WALSH, Kate - The Chandlerville TImes, Chandlerville, Illinois, March 6, 1903, previously printed in the Virginia, Gazette, Virginia, Illinois, reprinted in The Cass County Historian, September 1998
Mrs. Kate Walsh died at the City Hotel, Saturday, March 7. It is said she pined and worried herself to death because her money had been found and the amount, nearly $3,000 put to her credit in the bank and the old traps she called her property sold. She continued to fret, worry and complain from the day she was found almost dead and was taken by authorities to the city, given plenty to eat and a clean comfortable place to rest and sleep. Her condition was not considered serious until Saturday, March 7, when a physician was called, who left medicine for her which she refused to take, saying they were trying to poison her to get her money. It is supposed she died from despondency.
She is supposed to have one son living but whether he is living or dead is not known. He is a son by her first marriage and his name to Jack TOBIN. She is not known to have any other heirs.
The funeral occurred from the Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon and interred at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
WALSH, Mrs. Kate - The Virginia Gazette, March 13, 1903
Mrs. Kate Walsh came to America from Ireland many years ago and settled in Michigan with her first husband Mr. TOBIN. They had two sons. She left her husband and came to Cass Co. with her sons. She married twice more, each time to a WALSH. The first Mr. WALSH is buried in the Old Hall cemetery here. She was separated from the second husband. She took in washings, hoarding her money. She was later supported by the County. She died Saturday after a brief illness. The funeral was Sunday from St. Lukes Church here. No relatives were present for the services but many townspeople attended.
NOTE: See the story of Kate Walsh, which appeared in The Cass County Historian, September 1998, in Miscellaneous Articles and Stories, p. 4
