (Collins) Arthalony. She married Warren Siltman in Chandlerville on Dec. 10, 1946. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1969.
Mrs. Siltman is survived by one daughter, Patricia Blair of Chandlerville; three grandchildren, Gretchen (Todd) Hodgson of Kilbourne, Marinda (David) Behrends of Chandlerville and Brandon Blair of Petersburg. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Cole and Hannah Hodgson of Kilbourne and Tate and Toby Behrends of Chandlerville. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Siltman; three brothers; one sister; her parents; and husband.
Mrs. Siltman was a graduate of Chandlerville High School and later worked for the Illinois Secretary of State office as a clerk.

Virginia - Wilson "Ped" Siltman, 79, of Virginia died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center.
Survivors: a son, Jim Siltman of Springfield; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Ivan Siltman of Hobart, Tazmania; two sisters, Ernestine Siltman and Illa Lee Helensmith, both of Matanza Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
